I have grown up with Cousins Subs. I can remember going for subs on Sundays, or picking up subs and taking them to the lakefront for the fireworks in July. Whenever we were getting subs, it was always Cousins. I have to say, however, over the years I have begun to dislike Cousins more and more. It’s not the same. From them getting rid of my all time favorite sub, the gyro sub, to my terrible experience at the 76th and Layton Ave location(see my review). Cousins has all but lost me. Now at my most recent visit at the State Street location, I was met with awful customer service. You would think that the person running the register and taking orders would be someone with personality and people skills. This was not the case. The girl working the register would have been better suited for somewhere behind the scenes away from face-to-face interaction. I also tried the limited time only Wisconsin steak and brat sub. I had higher hopes for it. My thinking is the sloppiness of the construction of this sandwich is what did it in. I’m really confuses as to why Cousins hasn’t evolved with the times and done a little remodeling so they can make your sandwich in front of you like so many other places do. It would definitely take away the laziness. I give Cousins 2 stars instead of 1 for the simple fact that I do still enjoy the seafood sub which was always my number 2 favorite next to the gyro sub — R.I.P.

Kind and thorough service, generous portions, and really personable employees. First visit, and it won’t be my last. The Italian on whole grain was beautifully presented, and their cheese curds are airy and fresh. A little ketchup pairs wonderfully with their mild cheese. A young black male employee particularly impressed me. I was greeted, treated, and receipted… my food came quickly and he made change which I needed, gave me extra ketchup and a beaming smile. We chatted before I left. They are good people here, but this young man was outstanding.

Come on man! Cousins is hands down the best sub shop in town, if not the country. Subway shmubway. Jimmy John’s is allowed to hold a candle to Cousins, but can’t compete with the bread or hot subs. Miami subs? Please! The trick is to find a location with an actual grill, and not this microwave nonsense. This location had a friendly staff, real grill, and decent parking lot. Easy to get to. The cheese steak though! Forget the Philly. Go original or Italian(which used to be the Philly). Enjoy!

Cousins Subs is a fast, nearby(for us) and sure fire way to cure our once-in-a while sub sandwich jones. Their basic sandwiches are AOK, but nothing to wow about. They have several choices of rolls, but the Italian is their default and it isn’t bad. Unfortunately, Cousins will never be as good as Potbelly, our sub sandwich shop of choice and the place we’ll drive to if we have the time.

Staff is friendly. Usually a good product, today’s bread(Parmesan asiago) tasted under baked and chewy. Tomatoes were super small(quarter size) on same turkey sub. I frequently visit this location and the dining area is usually dirty.

This is Cousins. There is not much to say about this place. It is just a standard chain restaurant with simple food. The employees are friendly. The food is decent. I have never had a problem with my order.
