I bought a vehicle down the street and was told by the sales guy this place had the best meatball subs around. So we stopped in on the way home and he wasn’t lying. Their meatball subs are great. While we sat there was watched the guys in the open kitchen making pizzas and calzones. Their calzones are no joke. If you want to feed an army, get one of those things. It was like half a basketball.

8:58 on a Saturday night My family and I were turned away at the door and told they were closed. Can’t believe a restaurant like this would close that early and also be that inflexible. We won’t go back, there’s too many other Italian restaurants in the area.

I’ve always enjoyed Mario’s for occasional take out/pizza until recently. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Not only did the salad come to almost $ 13 with tax but the chicken tasted like rubber. To the point where it was inedible. I was extremely disappointed in my over priced salad and would reconsider ordering next time.

We went ona Friday evening during the rush, not sure what to expect. I ordered a small, thin crust pepperoni pizza and my husband ordered the steak sandwich. Our service was good, but the place is a bit noisy. The pizza was really good, nice flavor to the pizza, crust was baked nicely done without being over done. My husband said his sandwich was good and definitely order it again. We will definitely go back!

So far, I’ve ordered pizza twice. Great crust, great flavor, and heavy on the toppings. Very efficient service. Delivery is limited to $ 35 and higher orders, which is about $ 4 more than their large with 3 toppings and a 2 liter soda is going to cost. So, if you’re not feeding a family of 5, expect to pick it up.

What a treat that Mario’s delivers(for a $ 3 fee and on orders over $ 35)… I was a bit shocked at the price of our take out($ 57 for a large honey bbq chicken pizza, small cheese, 5 wings and a lasagna dinner)… And there a small snafu with the pizzas not arriving with the original order… HOWEVER– Mario’s provided a complimentary small cheese pizza to make up for it– and EVERYTHING just tasted awesome! All the food was piping hot despite the confusion(things happen– I get it!). The ONLY reason I’m giving 4 stars and not 5 is the price of the lasagna dinner. In my opinion it is a bit too expensive– but, again, it really tasted terrific!!! And Mario’s pizza is just the best!!! We will definitely order again! Another reason I don’t mind living in Waterbury! We have a great neighborhood and can get tremendous take-out delivered to our door!!! Thanks Mario’s!!!

They don’t even know the meaning of Italian pizza. We were served a concussion of crust, tomato sauce, cheese, topped with thin sliced fresh(the salad type) tomatoes making the«pizza» soggy and acidly. I asked the waitress if the«chef» was Italian and she replied«yes». I still don’t believe it! However I must say that she gave us superb service and was very accommodating. That’s why I’m giving two stars instead of one.

This is arguably the best pizza in Waterbury. I come in here for slices every so often and I’ve never been disappointed. The slices are huge, the toppings they put on them are big pieces, and you taste the difference in the stuff they use. You pay a couple bucks more for a pie here, but the result is awesome.

Went there with a group of 8 on Saturday evening. The service was a little slow since the place was not packed. That said, I can tolerate a little slow service — but when your beer glass is almost empty, the waitron should ask if you’d like a refill. OK, OK. The pizza looked good — most of us didn’t order pizza except for one uneducated dolt who ordered bacon on his — but he lives in Appalachia so we cut him some slack. The dishes were impressive — large portions(tomorrows lunch) — but were made well! I had the Eggplant Parmigiana over linguine — very nice & delicate. My only gripe is that the parm should have had a little more sauce over it. The linguine was perfect — the sauce was incorporated into the pasta as it should be. The other pasta dishes presented were equally well done. Nothing swimming in grease or a pool of tomato sauce. The linguine with clams(white) looked ravishing. As I said, I gotta try the pizza. Yes, it is NOT New Haven style, nor is is New York style, and thankfully it is not Chicago or California style. A little thicker crust it has, but it looked well made — at least the tomatoes on top with the mozzarella got my interest. To cap, outside of the somewhat slow service, and tacking on an 18% tip for our party of 8(we normally tip higher if pleased — their loss), the food was quite satisfying. Décor was unobtrusive and thankfully, the TV’s over the counter area were not blaring or interfering with eating and normal voice conversation. I hate when you can’t hold a conversation over the music/TV, but this joint is OK in that regard.

Solid choice for Pizza in the area, have never been disappointed with pizza/grinder take out orders. Good crust options, speciality pies are solid. Dining in service has been touch and go over the past 7 or 8 visits. Food is always on point, but depending on your server you might find yourself feeling… abandoned. If you do eat in, the blackened prime rib sandwich is a must have… it will change your life; intestinaly and spiritually.

