Space flight + dancing + boobies = epic!
What is Yuri’s Night you ask? Only the celebration of the first human to travel in outer space! So every April 12, people commemorate the flight of Yuri Gagarin and the enduring spirit of humanity to explore and discover. The party takes various forms around the world. It manifests itself in DC as a space themed burlesque show with some bands and a sci fi art show.
The burlesque show has been getting more and more theatric in the 6 years I’ve attended. This year by far had the best jokes and writing, with some very clever twists on Star Wars memes. The dancing girls were very sexy and talented and the space themed costuming really rounded out their performance. Finally, there is a surprise twist this year.
Aside from the show there is funky space themed artwork everywhere. The bars are churning out vodka drinks, and there is a Rock’em Sock’em Robots tournament. For reals.
