They deserve three stars less than I gave them!!! Avoid this pretentious piece of shit at all cost. Couldn’t tell you how the food was because I wasn’t wearing a jacket. Jackets don’t aid in digestion or help the taste of the food. As a matter of fact a jacket adds no value at all — except these fuck stains turned me away because I didn’t have one. They did offer to lend me one — because that’s appetizing, wearing a jacket that a million other fucks have worn so they can keep up their pretentious image. Fuck this place — hit Bobby vans — great food and they appreciate your business.

The number one rated steak house in DC by Zagat which I didn’t realize. We were staying downtown so this was a nearby walk. Being a huge prime rib fan, I had this as a must visit while in DC. Heart the interior — classy, timeless and elegant. The live piano bar was a nice feature and we were seated at a plush comfortable booth. We started off splitting the house salad with famous dressing which was delicious. I selected the prime rib which was the best I’ve eaten — ever bite was so tender and the au jous was seasoned perfectly. The sides of creamed spinach and potatoes were also solid along with stellar waiter service. I met the owner of the establishment who was so down to earth and appreciative for our patronage. This number 1 rating by Zagat is well earned for the outstanding service and quality in a perfect setting.

I travel every week. I eat out multiple times a week. Quite honestly, this is one of the best experiences I’ve had. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was honest and attentive. While I felt taken care of, I was never overwhelmed. The food was outstanding. I had potato skins, prime rib and creamed spinach — all were cooked perfectly. If you want to be treated with the upmost respect and have some phenomenal food, this is the place for you.

My husband chose this restaurant as our«fancy» dinner on our vacation. We ordered lobster bisque, we each ordered a salad(Buzz’s Salad & The Prime Rib House Salad), filet mignon, prime rib, potatoes au gratin, asparagus with hollandaise and crème brûlée for dessert. Appetizers: The lobster bisque was absolutely wonderful with decent sized chunks of lobster. I would definitely recommend this to others. The salads were good. The Buzz’s Salad seemed a little under dressed, however the house salad was perfect. Entrees: The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Here was my biggest problem, the prime rib left something to be desired. With the name of the restaurant being THEPRIMERIB, I figured the prime rib would be hands down the best prime rib I had ever eaten… to put it simply, it wasn’t. I’ve had better prime rib at chain restaurants such as Longhorn. It was under seasoned and had little flavor. Sides: The asparagus was delicious, especially with the entire gravy boat of hollandaise sauce we ordered to go with it. The potatoes au gratin were probably my favorite part of the meal second to the lobster bisque. Dessert: The crème brûlée was great, as most tend to be. The portion was a little smaller than I would have imagined, but the flavor was good. Service: Our server was courteous and took very good care of us. Atmosphere: The pianist made a very romantic atmosphere and the luxurious tables and chairs were also very comfortable. Final thoughts: I would come back, however I wouldn’t order the prime rib again.

The only coat and tie place left in DC ?? Rude ! Not friendly at all. I looked at and was looking forward to their menu! I couldn’t stay and spend my money with no coat or tie yet the 2 obvious high dollar hookers that walked outside could? Who paid for them and how was that half nekid outfit better than mine? Had I said transgendered could I be a customer? That’s how I felt. Very expensive place to eat, «I think»! Maybe even quality food? My $$$$ is good, but if wearing a tie I won’t go back. I risked my life in Vietnam to give them the right to turn me away unless escorted by a hooker?

Expensive but so worth it. You are transported back to the 50s. Men are required to wear jackets, shame the women can come in come what may! But the service, the escargot! Truly, the very best in the city! And of course, with Prime Rib in the name, if they screw it up… well they don’t! Hands down so amazing! Ate so much we had no room for dessert but… next time… Can’t wait to come back!

