Dor Cros Inn

Si the girl and I were taking a trip and decided last minute (that afternoon) to try and arrange lodging for the night on Washington IS.
Good luck, right?
I called the Dor Cros on a direct line in the mainland ferry terminal. They had one last room! I booked it over the phone, and we caught the next boat over.
At check in, the owner, was AMAZING. he had made a personal map of the island with highlighted attractions for us to choose from. He made a list of the local restaurants and business that told us their hours, menus, and payment options. Needless to say, we were surprised and used them extensively.
As we went to our cabin, there was a little personal note typed up on the bed wishing us a happy stay. I know it may sound chinsey, but that was the topping on the sundae.
This place is cute, affordable, has a great location, nice amenities (fire-​pit with wood, free if somewhat worn bikes for daily use) and personal attention from owners that really enjoy what they do.
Yes, the rooms are dated and small, but they are also cozy, comfortable, and charming.
I told the girl we might need to make this a regular visit…

A nice little inn, minutes from the ferry and the main street of the island where most of the restaurants are situated.
Nice, little but not fancy.
But you are not going to Washington Island to be fancy; stay at home to wear your Channel and frolic in satin sheets.
You are warned.
The double room is rather on the small side but has a bed, a sofa, a few lamps, a TV/​DVD set and an attached bathroom. The bed is TINY and squeaky — so be prepared for a bed night of sleep or just send your significant other on the sofa in the middle of the night (works best for couples over 2 years).
But what sold me on the place is the free bikes available to all guests. There are plenty of them, and you can even used tandems if it strikes your fancy (I tried and didn’t like it AT ALL but who knows?!?). Very nice to go all around the island.
Don’t miss it.
Several grills, chaise chairs and a fire pit and also there for your comfort. Take advantage of it.
A solid option on the other side of the Death’s Door.
