We came on a Friday night horrible, it was a horrible horrible server with an attitude. We have always had great experience at this location in the past and we are sad that we had this experience this time.

My wife and I stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon, the place had a cool atmosphere but we got the feeling that the staff was annoyed that we even came in. Their menu doesn’t have much to offer. We got the chips and salsa the salsa was bland and the guacamole was obviously fresh from a bag. The we ordered the Reuben, the bread was so dry and hard and the meat and sour kraut was cold. Thankfully our waitress was nice enough to not charge us for them. It’s just a shame that a place that cool has so little to offer. Who ever is running that place has some serious work to do if it’s going to last.

My husband and I have been going there for a few years. We liked it at first but the last 3 or 4 times we have gone the service is terrible and the staff is incredibly rude. Plus they double debited out of our account. We will not be going back.

This place is unique. I can see where I might be a bit disappointed if I came here with expectations of what it should be, but it is what it is — a place to get a beer and maybe a bit to eat in an outdoor setting. Not the greatest thing to happen to food since sliced bread, but there’s nothing wrong with it either. Very relaxed atmosphere every time I’ve been here, and I’ve always found it pleasant and enjoyable.

Really nice people. Beer is meh — had the double IPA and could not taste hops or any character. Pulled pork sandwich was disgusting — it smelled like old meat. Really you guys need to check the expired date. Looks like lot of investment for a disappointment.

Our first visit here. There are two parts to this place: the inside restaurant on the street and the«bier» deck behind the building, completely separated from it across their back parking lot(they are now adding a deck to the rear of the restaurant building for outside dining, too). The restaurant had nice ambiance(large bar, exposed brick walls with exposed ductwork, and a nice fireplace), but my wife and I were there to enjoy a drink outside while viewing the Missouri River rolling by. We were directed back outside and to walk across that rear parking lot to the bier deck… kind of an odd setup, but it was fine. The deck was pretty neat, with several levels, most of it covered, and lots of ceiling fans and standing fans(it was a hot day, so those were appreciated). The kilted bartender was quick to offer samples of the beers, and I sampled four and bought/drank two… doesn’t matter which ones, b/c you can get samples and decide for yourself… point is, they were all tasty and well made. They brew their own, plus have other microbrew type beers to offer, as well as standard stuff. My wife had a riesling and said it was good. We shared a quesadilla, and it was actually pretty good, with excellent, fresh-tasting salsa and guacamole to dip it in. You have to order food and drinks at the bar, which means standing in a line with only one cash register, which can be a long process even with a small crowd. And yes, the railings are at exactly eye-height for an average person, so the view of the river is not what it could be… bar-stool-height tables and chairs would fix that right up. In all, a good experience that could be made better with some tweaking by the owner(s). But definitely worth a second visit by us one of these days.

Deck is cool although seats have you looking into the rail. Have to order at the bar and they have a half menu outside. Workers look unhappy and there a sign that says not to feed their dog. We did anyways.

Food is terrible! If you are wondering«how on earth can you ruin chips and salsa,» come here. Came for my friend’s improv show. I ordered the $ 6 chips and salsa, and I’m still amazed by what I got passing as chips and salsa. The spicy, warm marinara sauce tasted nothing like salsa, more like something served with mozzarella sticks at Appleby’s. The guacamole was clearly from a bag. Everything was vastly overpriced with no appealing options. My server was nice enough to give me a complimentary drink after I returned my food. The beer is good, but what good is beer without good food to compliment it when you’re going out? Surely there’s a better option.

I’m sure had we come for beer and during the evening our tale would be different… After attending a conference in Washington our school faculty decided to eat lunch here. We called ahead since there were 25 of us. We sat down and drink orders were quickly taken but didn’t arrive for almost 15 minutes. When asked if our waitress was returning to our table after choosing to help customers who had come in after us, she snootily replied she was coming right over. We ordered our food which took almost 45 minutes to come out. When we all paid separately she again seemed perturbed and took her sweet time. Our time was made sweeter by the homecoming parade and tasty food but not going to rush to return anytime soon.

Our family enjoyed our evening at the restaurant. The Thai Curry(red) with chicken was a good choice. The wait staff was friendly and made our evening pleasant. We will definitely be going back.

This place was our last stop of the day. We got some appetizers. The bacon chicken dip had a bit of a kick at the end. We think it should have been called buffalo chicken dip. My friend was in heaven with all of the beer choses, he ended up drinking three different kinds. I had a bottle of wine from the place that we had last visited. The deck over looks the river. It was peaceful and a great way to end the day.

