Couldn’t decide on a sandwich so I let the staff order for me. What did I get? Saigon Sam!!! Yum!!! Delish! Cookies were great, staff was attentive, clean shop, good price. I’ll be back.

I’ve been patronizing this establishment since it initially opened in the neighborhood, but today was not a very flattering or customer service oriented experience. I received such a nonchalant non-caring attitude from the person behind the register that it was unusual for this place. Granted this critique has nothing to do with the food but everything to do with the service I received today. Ordered the embassy of turkey sandwich and intended to get cookies to go with it but there was such a burnt smell resonating throughout the establishment and there was probably one cookie to be seen anywhere… which again is unusual for this place. It’s always been my understanding that part of selling is enticement but clearly there was none of that to be had with no enticing cookies to be seen so I didn’t get any. After walking back home I decided to contact the management and express my displeasure but unfortunately the manager was too busy to come to the phone which is not the type of business where I prefer to spend my money, so I probably won’t again. There may not be much to choose from in this neighborhood but trust me everything is within walking distance, oh and there are many many many places that deliver and I did mention that are within driving distance.

SHARON! I just left there I’m the retired COP that has eaten at a lot of places in DC. Wow was I surprised! I asked you your favorite and you said the turkey and was almost going to get it till I saw the RIP James Gandolfini, how can you not order that! Forgetaboutit! Best ever! Great job I will be back with my entourage! I also bought 6 cookies and can only eat a quarter of one in order to get a taste of them all! WOWWOWWOW!

Love this place. I’ve came in for breakfast and for lunch. I’ve had the oatmeal and the egg and cheddar bagel, both are yummy and light. I really enjoyed this bagel sandwich just because most bagel spots have oily bagel sandwiches, so it’s hard to enjoy the actual ingredients. Where as, this one wasn’t oily and tasted amazing. I’ve had the embassy of turkey for lunch, and that was also very good; big and filling. There are about two or three tables inside to sit, not a very big place, but they also have outdoor seating as well. Knocked off one star because the first time I came, the lady taking orders and preparing the food was not very talkative at all, don’t know if she was having a bad day or what, but I didn’t appreciate a yucky attitude in the morning. The second time I went, it was a different lady and she was very nice. I recently tried the cookies, and was not a fan. The chocolate chip cookie was hard and needed to be warmed up(keep in mind I got fresh cookies). Definitely won’t get cookies from here, but will come back for the bagels! Overall, great place, and I’ll come back for sure, a nice local spot!

My company catered from Uncle Chip’s and I loved what I saw! A sandwich, a brownie/cookie, and a small bag of chips were packed inside of a box. I got Meet Me in Malibu — Veggie which has Goat Cheese, Herb Pesto, Avocado, Shredded Carrot, Red Onion and Sprouts. For brownie/cookie, I chose Black Bean Brownie because it sounded unique. The sandwich was good but I wished there were more ingredients inside. The brownie was delicious but on the sweeter side. I really liked the uniqueness and gluten-free/vegetarian options!

This is a cute spot and the lady who works here is SO nice and helpful, which is why it got the 4th star. The oatmeal raisin cookie was a good size and better than the average cookie.

2 ½ stars I used to like this place, despite a previous 1130am deadline on bagels. Recently, the sandwiches have gotten smaller and ingredients have changed. This morning, we we served a veggie bagel with tomato and the tomato still had the stem on it. The real kicker is the staff. The owner is great and you can tell takes pride in her business, but the other staff are indifferent at best. Not a hello when walking in, not a thank you upon paying. I’ll keep going… remembering better days.

This place is awesome. Great coffee and sandwiches. The best cookie is the double-chocolate chip!

My best friend suggested this place a while ago for a really good chocolate chip cookie so I was super stoked to finally try it after having lunch. I specifically made room in my tummy for dessert since I already decided to go here for dessert. First of all, it’s a tiny place so expect to grab your cookie and go. You can definitely take a seat and hang out if you’d like; it’s just a tiny space. The menu is simple enough. I was hoping for white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie, but they didn’t have it. It’s $ 2 per cookie and it’s a pretty good size for that price. I got a standard chocolate chip cookie and my wife got a double chocolate chip cookie and a coffee. The taste was great after you get used to the crunch of the cookie because it had been sitting out for a while. We were there around 1 pm, maybe, so I guess it’s understandable that cookies aren’t fresh but… My wife did have to microwave her cookie to make it softer. Oh and she hated the coffee. If I do come back, it’ll be right when they open so I can compare it to the last one. Or maybe their cookies are just crunchy… who knows.

So I must agree it is the best turkey sandwich in DC. And I consider myself a turkey Sammie connoisseur. I used to live nearby to this spot and would frequent(too) often for this sandwich and the cookies. Just moved, and still making the trek up North Capitol for Uncle Chips, because it is that good of a spot!

I use Uncle Chips for lunch for some of my workshops. The sandwiches are invariably good, the order is almost always wrong on at least one sandwich. Call ahead if you are ordering multiple items.

I’ve been attracted to this bright turquoise sign in passing for quite a while but always a thought of going in but never the time until one fateful Sunday afternoon I stopped in with my hubs. They only had 3 cookies left(2 peanut butter and 1 oatmeal) and my husband picked oatmeal. I was disappointed in his choice, oatmeal cookies can be hit or miss until… I TASTEDIT. OMG! That cookie was 3 shades of delicious! I wanted to find Uncle Chip and give him a big kiss. The edges were crunchy the middle was soft and I’ve never had an oatmeal cookie that good before. I will definitely go back and try the chocolate chip.

