There last night. Super slow service, no wine glasses, no TP in the bathrooms. Someone in the party asked why this place was chosen since they are closing. The terrible waiter verified that Saturday is their last night open… it’s like being on the Titantic and knowing what happens next … Goodbye Sips… we’ll see what’s next

The charcuterie platter was outstanding with tasty assortment of cheeses and meats, along with delicious deviled eggs. And the chef made an amazing braised pork belly that was so tasty and tender. We plan to go back many times to try the wide variety of things offered on the menu.

Terrible… From the food to the service to the cleanliness… We’ve tried it 3 times… NEVERAGAIN!!! After we were done with our awful meals… We see our water glasses have double coats of lipstick on them and a dead bee head floating in the bottom… Took the glasses to the bartender and he must have realized we were going to complain and he ignored us and turned on us and went and talked to people who were already waited on… That ticked me off even more then the dead bees head!!! It sickened my stomach realizing how dirty it was and I think you should think again before eating there!

Food was great! I ordered calamari and maple mustard rosemary pork tenderloins. it was superb! The portion is huge compared to other restaurants with the same price range. Uhm, servers were okay, didn’t have much energy. Ambiance is nice, it’s an open concept restaurant on the second floor, very cool. Definitely coming back!

I had heard that Sips was doing fantastic work recently. While in the area I had a chance to try it out. I was blown away with the knowledge of the staff and the selection they had! Was in the mood for a dark beer, and the server suggested the weinsphaner dunkel… wow! Clean with a full body… perfect match for the CEO chicken sandwich that it washed down. Great staff, bar, and service! My buddy had a vanilla infusion and the best sea bass he has ever had! I now have a new place to go for the good stuff!!! Upon the return visit, all has changed… with no positive comments. The open windows allow hornets to attack. The servers are clueless, bartender a self-absorbed putz, and, as a restaurant, you are expected to serve food. After 30 minutes of waiting in a empty dining room for my meal… I left hungry! I did enjoy the owner at one table, two sheets to the wind… as some sort of entertainment. Avoid this place, for hell or high water!

Twice now we’ve ventured to Sips and we’ll be sure to return. I’ve been nothing but impressed and satisfied with their food. The salmon deviled eggs were great. Nice and salty bite to the smoked salmon paired with luscious, whipped egg yolk. For the entrée, I had to go with the summer lamb rack, medium-rare. The subtle touch of mint was a difference maker. Great dish, decent portion size but if you have a big appetite you may want to go with another option. My only regret was not doing dessert this time around. I won’t let it happen again.

I got the tomahawk. Loved it. Sat on the Van Dyke side with the window open. Too loud for me and my wife. I’ll go back.

This place was a solid(4) with great appetizers, entrees and drinks prior to our last visit. Now it’s a(2). The best appetizer on the menu, pulled pork tacos are gone. The best entrée on the menu, The 48hr chicken is a completely different dish. The recommended Ahi tuna steak was an instant regret as soon as I took my 1st bite. Overall, it’s not the same here. Without Chef Hightower here, I don’t expect it to ever be. Positive notes, the beer selection is still solid. Go for the drinks but eat(anywhere) else. Trust me!

This review mainly pertains to private parties at Sips Gastropub. My Aunt booked the private room at Sips to host a Bridal Shower for me. I recommended it to her after my fiancé and I had a drink there a few months ago. They have a room in the back with a private bar and tables — perfect for a Bridal Shower! My Aunt had great things to say about Bill, the event planner at Sips. Apparently, he was very helpful leading up to the event. The event was Saturday night from 6 – 8 then we told all the girls to invite the guys from 8pm on because they have a great open-air bar and their website said that a DJ started at 10pm. My Aunt and cousins got to Sips early to set up and decorate the room. The room was unbearably hot… so uncomfortable. They asked the servers to turn up the air conditioning — they said they did but it was stagnant and HOT — probably 90 degrees, not kidding. The 2 servers were not any help when it came to possible solutions. They didn’t offer us another spot in the restaurant, they didn’t offer fans(but did bring a couple in after my Aunt asked for them) — they simply made comments like«it’s always really hot in here», etc. My thought is, ‘then you should DOSOMETHING about it’ — or don’t have events in there! Everyone was uncomfortable during the event. We were all dripping… so gross. I don’t understand why they use this room in the summer if there is no A/C and continually have complaints — even from their employees! There were 2 servers assigned to our party and we had about 25 attendees. My Aunt had to micromanage them the entire time. They didn’t offer drinks upon arrival, didn’t tell us what the food options were, didn’t give us a wine list, didn’t clear plates, didn’t offer to refill drinks, etc., UNTIL my Aunt asked them to… it was like pulling teeth. Here is what really motivated me to write this review: My friends from out of state had called the restaurant prior to the event and bought a very nice bottle of wine for me. They requested that the servers present the bottle to me as a surprise… THEYNEVERPRESENTEDITTOME! I didn’t even know they sent anything until my friend, Caitlin, asked me if I liked their surprise after the event. I couldn’t believe that they couldn’t even follow through with that simple request — which resulted in a hefty sale for them. Pretty terrible. Here’s another kicker — around 7:30 I was in the women’s restroom at the sink and the younger of the 2 servers — a man — just walked into the women’s bathroom… no knocking or anything! I said to him«Maybe knock next time» — he chuckled and stayed in there. As I walked out, I said«I’m serious». What a weirdo! The food was sub-par and that’s being gracious. After the party we moved out to the main bar and continued to have some drinks. The bar tender at the main bar was great… good service. There was no DJ — totally fine — but don’t advertise that you are going to have a DJ if you’re not going to have a DJ! So, we put about $ 30 worth of music in the jukebox and had our own dance party. I don’t know what my Aunt paid but I feel like she got ripped off. I also feel that my friends from out of state got ripped off. A lot of people went out of their way to make it a very special event and the only issues were with the room and service at Sips. The service, hot room, and lackluster food gave me and ALL the guests some strong reasons to never return. I would NOT recommend Sips Gastropub for anything other than a quick drink at the main bar. This place has massive potential but they are definitely holding themselves back from success.

