The Deli

I finally had a chance to try this place and I was not disappointed. I had the Mafioso. These sandwiches are huge! They aren’t skimpy with the meats or the cheeses. Wonderful! The service was fast and efficient. I hoped for a larger seating area. That, combined with their mayo-​heavy potato salad, leads me to subtract a star.

I was pretty excited to try this place after dragging my family, including a husband, two kids, and a complaining mother-​in-​law, from the Metro station, after driving an hour from northern VA, spending a half hour on various trains, and walking 6 miles sightseeing.
I have a reputation for taking us to places that are closed, either for the day or in one instance, permanently. Today, my husband was ribbing me most of the morning about whether The Deli would be open. «Yes! I checked. 11 – 4 today! I was even on their website looking at the menu, and confirmed there too!», I promised.
Imagine my surprise when we got there and they were… you guessed it… CLOSED. I get that this may be due to it being the day after Christmas, but for godssakes, put it on the website or something. Never, ever, ever again will I go to any business I find on Unilocal without calling first. Fool me once… and all that.
The only highlight of this debacle was the lunch we had at Zeitoun, directly across the courtyard. Delicious and more reasonably priced. Everything we had was amazing, and 5 of us ate for $ 40, kind of unheard of in DC. Full review for Zeitoun coming soon.

Darn good deli! The meat is high quality, portions are large, and the price is right.

Oh man, this place is a blessing to my soul. After sifting our way through the overpriced museum cafes and sketchy hot dog vendors, we finally found this place. Here’s the specs:
–Food is quality and fresh
–Prices are outstanding for the quality and quantity you receive
–Plenty of drink options
–A ton of menu items that vary in styles and flavors
–Friendly staff
You can’t go wrong with this place. Perfect lunch stop!

Love this place! Although if they were open when I used to live across the street I would probably be 300 lbs. I’ve had a handful of the sandwiches and the Itialian is my favorite. Parking is sparse and it’s a little hard to find if you’re not already familiar with the Watergate complex (it’s in the open shopping area downstairs), but well worth a visit to the this gem even from MD or VA.

The Deli is a weekly ritual for my staff and I. Authentic Italian cuts, fresh breads, fresh veggies you name it. Kind and professional staff, we cater from them once a month at least! You won’t be disappointed.

I wish I had found this place sooner. First, I went today and the customer service was amazing. The cashier greeted me kindly and then made recommendations when I told him it was my first time there. His recommendation was The Deli and thats what I got. It’s a sandwhich with mortadella, salami, and provolone cheese with lettuce, tomato, onions, oil, and a pickle. Vinegar, mustard, and mayonnaise are also available. The bread was out of this world being perfectly soft inside with the outside being just crusty enough without being hard (I can’t fully describe the texture other then just right sandwich bread). The value is outstanding. $ 6+tax for a fairly large sandwhich with 1 – 2 slices of each meat. The store also had a variety of candy including Kinder chocolates.
The cashier asked me to tell him how I liked it. This is what I would’ve said if I hadn’t eaten at home: Fabulous, Five Stars, I will 100% be back.

Tucked away at the bottom of the Watergate complex is this one of a kind sandwich shop. The menu is easy to read, the staff is helpful/​patient and the layout of the shop is accommodating to everyone, including those with wheelchairs/​crutches. My favorite things to buy, besides the tuna sub, are the chips and peppers that are on display on the shelves near the windows. Highly recommended.

Wow! Wow! Wow! An absolute mouthgasm.
My personal favorite is still the mafioso. But I’m not done trying all the subs offered.
It’s a bit out of the way — especially if you’re in MD or VA. Even with my GPS on foot it took me a while to realize it’s in the middle of the Watergate courtyard. But now I’m there EVERY chance I get.
Staff is friendly and accommodating (oil & vinegar on the side please so my sub doesn’t get soggy before I’m ready to indulge… no mayo please because, well because it’s a sub).
I wish they’d open in Silver Spring. I’ll bet they’d make a killing with a branch on Rockville Pike.

This deli is in the basement level shops in the Watergate complex. It took a while for my husband and me to locate. The Italian sandwich was good; the snacks they sell are quality. We randomly happened on this place, but would not make a special trip for their sandwiches.
They are open on Sundays. Which seemed to be less common for this area.

fantastic food, but gosh darn is this gem hidden.
i had the meatball sub and the marinara was phenomenal. my mom was with me and she basically stole half of my sandwich because she agreed.

A little tough to find but glad we did! Sandwiches were fresh and very delicious! Staff was nice and made us feel welcome. This wasn’t just a sandwich it was an experience!

This might be the best deli of all time. actually no. it definitely is. The only downside with the place is that the food is so good you end up sad when you finish. definitely check it out.

The Deli is the best place for quality Italian subs in DC. It’s family based and you definitely get that feel with the customer service. The owner goes above and beyond with whatever sandwich he’s making and if you want to personalize it– no problem.
I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a quality sub.

Delicious sandwiches and sides! I stop here every chance I’m in D.C. and sometimes can’t resist a detour just for a sandwich. The turkey with American cheese on their delicious soft bread is my fave! The staff is friendly, too.

My favorite food is deli subs. And this place nails it. The bread is always fresh, the subs have a perfect amount of meat on them and the variety of drinks is great. So many options to choose from, you can’t go wrong. The owner (Ro) is really nice and friendly. He has done an amazing job setting up this location and operating it. The deli has a great vibe as soon as you enter. I will be eating subs here pretty often!

This is the place to come if you are looking for quality meats in your sandwiches! I have tried a variety of the sandwiches but the Madd Italian is my favorite. It’s a huge sandwich that I could spread out for 2 – 3 meals but I can never stop and eat the whole thing in one sitting because it’s amazing!
Staff is always great and inviting, and unlike some places in the area they actually know what they’re doing around a sub (which makes the world of a difference). I will certainly be back for many more sandwiches and I recommend my friends come and check it out too.

The Deli is my personal favorite place to get an Italian style sandwich in all of the DMV.
Excellent service, fresh deli meats, perfect bread, and A-​1 oil and vinegar.
I am very happy to be able to finally get this inside of DC.
This establishment is worth the drive, walk, bus, or bike ride from any part of DC.
Can be a bit pricey for some of the sandwiches, but they are all worth every penny.

Love this place! Stopped by yesterday on Veteran’s day on the way to the concert on the mall. I grabbed a turkey pastrami with «the works’ and one of these amazing organic micro– brewery sodas serve.
The bread was perfectly toasted, plenty of veggies, not too much mayo or mustard, and there was a ton of meat! the service was quick and very friendly. The service was super quick and very friendly!
Menu has plenty to pick from between hot and cold subs and they have a bunch of home made side salads. I would definitively go back and get a sub from them again.