Mario’s is a safe bet for pizza in the area. The crust is thick, so we usually order thin crust but it’s not too thin. The calzone are good but small compared to other pizza restaurants. Be careful when ordering them, if you’re a vegetarian make sure you tell them. The sauce that came with a calzone I ordered had a huge piece if meatball in the cup. It was hard to miss. Most of the specialty pizzas are ok. The other meals are average like the fish and chips. The one meal that stood out, was for my wife. It was the linguine with clams. The big let down is they don’t deliver.

I stopped here for a slice of Pizza for a quick lunch. I ordered the Buffalo chicken on the recommendation of my co worker. The slice was enormous. It was approximately the size of two or 3 regular size slices. It was piled high with chicken, hot sauce and cheese. It also came with a side of blue cheese or ranch. I was not expecting a slice of pizza this big and it was almost over-whelming. I ate the whole thing much to my stomach’s dismay but was satisfied with the flavor as well as the value. It was three dollars and change for this massive slice which was enough for me for lunch. A person with a normal appetite might get two servings out of the slice. This should serve as a warning however, if you are looking for traditional Connecticut thin crust pizza then skip this place. This is very thick, heavy, greasy pizza with loads of toppings and cheese. They offer some interesting varieties other then the traditional toppings. I would recommend Mario’s to someone looking for a quick, inexpensive lunch that is both filling and tasty. Good for Kids, Accepts Credit Cards and is right on the Main road.

I have been eating here for about 5 years and have never been disappointed. I have tried their Gluten free pizza and was not impressed(compared to their regular pizza), but was not turned off either(many gf pizzas I have tried were terrible, this was not). So celiacs, come in and give it a try. Now for their regular pizza. I love it. It is a bit greasy and can range from a little thin to thick depending on the visit(maybe each cook is different), but the taste never changes. I have bought by the slice and full pies and it is always delicious. The drinks can be purchased in the fridge up front or at the fountain, so those who dislike ice and cups, this is a nice attraction. There is an outdoor patio, but from what I recall, the waitresses/waiters do not go outside(I can edit this review when I gain exact knowledge), either way if you order something to go you can eat it outside for sure. There are Televisions and a bar area so sports and news fans can enjoy their food at happy hour or weekend visits. There is plenty of seating and a whole plaza of parking. I am never disappointed and recommend Mario’s to anyone who lives in the area or is just passing by. It is a great place to visit while attending porter and chester, visiting before a game at the Municipal Stadium, or stopping in for a quick bite after picking your kids up from Kaynor.

Yikes what happened to the old chef/cook !!! Nothing taste the same any more. I will have to find a new place to eat because the menu may read the same but the service and flavor stinks !!!

They are good, but if they try harder they could be way better. They need to work on their presentation and lighting of the places.

«Meh» would probably be the most accurate description of this place. I’ve only ever had pizza & salad, but nothing is particularly good, and it’s overpriced. Service is hit or miss. There’s a lot better pizza places in the area.

Had the bacon cheeseburger pizza. It was very good. A friend had the Mussels and loved them. Another friend had the ceaser salad and crab cakes and found them to be decent. A fourth friend had the Sofrito and thought it was not so good. She didn’t finish it. From the outside this place doesn’t look like anything. Once you go inside it’s a heck of a transformation. It is roomy and clean and has a large bar/counter and another smaller bar. There are booths all around the sides and small tables in the center. Our waitress was very nice and took excellent care of us. The food came out quickly and there were a steady stream of customers for both the takeout and eat in restaurant. I’ll definitely be back.

I have mixed feelings about Marios. On the one hand I like their pizza. While it’s not the best I’ve had it’s certainly not the worst. I also like their pasta fagioli. So why the 2 stars? Like other reviewers stated the service is bad and I myself had a bad experience there. One day, I ordered a steak sandwich off the menu I was given. When the bill came it was .50 cents more. Not a huge deal but more than the menu stated none the less. So, I brought it up to the waitress. The waitress proceeded to go to the owner, spoke with her, and then came back to me. She told me that she had given me the wrong menu and that the owner said she would not deduct the .50 cents from my bill. So, if you are given a menu, with prices, to order from those prices are subject to change at any time I guess. It’s .50 cents! And it’s your fault! How could a bus
