The Country Cafe

Unsanitary and racist — my two least favorite things.
I (a black woman) walked in with my (white) boyfriend on a slow Saturday morning, thinking we found a spot for good, home-​style food.
We were greeted with open hostility and the waitress almost refused to serve us. After ordering sandwiches, the waitress, cook and owner glared at us until we collected our food and paid.
To top if off the food was awful and I found a hair in my sub. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

Wow. This place is pretty awful. Between the dirty tables, counters, bathrooms, and floors, as well as the lackluster service, why would you eat here.
We stayed nearby at the White Moose and needed some greasy food to sop up my hangover and was referred here. Breakfast menu is out of My Cousin Vinny, with just a few options. Who cares. They’re all below average.
My ribeye steak and eggs was nothing great. Decent enough for a hangover breakfast and no, I wasn’t expecting Capital Grille quality beef. Homefries had to be doused in salt and hot sauce to become good. Skip the eggs, they suck. Even if we overlooked the hair in the omelet (which was prepared the same was as my scramble), it was still awful.
Would I come back here again? Nope. But would I recommend it to someone needing a hangover breakfast? Only if you can’t drive elsewhere.
Maybe they’re better for lunch but breakfast was no good. Also the coffee here tastes like it had been in a house fire.

Stopped in for a late lunch today. People seem to drift in and out all afternoon. The place definitely needs a fresh look. Furniture is from the 60s, as is the grungy dirt brown carpet.
Service was lackluster.
Food was mixed. Husband got the tuna sub with potato chips and it was fine. Mine was the shrimp platter which consisted of a couple dozen tiny little shrimp encased in so much batter they looked like XL shrimp. Inedible! Obviously, fresh out of the freezer into the fryer. The two sides I ordered were fine: cole slaw and potato salad.
The prices are really cheap… but you get what you pay for!

Nice country town setting. Fine staff. Fine food. Include it for lunch on a cruise down the road. Casual and relaxed on New Years Day. Lunch Special was a Prime Rib sandwich cold slaw and fries… all very good. Good fries. I will stop by again when gettin’ away.

best place ever!!! great burgers and shakes. the service is great and the fries are the best in the world.
P. S. IF YOU GET FRENCH FRIES ASK FOR HONEY MUSTARD SAUCE.

I cannot recall a time when I have had poorer service. I joined friends (late) for a snack during my lunch hour. They had already been served when I ordered, which I didn’t feel should have been a problem. I only ordered fries and a coffee. While my fries came expediently, as one would expect, my coffee never, ever came. I asked the waitress three separate times for my coffee, each time I was promised that it was coming. My party then just began glaring at her, in hopes that I wouldn’t have to humiliate myself by asking a fourth time — she obviously was not good at taking hints. When we were ready to check out, she did not bring our checks, so we had to approach the counter and wait quite a while to be rung up. Before she rang me up, I asked to not be charged for the coffee, as I never received it. She blurted out, «I KNOW!» and seemed really annoyed that I even brought it up. No apology was offered up. I understand that she was busy, but her rudeness was really unforgivable. The restaurant was full, bearing in mind that there couldn’t be more than twelve tables, which a waitress at a larger restaurant would be expected to manage on her own. This is one of the few times in my life that I didn’t leave a tip. I will never return.

I am a local and have been to The Country Café 30 or more times. The food is good, the soups are really good. Fresh desserts and Ice cream. Their homemade sausage gravy sells out every Wednesday morning. The staff is really nice, and I have been to about 3 events that they catered, and they were fantastic.

Great little country restaurant. I’ve only been here once myself, but my husband frequents here. The staff is very friendly & the food is great. It’s quaint & they have a lot of regulars. I look forward to going back!

Awesome place for breakfast. Been there twice on the way back from hiking in Shenandoah. Small-​town feel and great food!

After seeing the reviews for this place — my plan today was to eat lunch here — but my schedule got thrown all a kilter and when I arrived — I was nowhere near hungry.
So I went in to get a cup of coffee to go. The place is very quaint, very country — with tons of Christmas decorations. I wish I had taken some photos of the interior of the place — but with it being a small place, folks eating lunch, and me coming in for coffee — I thought it would seem a bit weird to take my camera out and start taking photos!
Got my coffee to go — was good! Can’t wait to come back here to try the Peanut butter pie!

Great place. Get out of DC and NoVa burbs and eat some country food with nice people. Great burger and the strawberry cake is to die for. Everything is made to order and fresh. Desert is homemade, can’t beat that.

Excellent country fair — including chicken fritters (which are extra crispy chicken fingers), green beans, and fresh desserts, like pecan and peanut butter pie — served by real people in a down-​home environment. It has to compete with one of the best restaurants with America, which is right across the street and does a respectable job. I wish I didn’t see the big jugs of condiments in the kitchen. I left a little TOO full too, which was my fault.
