We went here with our Honduran daughter and she said it was very close to home. I thought that the Baleadas were particularly good, and if I go again will just order two or three of those, one with eggs. Service is great and the dining area is now expanded.

My husband is Honduran and I’ve spent a good amount of time in Honduras myself, so we’re very familiar with the flavors of comida Catracha(Honduran food). :) This is our favorite Honduran restaurant in N. Illinois. We’ve tried others, like Super Pollo, but just didn’t find the food to be quality and authentic like here at Antojitos Hondurenos. There were many more reviews for this restaurant here on Unilocal, but that page seems to be gone now since they closed the old location earlier this year and are now in the building where the Latino grocery store Mas x Menos is. I’m so excited to learn that its back open. Their food is inexpensively priced and very authentic. You can hear them hand making the tortillas and pupusas in the kitchen while you wait. Portion sizes are good and fill you up. Their baleadas(flour tortillas with refried beans, queso, crema and your choice of eggs or meat) are served hot and fresh… so good! The carne asada is done Honduran style(other than that you can actually cut the meat here, unlike in Honduras! A plus in my book!!!) and served with refried beans, fried green banana slices(not plantains), chimol(similar to pico de gallo) and a shredded cabbage salad. Their Sopa Marinera(seafood soup with coconut milk base) is a deal and is so delicious! They have American and Honduran pop, which my husband was SO happy to find(give the banana flavor a try! It reminds me a little of a really sweet cream soda.). The Honduran style horchata(rice water) is very good… has a more nutty flavor than the standard Mexican horchata. Well worth the trip!