If you’re looking for a fancy place to celebrate, go no further than the Prime Rib. Named as one of the top five romantic restaurants in the U.S. by Food and Wine Magazine, the #1 Zagat rated steakhouse in D.C., and an IFMA Silver Plate winner, the Prime Rib is an old-world, «civilized steakhouse.» My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night for dinner. Men are required to wear jackets throughout dinner. Ties are optional. If you forget your dinner jacket, the restaurant has some for you to borrow. This is a very elegant and ritzy restaurant. Dress to impress! Everything inside the restaurant has old-school charm, a very art-deco vibe with tuxedoed waitstaff, black walls with gold trimmings, and live piano and bass music that doesn’t drown out your conversations like so many modern restaurants. We both ordered their signature cut of prime rib(with fresh grated horseradish on the side), the Buzz’s salad(romaine, avocado, tomato, egg with white balsamic vinaigrette, extra virgin olive oil, and pecorino romano), and shared sides of grilled artichoke hearts, creamed spinach, and green beans. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and it was so flavorful. I usually prefer filet mignon, but this prime rib was amazing. The Buzz’s salad was just okay, but the prime rib was fantastic. The creamed spinach and grilled artichoke hearts were both good; I’d recommend ordering those over the green beans. Service was impeccable, of course. I loved the live piano and bass music; typically, I prefer classical and jazzy over loud pop/hip-hop/rap where you can’t hear what your partner is saying. The servers are all on point. Also, complimentary valet!

Service not good waiter did not see the big tip in a single diner. I had prime rib– over cooked and tasteless and the baked potato was raw. They call this the number 1 Zagat rated steakhouse– must have been bribed to say that!

What attracted me to this restaurant before I went is that it was the first restaurant I’ve ever heard of that required men to wear«suit jackets» through the whole experience at the restaurant. That right there let me know that this was an intimate steakhouse. I researched the restaurant and the type of food they had. Of course the specialize in prime rib but let’s go beyond that. I saw photos of fish that looked beyond amazing and rack of lamb. I love lamb so of course I opt for the rack of lamb because I only eat steak once a month(as I’ve said in previous post). I’ve always wanted to go here when I looked up steak houses but this is definitely top 5 steak houses I’ve been too.(And I’ve been to atleast 15) Setting: Nice dimly lit. Romantic and business casual. Noise: Quiet. Food: Amazing. They give you maybe 6 or 7 chops and all of the chops are nice sizes if you order the rack of lamb. It comes with mint jelly as well(my first time tasting it) We also ordered the filet oscar style and that was great(real crab meat) and the creamed spinach was good. Cost: $ 200(2 entrees, 2 sides, oscar style add on, and cocktail) Come Back: Yes.(not in a hurry though)

I grew up with this restaurant. Every New Year’s Eve for 20 years, I’ve came here with my family to celebrate the year’s end and embark on the next. It’s a staple in my family. You do have to wear a coat and tie if you’re a man. They’re more relaxed on what women can wear, but you still can’t go too casual. The host is very friendly. The service is excellent. Harold has taken care of us for a couple years running. We now request him whenever we go. For appetizers, the crab meat cocktail is excellent. The housemade cocktail sauce is the perfect complement to the lump crab. The horseradish is always present, but doesn’t overpower at all. The salads are always fresh and served with the right amount of dressing. The star of the show is the signature cut prime rib. Getting in cooked anything over medium is criminal. The meat is expertly prepared and the taste is life changing. For dessert, the apple pie is the co-star. Can’t say enough how good the pie is. Decadent in every sense of the word. With an outstanding wine selection and great coffee to boot, the Prime Rib hits every note for a transformative dining experience.

$ 130 without tip will get you – — a beer — 2 signature cocktails(not strong for the steep price) — 2 entrees(totally worth every penny… the lamp chops and steak) — 1 side(au gratin potatoes were par… their signature potato skins were not that — we got these for free compliments of the chef. thanks for the dish, but no thanks next time.) Was it well worth it for my birthday? Absolutely. I could have done without the company, but the food was solid. Notable things should be mentioned that if you are not dressed up for this place — they will make sure they dress you. especially if you’re a guy. They literally have a sports coat selection at the jacket check for all sizes for me to make sure when you roll in that you are wearing a sports coat. I just hope they clean those regularly. The ambiance is full gorgeous chic décor and is very classy with a piano player gracing us with his music and minimal chatter among the Washington elite — mainly a bunch of old white guys with their significantly younger wives(mistresses? escorts? business associates?) They were close to my age, and I am pretty sure that wasn’t their dad squeezing her leg the way he did. I’d totally come back because service was top notch. That was the best part about the whole thing was how attentive they were to us. It was almost too perfect. I can appreciate it because it wasn’t overwhelming nor bothering, but simply enough. Valet is free.

