Went at an off hour, so factor that in with my comments. Sat at the bar. Very nice, I could visualize it crowded and active. We had only a glass of wine to drink, but we ordered the fried oysters and they were perfect. Delicious, sweet and light. The setting is very nice and Washington Depot Is very cute. One downer was our service. The bartender must have been new and spent more time fussing and figuring out her register than paying attention to us. She forgot to give us napkins, silverware and the water we asked for. And we were two of a total of 4 persons seated at the bar. She was very inattentive. Otherwise, a nice place I’d like to try again.

Great atmosphere, very nice people and excellent food! The burger and fries were great, the tomato-basil soup was crazy good and the blackbean quinoa cakes were incredible. I sent back the lemon cake because it was so dry and the watermelon gazpacho was yummy, but so garlicky it was almost too much. We’d totally come back!

So glad I found this place accidently. Food was great and atmosphere too. Sitting outdoors is very refreshing. Will definitely be back again.

Not only did they have vegan food, but they were very accommodating considering we arrived between lunch/dinner

Owner very rude they messed up our reservation and tried to stick us at a smaller table. The presentation was mediocre at best and no offense to the chefs the ingredients ordered by the owner just seemed thrown together from all the same basic food. Don’t come here you’ll regret it.

We went here for Valentines day. The place was busy but got us seated at our reservation time. The room looked great; the old wood beams and the large fireplace in the bar area. We got the Lobster Bisque and had the duck and prime rib for our dinners. All food was very good and well done. A small, but nice selection of local beer. A very enjoyable night. We finished off with the toffee pudding. It was very sweet and good.

I like this restaurant, the tomato soup is amazing, but I went to lunch there this Saturday and ordered a cup of tomato soup and the baby lettuce salad. The soup was great as usual, but the baby salad came with a large amount of salad, 2 slices of cucumber and 1 cherry tomato and cost $ 8.50! Unbelievable. Think I will just use the restaurant for take out of the soup and forgo eating there. The service at the bar was also bad with an empty restaurant.

From the moment you walk into this little treasure, you feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s tavern in 1850. The place is set in revolutionary New England and is a treat to behold with portraits and busts of our first president, George Washington everywhere along with colonial décor and amazing original furnishings and hard wood floors. We ordered mulligatawny soup to share and we’re not disappointed… sweet and spicy curry soup with pasta instead of rice. Prior to that we were brought a small basket with two pieces of different breads including an apple cider donut half– what a treat! A hearty Founders breakfast stout was in our glass and the service was superb! More to come…

Went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and sat outside. Food was good, server was brand new but he was a good kid. Enjoyed the selection of breads they gave us and wide variety of options for the non-meat eaters. I had a chicken sandwich — it was delicious. Will definitely be back again. Only thing I didn’t like was the snotty rich woman that sat behind us. I felt bad for the waitress — they gave her such a hard time. She handled it like a pro, though.

Our son and daughter-in-law’s wedding and reception was at GW’s last weekend. The Hors d’oeuvres were the best that I have ever had in my life — anywhere — and we have traveled and eaten out quit a bit. Tempura vegtables, Ruben balls, pulled pork quesadillas, shrimp cocktail, grilled shrimp, crab cakes, grilled eggplant, grilled squash, batter fried broccoli that was amazing — I could go on… The venue was beautiful including the outside wedding by the river on a gorgeously done terraced, landscaped and manicured lawn. The tavern was lit and decorated perfectly — the ambiance was wonderful. The dinner included salmon cooked exactly right and prime rib I literally cut with a fork. The garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe were also cooked perfectly. All of the food was fresh and consisted of high quality ingredients. Great drinks! The wait staff could not of been more accommodating.

GW Tavern in Washington Depot is worth making the turn onto Route 47 from 202. Cozy & friendly GW is nestled on the Shepaug River. There is a bar & fireplace. We sat at the bar, which filled up quickly with friendly locals. After ordering dinner, Eric the bartender brought us a warm basket of bread, which included corn bread, sourdough bread and a couple of buns. I ordered the spare rips & onion soup. They were both exceptional. The apple pie a la mode was heavenly.

This place looks like a little pub but fools you when you walk in. Very nice atmosphere. Food is ok. I wasn’t impressed with the food and the prices. I adult and 3 kids and the bill came to $ 85. That’s with one kid eating a kids meal. This place isn’t fancy and the food is so so. It doesn’t deserve the prices they charge for lunch. Some dinner meals cost $ 30. Service was ok. The waitress never asked if we had everything or offered to refill our drinks. Not going back.

I’ve eaten here several times and in all seasons. I love the ambience of the place, very colonial and George Washington themed(hence GW). The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and the food good, if not spectacular. Last night, however, had the Weiner Schnitzel, which was flavorless and overdone, and keeps this review from being a strong 4. This could be an anomaly; my wife had the fish and chips, and was pleased. We’re not crossing it off our list for one less than great meal, but a couple more disappointments will erase the good history we’ve had here. Good bar, reasonable drink prices.

So cozy and very New England inside. It’s a great stop for snowy Saturday evenings. Live music on weekends. Wood burning fireplace is always a great feature. Intimate becomes crowded on weekends. Small bar. Curt service. Solid cuisine. Highlights: grilled center cut pork chop, beer batter fish & chips, peppercorn filet w brandied cream sauce, pear salad w blue cheese & cider vinegar, fried oysters, & the NE traditional Sticky toffee pudding. Perfect for an intimate evening or after skiing.

Stopped by last friday because i needed to eat before my ride back home to queens. I had the best burger I ever had in a long time. Don’t usually eat fries, they were great. One beer, ice cold and perfect. The burger was so good, I overheard the kitchen staff talking, that that evening’s special was bracciole with spinach and house made fettuccini, which I immediately ordered for take out. Later that night, I enjoyed that amazingly delicious dinner! I was born and lived in Italy, I should know! The staff was friendly, accomodating, and welcoming. The service was exceptional! Bravo, GW Tavern!

GDubs is a solid bet for a cozy, gorge yourself by the fire on a winter’s night kind of time. In fact for the five years I have been coming to this place, I do not think I have ever been here in the summer… I knock one star off for mediocre tap selection. I truly enjoy the ambiance — old New England architecture, a roaring fire, stuffy weekend townies clad in cashmere sweaters. The service is always pleasant and good. Shout out to the bar staff especially. The French Onion Soup and Sticky Toffee pudding are two menu staples to definitely try. No matter what you choose, I can’t say I have had a bad meal here. Bonus for those with special diets: the menu is accommodating with gluten free, vegetarian and low fat explicitly called out.
