Funny enough I never knew that this existed and simply stumbled upon it when I was attempting to take a short cut from the archives to the mall area. I really enjoyed the wide variety of plants that were here. I did happen to take some time and learn about a few of them as they were very interesting and pleasing to the eye. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back into this area and take a seat on one of the benches and attempt to forgot that you are in the center of a an urban area.

A little hidden gem of a park sandwiched between the Natural History Museum and the Sculpture Garden. Just a block long with 2 brick paths, the plants and flowers attract a variety of fluttering friends. While many will just see the walkways as a cut through to the street beyond. Be sure to take your time and pause awhile on one of the benches or just slowly stroll through the four represented habitats. Even when butterflies aren’t about, I enjoy all the colors of the garden and in particular a leisurely stop by the pond with its vibrant water lilies.

It’s the little things in life that make it so much better. That’s roughly translated from what my grandmother used to constantly tell me when we’d go to the Portuguese markets together in Macão. This short walkway is a miniature glimpse into the life and habitats of our butterfly friends. Come through during your next evening constitution or enroute to a lovely museum trip. You may not see many butterflies, but you’ll see other insects and some nicely done landscapes. Also, handy-dandy for a cool off when the sun in DC is unrelenting.