The Prime Rib is an iconic steakhouse. The service and the food were impeccable. The signature dish, the prime rib was one of the best pieces of beef I have ever eaten and was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the imperial crab as an appetizer which had a generous amount of jumbo lump crab and also enjoyed my side orders of au gratin potatoes and grilled asparagus.

4.25 Stars Every now and again I like to go super old school and eat at super high end steak houses that warrant massive bills for none other huge slabs of meat and whatever random vegetable-like thing accompanies it. Especially when I know that there is a high probability that I will get my expensive meal paid for. This time, the unsuspecting victims were my parents — a rare but momentous occasion indeed where in most cases, the deepest levels of Hades would have to freeze over before you’d see my old man in a non-buffet restaurant. So here we were at the Prime Rib for no other reason than the fact we were famished and we were right next to my office ready to eat — I’m sure glad it was about to be some delicious prime rib and everyone was in quite the ravenous mood and thought of nothing other than big slabs of meat especially after convinced everyone of the redoubtable reputation of the Prime Rib. We did not have to be seated as we had no reservation — but the friendly staff accommodated us right away and sat us in a very pleasant table for six. We were just being super nice and they became super nice right back! That easy! I’m glaring at you, DC folks. The interiors are elegant, clean, warm, and inviting. You basically know right away that you’re dining in a high end establishment. While you feel the antiquated essence, there is also a touch of contemporary splashes of dark wood, lacquer panels, and trendy lighting. As we were seated, awkward exchanges began immediately — «where is the bread, where is the bread!?» My parents started asking.” Luckily the friendly waiter understood the situation — given the abundance of all the other neanderthals who frequent this place. No one in the group drinks — boooooooo. So we were forced to live this experience with nothing more than food and water. Oh, the humanity! This menu is about as idiot-proof as it gets. The Place is called the Prime Rib. And while there are a good amount of delicious menu items, you want to come for no other than the prime rib. It’s delicious, juicy, and perfectly seasoned and textured. Have I eaten better prime rib? Maybe. But what do I know besides for the fact that my dad paid the bill! Sweet! Seriously though, given the lack of drinks, the bill was very reasonable. If you’re on a budget, just skip the drinks at the Prime Rib and head across the Street to Froggy for cheap drinks. This is a great place to take clients and a really good place to dine with family and friends. Hats off to the excellent and professional staff. They set the standards.

This place is a BIGNONO!!! Their food Sucked big time. The meat was good but had no taste whatsoever. I asked for medium well & I got well done. Everyone has to wear suit even the waiters wear a full suit which makes it hard to tell who’s who. lol If you don’t wear a jacket, you will get forced to wear a loaner jacket. They try to make this place look like a high end restaurant but they are no where near that. They’re food is not worth the money spent so SAVEYOURMONEY and go somewhere else.

This is a beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. Large leather chairs, cozy bar, romantic setting with a pianist playing away. However, for a top notch steak house, there is a lot to be desired. I ordered the ribeye, which looked like a French cut steak. I asked for it Pittsburgh, but wasn’t seared. My friends filet mignon was not flavorable. The Ceasar salad had a sweet taste to it. The Bernaise sauce tasted like salad dressing. Not close to the quality of similar steak houses in town. The dining room is impeccable and service to match. Unfortunately the food seems tired.

I was a bit irritated by having to wear a loaner jacket, since I’d dropped my own coat at the hotel moments before. That’s my fault. Although who requires a jacket these days? However: by forcing me into a musty coat that’s hung on the wall for, judging by the cut, at least 50 years, you have set the bar high. The waiter’s familiarity with their«bourbon» selection was limited to «Jack Daniels?» It went downhill from there. The prime rib itself was solid, but everything else about the night was disappointing.

