Papa Marcos Grill And Kabob

Wandering around Waukegan before a show, we were jonesing for something that wasn’t bar food. Thank god for Papa Marcos and the best shawerma I’ve had in years. Fresh, tasty, exciting … throw any adjective you want at the meal, whatever the case: It was just what we wanted. What’s more, the friendly atmosphere and fun sweets added so much to the night! I never thought I’d say it but, «I gotta get to Waukegan more often.»

While the food here is great the service, owner and prices are even better!
Unbelievable service: We are warmly greeted every time we enter here. Hopefully there isn’t wait and we get seated right away. The food delivered to our table quickly, hot and fresh. There are often little extras provided free of charge — a sample of grape leaves or a plate of baklava.
Owner: Love Michel. He served in the US military for many years and is now doing this. Quite successfully. From Lebanon he fought in the Christian militia in the seventies. He is fluent in French and Arabic and work as a translator for the US. Those are the same two languages that our daughter is fluent in so we were happy to introduce her to Michel recently.
Prices: You can’t beat the value here. Big plates of hummus and baba ghanoush. Love the plates of Shawarma (you can get a combo of meat) served over rice. I can never get enough of the tahini sauce and hot sauce. We also love the vegetarian platter.

This place has some very good food and some of the finest hospitality you could ever expect. A really great experience.

I went on a Saturday with my wife to try this place out since it was the #1 place to eat in Lake County according to Unilocal.This was one of the best choices I’ve made in a long time.
The owner, Mike was incredibly nice and for appetizers those grape leaves were so DELICIOUS!!! Just like my mom used to cook SARMALE DE POST when I was younger. For the main course, my wife had beef and chicken kabob combo while I had beef and chicken shawerma combo. The kabob was thicker and juicier and the shawerma was just the perfect bite size.
If you like BAKLAVA, this a good place to get your hands on some top notch desert along with their traditional black tea.

Originally came to this place because of the impossibly high Unilocal rating for this joint. I figured that, if it was true, then eating at this restaurant would be like riding a black unicorn into a neverending rainbow of happiness and love.

Good LORD! The whole experience still makes me smile, a week later!
The food was tremendous. It was so fresh and well made, every bite — from appetizer to dessert — was a joy. (I’ve had more than my share of baclava, and even including the stuff I’ve had in the Middle East, the dish they serve at Papa Marcos is the best I’ve had.)
The restaurant itself is thoughtfully decorated. Really, you could see that a lot of care and detail went into every nook and cranny. Walking in, it felt just like walking through the door when your significant other deep-​cleans their place just because they’re so excited you’re coming over… TRUE STORY!
Finally, the owner himself is the embodiment of hospitality. You feel like you’ve known each other your whole lives — and that it’s your most cherished relationship to boot.

I’ll give a restaurant a try three times, even if I dislike it. Well the first time I came here I got the chicken salad, it was so good, all the ingredients were fresh! I love the taste of fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese, etc. The second time I ordered the same chicken salad with extra ranch dressing. This time my chicken was rubbery! With my third appearance I again ordered that same salad… the chicken had an off putting taste, & not only off putting, but hard! I’ll only go back here again if someone I know enjoys their food & wants to eat here. I will add that they give you a free drink while you wait for your order.