Drinks, food, board games, fire pits and live music… what’s not to like? We came here on a chilly night and because it is near the river, the fire pits are perfect to sit around to stay warm. I love the board games and ‘rock em sock em’ that are left out for customers to play around with — very nostalgic. I enjoyed the live music and the wine list was pretty decent. A nice place to visit in the area!

We visited here the past Saturday afternoon before the Marthasville Mud Bog, and stumbled upon this place while looking for some lunch. We orginally walked into the building off Main St, but we wanted to sit outside so we were directed out back to the deck/bar area. The deck and location were fabulous… Right along the river, my son could watch the trains go by, and we adults could relax… The only negative I would say, and the reason I gave it 4 stars was because we had to walk up the stairs to the upper deck to order and get our drinks, however the server DID bring our food down when it was ready. I ordered the chick ranch panini and it was nice and hot, and really good. nothing too fancy, but great… My son had the hot dog and that thing was gigantic!!! all beef i would assume, and really tasty!!! My better half ordered the nachos, and they looked really good… Both were served with a kettle cooked chips(probably Lays) but still yummy. We will definitely return if/when we return to the area. Thumbs up from me! oh and they also do brewery tours!

This has a beautiful view of the Missouri River. It’s nice to sit back and enjoy a glass of wine with friends here. The food selection could be a little better but it’s not to bad.

While visiting friends in Washington for the evening, we opted for John G’s after strolling along the ~3mi riverfront bike path. We sat on their patio and enjoyed the live Saturday evening music. We had three kiddos in tow and the casual setting made it easy to handle our crew — the kids wandered around our area, befriending the kid at the table next to us. I ordered the turkey wrap which I’d recommend. The potato chips were also good. The pizza and some melt-type-thing also got gobbled up. For a laid back Saturday evening, I’d recommend enjoying the river view and live music at John G’s!

I really enjoy going to John G’s. The location, the drinks, the music, it’s all a groovy combination. The wine and beer selection is great, and it’s easy to try something new when you’re feeling adventurous. I especially like going in the fall because of their seasonal offerings. It’s a good alternative to the rest of the local bar scene. Outdoors, a little more calm, less loud, relaxing, and enjoyable.

Such a cool place! It makes me happy to see places like this and Old Dutch thriving in downtown Washmo and nasty, disgusting hoojgasms like Doc Haus closing their doors. Addition by subtraction in that case. =D This place has a totally decent selection of wine from local wineries and local microbrews… so don’t come here expecting to get Bud Select. Closest thing they have to something you may have tried before would be a Shock Top or Land Shark. I love the location! Right on scenic Front Street overlooking the Missouri River. The multi-tiered deck can seat… I’m guessing probably 80 – 100 people, and features frequent live acoustic guitar from local artists. Most of the top deck is covered, and there are fire pits for chillier nights in the fall. John G’s is the perfect answer to what to do on a saturday afternoon in Washington between the winery and the late-night spot. The sign may say they’re only open until 10 pm on weekends, but I know I’ve been there until close to 11 on at least one occasion… and someone even brought me and my ladyfriend a blanket AFTER10 pm on one of those nights… I thought they were coming to tell us to wrap it up!

I just can’t stand eating with plastic forks and knives. Awful. The flatbread was ok, beer was cold. They put a $ 60 hold on my debit card for $ 27 worth of food and beer. That’s annoying. Plenty of other places that use real flatware and don’t put unreasonable holds on my debit card.

Fun little place. Would have been nicer if the bartender actually cared about service. She was too busy eating,(yes, eating at the bar… a peeve of mine)…and socializing with friends. The beer is fine. Could have made a nice deck for looking at the river, but the railing height, combined with standard patio furniture, is at eye level. Very distracting. They need to get bar height seating to enable a river view. Last check, the female owner was adamant about not having WIFI. She said this wasn’t a place to do business…(confused??? I was at that repsonse… it was as if she was proud she didn’t have it…).

This place is the only thing I actually enjoyed during my stay in Washington, MO. John G’s is basically a giant, two-level deck along the river. They serve local beers and have a decent enough number of bar food items. If you want to sit outside and drink some beer, this place is hard to beat. The main level has the bar and is mostly covered. There are umbrella shades at all the tables, and fans or heaters depending on how the weather is going. They are only open March through December, Thursday through Sunday. We visited on a Saturday afternoon after a morning of wine tastings. The hot dog and soft pretzel I got were good and just the fuel I needed to enjoy a few beers before heading to more wineries. There was a guy there playing live music and a cool dog that was more than happy to eat the leftover chips we would throw at him. Bring mosquito repellent.