«Old-fashioned and classy erring on the upscale side in the dining/décor spectrum.» Let’s just say the restaurant had an air of elite and the feeling of meeting old fashioned exacting standards. Reservations was very easy to make and the hostess was helpful at accommodating any requests for slight scheduling changes. There is a dress code requirement and men must wear a jacket. The hostess was very specific in advising against modern style jackets and only wearing traditional types. She did assured us that they have loaners in case we do not meet the jacket standards. Walking into the restaurant you suddenly feel a sense exclusiveness. A doorman welcomed us and our server immediately walked us to our table. The décor was something to see and it took a few moments to process. The dark color motif and tufted furniture felt upscale as if from the set of the Sopranos. Service was definitely on point. The term«Devil In the Details» perfectly sums up the overall table service. I started with drinks(ordered a Manahattan) and an appetizer(fried jumbo shrimps). Proof of detail oriented service, the shrimps did not arrive in one plate, rather in two small plates equally divided with its own garnish and lemon slice. I chose the filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes for my main entrée. The filet was cooked to order and practically melted in my mouth. The mashed potatoes was rich and silky and went well with the filet. The final course was the New York cheesecake. We ordered one to share and it arrived divided into 2 portions served on its plate. The rich decadent taste was a nice ending to the filet meal. My overall impression is a high end experience with a touch of pretentiousness. Though the server was a little snobbish, the service was efficient, very well thought out and never failed to check in on our table.

I give 3 stars because food was about average, me and my fiancé ordered crab cake for appetizer and the filet mignon and potato skins for entrée. Not the best in comparison with other places like Mastro’s or old ebitt grill! The other reason of the 3 stars is our waiter(Veni) or at least this is how his name sound. Who was great till he saw how much we tipped him(16%). My fiancé wanted change for the valet, and asked Veni to help him at the bar, Veni looks at the check and sees how much his tip is and he threw the change cash my fiancé asked him for?!! What is this for!!! Place however is great and I love it. Food ok thu

Superb experience at the Prime Rib. I came here back in August for a lunch meeting with my colleagues and a vendor of ours. To start we ordered jumbo shrimp cocktail, imperial crab, and their famous potato skin baskets. All of the appetizers were delicious. The shrimp was juicy and plump. I don’t remember too much about the imperial crab, but I sure do remember the potato skins because they were nice and crispy. For our entrees, all of us ordered the daily three course lunch($ 30) which includes your choice of salad, the London Broil, Chicken Piccata, or Fresh fish of the day served with cream of spinach and mash potatoes and your choice of crème brûlée or key lime pie. I chose the London Broil, because DUH, if you’re at the Prime rib you have to try the prime rib. The prime rib itself was juicy and tender, everything that I expected and more. The creamed spinach and the mash potatoes were the perfect side dishes to accompany the London Broil. The desserts were pretty good, but the star of the show was the Prime Rib. Staff were very attentive, this place is pretty formal so make sure you dress appropriately.

The Prime Rib is a place that’s been a staple in DC for ever. After hearing from my girlfriend how great it was(her father used to play at the Prime Rib for 20+ years), I finally got a chance to tag along with them! It’s everything you’d imagine in an old DC steakhouse. Super swanky, classy, old school, and jazzy all at the same time. There’s a piano centered in the dining room for all the guests to enjoy which adds a lot to the ambiance of the experience. Our waiter, Eric, seemed like he’d been serving there for a long time. He had some whit about him so he was able to take a few fun jabs at the table whom he was familiar with. Always nice to have a waiter with a sense of humor. We started off with the potato skins for the table. Man. This was actually the first time I’ve had potato skins where the skin was completely hollowed out and crisped. They were phenomenal. The horseradish sauce went super well with them. We also got a caesar salad and they split it up 3 ways for us. The dressing was made without eggs to it was less creamy than a normal caesar salad but still very, very good. I got the NY Strip au poivre for my entrée. I ordered it medium rare and it ended up being just a tad over, closer to a medium. It was still an excellent steak. It was super juicy and I love the peppercorn crust all over. If you’re looking for a classy night out and have a little money to spend, The Prime Rib would be a great place to go for some good food, drinks, service, and experience!