Went to Sips last night with my Wife for Dinner for my birthday. The food was definitely good and we will most certainly be back. We did the Beef TarTar for an App. It was really good. It’s hard to find places that want to serve raw beef because a lot of people think it will be gross. The beef was cut into small chunks, very nice since a lot of places will just pulverize the meat into almost a paste. The spices were balanced nicely and the raw egg was also a great add to it. For Dinner, I was going to do their Southern Comfort burger, but after the waitress went to ring it in, they were out of pulled pork, so that was out. Then I attempted to get the Lamb Burger, once again they were out. I questioned how they could already be out of these items on a Friday night at 8 pm, with the place being only ¼ full because the weather was crappy. So I then settled on the fish and chips. Not bad but having my first two choices being 86’d, I was disappointed. The fries that they serve with most things are Ok, good seasoning, but I prefer a larger cut on a fry. I am not personally a fan of the thinner, almost shoestring cut. Their homemade ketchup though was great! Their Beer selection is great. They had a lot of local brews on tap, and even some that I had never seen anywhere else. Their Dessert was good, not fantastic, but good. All in all I gave Sips a 4 star rating. Their space is awesome, their food is good(although to the owners I would suggest working on your food planning a bit since you were out of 2 of your 3 burgers on a slow Friday night). Drinks were definitely good and service was great! We will certainly be coming back.

Staff is very attentive to everything. Food and Kraft Cocktails are amazing! It has many TV’s so it can double as a sports bar. I am watching the Red Wings game now on an 80″ TV with many others on in the entire bar area.

Great beer selection and attentive and friendly service. The food tasted very fresh and the sandwich I had(The CEO) had a very flavorful chicken breast as the main ingredient. The fries are uninspiring, however, which was disappointing as I love a good side of fries. My friend and I shared a starter of the goat cheese and garlic spread appetizer and it was either under seasoned or missing something. Overall, what I tried was decent and I would return to try something else.

My boyfriend and I stopped at Sips last night after eying this place for awhile thanks to Unilocal. We were greeted with a smile by the hostess who sat us at a window table. Tons of sun and no blinds but we enjoyed the view. The chairs were pretty wobbly but I just stuck an envelope under the chair leg and didn’t let it bother me. My boyfriend and I split the pork tacos for an appetizer. They came out fast and fresh! You could literally taste every ingredient. I’m not a big fan of hard tacos but these were fresh and not stale. My boyfriend loved the jalapeños on top and the aioli sauce on the side. For an entrée I had the 48 Hour Chicken. Loved it! The chicken was so flavorful and juicy. Fresh sliced carrots on the side and my favorite part was the garlic whipped potatoes. Not too garlicky but just right! Portion was pretty large as well. My boyfriend opted for the Southern Comfort Burger. Loved it as well! I especially loved the braised pork. Huge burger. The fresh cut fries and homemade ketchup was top notch. Large portion of fries that we both ended up sharing and taking some home too. Service was great. Fast and friendly service. We will be definitely be back(hopefully soon!) Can’t wait to try other menu items. The CEO sandwich sounds great! Wish we tried a dessert this time. Maybe next time! Prices weren’t too bad at all. You get a lot of food for the price you pay. I love that almost all the items and ingredients are fresh and local. All the food is presented really well!

