I’ve had some great adventures in this place. If you go by the river on far side of the perserve you can go on a island on the river and walk acroos at the other side yu come to a log that you walk across until you reah the main land. This place has a good biking and walking trail, but if you like to wonder off trail like me you will have a awesome adventure. This place has a lot of different environments in a small area. There is grasslands, lakes, rivers, marshes, and forests. One time me nd my friend went on a adventure and found a lake bigger than the west branch lake across the river. Another experience I had was walking through a channel of meandering streams until we got to a hobo camp. there were beer bottles, shovels, and a huge dug hole that was like 5 feet deep. Each time I come here I find something new.

A fairly decent forest preserve at the north edge of West Chicago and the west edge of Carol Stream. It features a walking trail around Deep Quarry Lake and along the side of Bass Lake. The western half of the trail is wooded and the eastern half is prairie. There is plenty of parking at the entrance on Army Trail Road and Gerber Road and a bathroom facility between the lot and the lake. The formal trail(the prairie side) runs to the east side of Deep Quarry Lake and eventually meets up with Fair Oaks Road and W. Lies Road. It is part of the Poplar Creek Trail System. That part of the unpaved trail is accessible to bikes, joggers and pedestrians. There is a small parking lot off of Fair Oaks Road. The west side of the trail is more of a walking trail and runs between the two lakes. Once past Bass Lake, the trail becomes more of a narrow foot path that leads around the south side of Deep Quarry Lake. It’s a pretty easy hike and attracts a spectrum of people and families. I couldn’t believe the size of the fish I saw that one man had pulled out of Bass Lake. ITWASTHIS — — - — - — - — - BIG! As with any place open to the public, there was a bit of trash here and there along the trail and near the water’s edge, mainly on the wooded side. But, like it or not, we’ve all seen it before. Luckily, it wasn’t as bad as some places I’ve seen. I’ve been to this forest preserve in all four seasons, mainly to watch the sunset over the lake. I can’t say I’ve been disappointed yet.