I’ve had great food and service before, but Prime Rib left me feeling… romanced lol. I think the bf even felt the same way! It was probably due to the soothing jazz music from the piano and bass player that evening. They were wonderful, and the bassist had even played with Frank Sinatra back in his day. The romantic ambiance, free valet(yes!), excellent food and service all made our night a memorable one. Our prime rib and 18oz ribeye were cooked to medium rare perfection. The jumbo lump crab cake appetizer was so good, the bf had to order a second one after devouring his steak. And the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were divine. Dessert of tiramisu was on the house for our anniversary, which was a sweet finish to our night. And wine bottles were 30% off this particular evening as well. We got what they referred to as the best seats in the house — a table right in front of the grand piano. The gentlemen playing the piano and double bass were impressive, and it surprisingly wasn’t that loud despite being right in front of the instruments.(The bassist is only there on Friday and Saturday nights). Service was great from start to finish. Our server gave us excellent suggestions and provided the perfect balance of attention and privacy. Everyone there, including the valet, was so warm and friendly. I highly recommend Prime Rib for any special occasion — parking is convenient, food is delicious, and entertainment and service are one of the best.

Brought a party of eight to this fabulous upscale(jacket required) steakhouse during a recent trip to D.C., and was thoroughly impressed with the service, the food, and the extensive wine selection. My steak au poivre was cooked perfectly, and the Oysters Rockefeller that preceded it were equally outstanding. Our waiter selected the perfect bottle of Pinot to accompany the meal, and was exceedingly attentive throughout our visit. D.C. has no shortage of great steakhouses, and The Prime Rib is right up there with the best of them.

My boyfriend is responsible for a lot of this unique review but he mentioned he did consider more common steakhouses such as Ruth Chris’ and they failed to meet his demands. He showed up several hours before my birthday dinner with a giant bouquet of flowers and requested the best table in the house he could find. As far as I was told, the house manager was very accommodating and walked him around the restaurant pointing out where the piano player would be, potential views, or flaws of each seat. He was not treated negatively because he was dressed very casually. The restaurant stored the bouquet until our reservation(8:30). When we pulled up we were greeted by valet, and did not have to open the doors ourselves, there’s a coat check, we were seated immediately! I do recommend, for an intimate date the two tables against the wall that gives one of the two partners direct view of the piano and both people large leather chairs.(In the rear of the picture I uploaded) For our needs though the booth seating was perfect! The piano was directly behind us, we were able to be as close as we wanted to each other, and the table is much larger than the other 2 person tables, allowing room for my bouquet and all our food. The restaurant was bustling even on a Monday! We met some truly great patrons that night, because they stopped by our table to compliment us or say hello. I think our table drew extra attention and people even held their breath for a proposal, but he’s just that romantic all the time(haha!). I do echo some other reviews, we were the youngest BYFAR in this restaurant, but that’s nothing new most 20 somethings aren’t in an expensive, jacket required place. Jackets required, even while seated, it’s on the menu in case you forget. Classic 5 star restaurant service, chairs pulled for women, women served first, clean utensils, rimmed wineglasses, proper wine glasses, great ambiance, pristine bathrooms, tablecloths folded in your absence, purses allowed their own stools when needed, etc. In this regard, the restaurant is not just resting on a 50 year old reputation like some reviews allude to. The servers work like a well tuned orchestra! Any conversations or corrections happen off stage left, it seems like the staff even walk in step! Hats off to the staff here, they really have mastered their field. The creamed spinach was awesome, the swordfish was rather bland. I’m afraid I have to echo most reviews in the fact that my food wasn’t great, hell I don’t know if it was even good. But like some other reviews the overall experience for a special night was great. But for the quality of food Double Eagle Steak House, STK, and Charlie Palmer may win out. As an added bonus the host is also your happy birthday opera singer! He sang to us in Italian and it was really neat. The birthday girl got a 24 K gold plate for my birthday dessert, complimentary of the chef. Overall I can’t wait to go back to try to sit at the bar, listen to the live music, and be back in the dark room, secret meeting type environment.