We dined at Sips last night for the first time. It won’t be the last. Walking up the flight of metal steps to enter the pub gave it a unique feeling.(My husband said it was going to be a sobriety test on the way down lol.) Contrary to the reviewer that thought the building was«just meh», I loved the décor and ambiance. The bar itself has exposed brick, dark woods and dim lighting. One wall is almost entirely slide-up doors(picture garage doors) that will undoubtedly be open when the nicer weather arrives. There are plenty of TVs scattered around the room but they were never loud or intrusive. I could occasionally glance up to see the hockey score without having the game blasting in the background. My husband and I started with the goat cheese and roasted garlic dip which is served with toasted baguettes. Honestly, I would have been perfectly happy consuming bowl after bowl of this the entire night. It was sooo good. Next, we ordered the the beef tartare. OMG, this was the best tartare I’ve ever eaten. Even better, I had a little leftover goat cheese dip and spread that on my baguette then layered on the tartare. Mind blown. The cocktails were very good and the bartenders had a generous pour. My husband had one of the drinks made by the younger bartender(or should I say«mixologist»): frothy egg white, vodka, drops of some fancy stuff, lightly grilled pineapple on top. It was fun to watch the drink being made but I’m a simple gal and like to stick with my vodka tonic. Unfortunately, all of the house infused vodkas had recently been made and were not ready for consumption. I can’t wait to try them next time. The staff was friendly and attentive, the chef personally brought out some of the entrees and apps, and the owner, Vlad, stopped by and asked if we had enjoyed ourselves. Yes, Vlad, we certainly did and we will definitely be back.

I’m really torn with this review… SSL(Sorry So Long… but I’m all about the business thriving) I would like to give it only about 2.5 stars… but I gave it 3, because… well… there was good, and there was not so good, and then there was… Wha??? Has anyone ever asked you how you would like your fish cooked? Is this new? When asked this question I was confused. With steak, I get it… people have their preferences… but with fish, I’m not so sure it’s a matter of preference. I told the waitress, that I didn’t know how I wanted it cooked, but that I definitely wanted it cooked, not dry, and not under done(???WTF!!!) I often eat fish when I’m out, because I really don’t know how to cook it that well at home. and I figure at a «Gastropub» the chef is going to be a bit more knowledgeable about this than me, as, I am… not a chef!!! The waitress told me that medium was probably the best bet… WHAAA??? Okay… sure…I hope I don’t get E. coli or anything… baffled…to say the least… So Sea bass and Salmon were ordered…“medium” — roll eyes… The service was pretty good, the manager circled the dining area with a watchful eye… the servers do all their ordering on a mini-tablet…which totally takes away from the personal experience that you would normally get at any other restaurant in my opinion. Our server seemed inexperienced, and impersonal. I say, ditch the mini-tablet ordering thing and get back to chatting it up with the clientele. We asked her about a couple of substitutions and she was slow in looking through the different options available to her via the tablet, as she was unable to find it… definitely a negative… The atmosphere… I had been to the former Santinos a couple of times, and it still had that«sports bar»(minus the bearded hipster bar tenders and bus boys) feel to it… big TV screens with keno going on… it just wasn’t very well integrated. it felt very forced… It looked like some employees had it going on, while others looked frozen in the headlights… They need a MAJOR training session! Another note… it was HOT in here… temperature wise… frick…get that under control… also…I didn’t plan on so many families, with little kids, choosing Sips for a place to go for the night… another Whaaa??? Especially since the prices are pretty steep! All in all… the food wasn’t half bad(hey I was worried about my fish!)…they do have an extensive(EXTENSIVE) drink menu… We had the goat cheese and roasted garlic dip with toasted baguette… which was good. along with our fish dinners(chilean seabass and salmon)…which were very nicely presented and very tasty. We also had a side of the truffle mac and cheese, that wasn’t really a side, but came as a side with the angus filet menu item… it was really good… but then I did some research on truffles and truffle oil, and by the way it’s repeating on me, I’m not so sure it’s a «plus» that I should be mentioning… hahaha…I’m kidding… I’ve never had truffle oil like this and it was seriously intoxicating… I think it’s my new drug! So…some definite pluses, but also some definite minuses… Was it worth the $ 100 spent(for two people) …not really… I think Sips needs to decide what it wants to be when it grows up and it just may be all right! That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it! :-) Go or don’t :-P

My Dad and I decided to check out Sips when I was in town last. Being from Chicago, I’m used to eating amazing food all the time because the crappy restaurants don’t survive. I have to say that Sips is a breath of fresh air in Macomb County. There is no other restaurant in the area that comes close to offering what these guys do. We had the meat and cheese plate, pulled pork sandwich and the feta, olive, and beet dip.(All modified to be gluten free for me) We liked it so much I went back with my Mom a few days later and again had the meat and cheese platter, and pork tacos. Everything was prepared to perfection and our server Kara rocked our socks off. She’s seriously awesome. And to top it off, the owners comped our dessert(which was also fab). Sips has an excellent wine list and tons of craft beers as well. We left with full bellies and it honestly couldn’t have been any better. I will definitely be back.