Two and a half stars. Street parking in the area. Very limited variety, okay quality, nothing that makes it stand out as a destination by itself. The employee was a little brusque at our indecisiveness, even though there weren’t other customers to attend to. Got heckled by locals a bit sitting out on the patio, but nothing aggro enough to make us scoot lickety-split. The cookies were huge, and I was happy with my oatmeal raisin fresh out of the oven, gooey chips folded in and topped by oats; the double chocolate chip from the case was a little crunchier than expected and as sweet as one would expect. Worth the cost? Ehh, debatable. CC&M is keeping my loyalty so far in the cookie business category, but I might check out UC café’s Embassy of Turkey or Mr. Havana sandwiches if the the savory spot down the block fails to satiate.

This place has unfortunately gone WAY downhill. I love the owner, she is funny and passionate and has clearly put her life into this place, but the other staff that work there are beyond horrible. Every time I go in I get these death glares — like they are upset with me that I came in to buy something. Quality has really diminished, too. I always get the Bates Street sandwich but it is now like a quarter of the size it used to be — it’s not even worth getting anymore. It’s such a shame because the place has a lot of potential.

Walked up to Chip’s before a tour at NPR. I got the double chocolate cookie– a little on the crispier side but tasty none the less!

Although the staff was incredibly nice, I just didn’t like the cookies. They advertise them to be crispy on the outside chewy on the inside, but all I had was crispy all the way through. And I happen to be a soft & chewy cookie kinda girl. If you like crispy cookies, definitely give them a shot, but unfortunately I probably won’t be going back to Uncle Chip’s anytime soon.

Strictly about the cookies and service. Recently went here for a cookies — not that great of a price for a dozen to be honest, and the cashier was super rude when I requested all oatmeal raisin. And when I finally tried these supposedly fresh off the oven cookies, they were pretty stale. I love myself oatmeal cookies but bleh. I have yet to try their sandwiches but the cookies I will pass!

Very good sandwiches all of them are freshly made. You actually get enough meat for almost two sandwiches just wish they would put on more than just a slice of tomato or two pieces of onion. Ask me if I want less or more or put on a decent amount. I will tell you the cookies are big and better than the sandwich.

I was excited to check out Uncle Chip’s, as this place has been on my list. The menu is pretty short and sweet, offering breakfast platters and sandwiches, lunch/specialty sandwiches, and cookies. They also offer catering services and nationwide shipping. I was curious in trying out the Saigon Sam, one of their pulled pork sandwiches, but they were out of the pork T___T Instead, I tried their famous ‘Embassy of Turkey,’ which came with sliced turkey, avocado slices, red onion, tomato, mayo, provolone cheese, and a fresh lemon squeeze, all on a toasted ciabatta bread — the sandwich itself was pretty okay, but I wished the ciabatta bread was toasted a little longer on a higher power, or substitute for a better-tasting bread. The turkey meat was fresh, but the avocado slices were more on the scarce end. It was overall an okay sandwich. I also tried their freshly-baked Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate Chip cookies — both were pretty delectable! The Chocolate Chip was quite large, and it was surprising that it was nice and crispy on the outside, but still goey with the melty chocolate chips inside — it was not overly sweet, but really tasty! The Double Chocolate Chip was not bitter at all(I am glad that it wasn’t all dark chocolate-focused) and also had a crispy exterior with a melty interior. On weekends, they also have Cinnamon Rolls — they are pretty large in size, but I was disappointed in that they were extremely dry and stale(the look was quite deceiving!) T____T I’d love to try out their other 2 cookies, the Oatmeal Raisin and the Peanut Butter. Service was a little absent-minded, and the place had a few tables to dine-in. The place itself had no AC, and there were a constant flow of panhandlers that came in to ask for meals. Some limited free residential parking can be found along Bates. +Chocolate Chip cookie +Double Chocolate Chip cookie +dry/stale Cinnamon Rolls T____T +ingredients for sandwiches run out quickly T____T +absent-minded service T____T +limited free residential parking

The Embassy of Turkey sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches in DC. While the ingredients may not put your foodie sensors on high alert at first glance, it’s the quality of the ingredients and the care put forth in making it that makes for a stand out sandwich. I’m not even normally a big fan ciabatta bread, but it’s just so soft and fresh here that it’s hard to deny. The bread is toasted and then piled delicately atop are layers of thinly sliced, hearty turkey, provolone cheese, ripe avocado, red onion, tomato, dash of cracked black pepper and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. It’s perfection. The one caveat to that statement however is that it’s utter perfection about 2⁄3 times I come here. Why? Well, there are two employees that I think take a lot of care and effort into making these sandwiches and there is one that doesn’t quite do it justice. If that employee is the only one behind the counter at the time I drop by, I’ll usually just pick up my fave hibiscus iced tea and be out. I’ve probably had the sandwich over a dozen times and that’s really the only time my sandwich experience is a wild card. The small size is pretty hefty, so unless you plan on sharing I believe it’s more than enough for most individuals. Believe it or not, I’ve never actually tried any of their cookies or desserts because I’ve been so turned out by this sandwich that I become laser focused when I drop by. I’ll eventually make sure that I get around to breaking myself off with a piece of them cookies doe!