4 stars = food. 3.5 stars = service & staff. Drove up to the restaurant and didn’t see any valet guy standing outside like they should. So had to park in a garage. Upon entering, just stood in the front being completely ignored for a good couple minutes. Don’t feel welcomed at all. Jacket is required for men, ambiance is whatever. They try to be classy and upscale but to me, didn’t feel like that at all in any way. Tables are extremely close to each other, so you can hear everyone else’s conversation… Because they’re basically right next to you. Appetizer: crab cake — decent, not too heavy on the breading and their house tarter is better than most. Entrees: prime rib split cut & bf had the full prime rib — cooked to desired temperature; decent but not great. Sides: creamed spinach — I like! Because it’s not crazy heavy on the cream. Au gratin — also good. I probably like their a la carte items better than other steakhouses. Dessert: banana split — tastes like banana and ice cream lol. Ordered this because I had a craving for ice cream. Would only come back if it’s during restaurant week because the food is okay. But not worth paying full price for this place.

I have frequented The Prime Rib in Baltimore and Philadelphia and decided to give it a go in DC. I love The Prime Rib… Unfortunately, The Prime Rib DC came up short compared to its sister restaurants to the north. What is supposed to be a delicious, succulent slab of meat ends up being kind of dry and a bit chewy. I was shocked given I have probably been to The Prime Rib 6 prior times in other locations and have walked away with 5 stars of satisfaction. I may try one more time to see if it was just a fluke. However, I fear that even The Prime Rib cannot escape the effects of mediocrity I often encounter in DC dining.

**4.5 stars** Came Friday night(3÷7÷14) for my bf and I anniversary dinner and am more than happy with my choice! I love getting dressed up to go out for fancy dinners, so I was very excited. Remember that a dress jacket is required after 5 pm and if you don’t have one you can always pay to borrow one. And yes it is mandatory. The dining room feels intimate and cozy with the black walls and the lights dimly lit. There is live music that just makes the ambiance feel relaxing and gets you ready for some good food. Even the chairs were leather and you just sink right in it, which can make your food coma worst. It is just an overall quiet and elegant environment to be in. The one thing that made this experience great was not the food, it was Eric our waiter. He was extremely knowledgable about the food, while he was telling us about the popular items he used his hands to show us the sizes of each meat and thickness. He was passionate and enthusiastic about his job, making jokes with us and making us feel right at home. Super attentive and such positive energy. The service went beyond my expectations. This goes for the manager as well who was incredible and gave us a special surprise at the end of our meal. For an appetizer, we ordered the potato skins which they literally just fry the skins of the potato. The horseradish and creamy sour cream and dill sauce tasted delicious with the potato skins. We then ordered the caesar salad, which had to be probably the best caesar I’ve had. The dressing was creamy and it was throughout the salad, it wasn’t just a teeny tiny spoonful like alot of restaurants. The sauce just tasted different and it’s made eggs-free! Prime rib was exquisite. My bf ordered the full cut size and it was huge! It was juicy and marinated very well. No need for sauces at all! My filet mignon and fresh crab meat was simply amazing. The filet was juicy, tender and melt in your mouth type of meat. The bearnaise sauce was perfect on top of the fresh lump crab meat, as Eric said, «top notch crabs». As for the sides, the creamed spinach needed a little bit of pepper and salt. But oh man the sweet corn off the cob was so good. It had alot of butter and it was sweet and crunchy. I could have ate the corn by itself. For dessert, my bf ordered the crème brûlée and I couldn’t decide between the banana bread pudding and pecan pie so I let Eric pick. I am so glad he picked the pecan pie but it was incredible! The best pecan I’ve ever had. It was rich, the pecans were sweet but the pie overall wasn’t too heavy or too sweet. I honestly probably could have took a whole pecan pie home. The crème brûlée was OK but I’ve had better at other places. We were definitely the youngest people there… probably by at least 20 years. We felt fancy being there, but it was a wonderful experience. If you haven’t been here, come for a special ocassion or just come because you want some pecan pie. Ask for Eric if you do, he will have you laughing the whole night, making your experience 10 times better. Can’t wait to come back and try some more yummy things. Restaurant week maybe?!
