This really is THE best sandwich place! So imagine my disappointment when I went to grab one of the best BLTs in town and found they were closed. Say it isn’t so! Did they move? And if so, I need to know where!

I really hate to write this but I feel like I have to. Usually I love The Best Sandwich Place but I just had to worst salad from there.(I know the sandwiches there are amazing but this is a salad review). The main reason why it was so bad was the chicken tasted like it was way past the expiration date. I feel like someone could get sick from eating that chicken it tasted so bad. Also it was drenched in dressing, the apples tasted old and mushy and even the walnut tasted funny. This is usually my favorite salad but it was definitely lacking today. Not to mention that I could get an identical salad around the block at Chop’t for a better price, where I have never encountered a bad tasting salad. You might just want to stick to the sandwiches here. Don’t even waste your time with the salads.

Turkey rueben. Do it. Whether on rye or french bread this sandwich does not disappoint. I highly recommend trying out their variety of sandwiches. Definitely worth the trip. I did try a special(best cobb sandwich — in a pita) not really the best but the flavors were good. I highly recommend and I believe they cater as well.

With the help of other reviews, this place was easy to find. When I entered the restaurant, I was surprised at how nice it was. Ordering was quick and easy. The best part, the sandwich was delicious! I know I’ll be back. Note: Not such a great place for vegetarians. There are two veggie sandwiches: the spinach melt and a mixed roasted veggie sandwich. Also, there is a tuna salad sandwich(really a pita), which is very good for you pescatarians.

This place is awesome for several reasons: 1. It’s hidden so a lot of people don’t know it’s there 2. Because of 1 it’s never crowded 3. Huge selection of sandwiches so whatever you are in the mood for they probably have(some salads too) 4. Fresh turkey and roast beef and ingredients are really good 5. Price is average I’d say just under $ 10 for sandwich + chips + soda I’ve tried several things and always been pleased. I have to say though my favorite thing is that I know I can run over there if I need to grab something quick and it will be good and won’t take forever. Definite good find if you work in Farragut.

Across from the Starbucks in Washington Harbour, this spot is a great lunch place. The deli offers a variety of sandwich choices(41) and has a separate salad bar as well. The servers carve the meet in front of you for your sandwich and make your salads as requested. My munster turkey sandwich contained a hefty portion of turkey on fresh wheat bread. I was very impressed, though the person in front of me on line thought there was an insufficient amount of hummus on his bread and, when he asked for more, the server didn’t seem to understand what he was saying. The roasted turkey and mozzarella is absolutely delicious and is on very crusty bread. However, STAYAWAY from the greek sandwich. I had it this week and it was absolutely gross. I guess I had expected a gyro-esque sandwich, but this was an open sandwich with TONS of «special sauce»(that was gross) that made the bread completely soggy. It was overpowering and messy to eat. TBSP offers so many great choices, so skip this one. There is ample place to sit. Note that the place is a bit disorganized; trying to figure out who has ordered, who has not, and where to go is not always intuitive. Just ask; people are nice. Prices a tad high. Sandwiches range from $ 7 to $ 9, not including drinks or chips. However, high prices are to be expected in Georgetown. The Best Sandwich Place also offers a variety of breakfast sandwiches.

I have to give this place 5 stars because whenever I have worked in the area over the past 4 years, I have to force myself to go to other places for lunch. It’s a bit tricky to find, tucked deep down a hallway past an ATM and the now-defunct Borders. The nearly endless list of specialty sandwiches can be overwhelming at first, but once you lock in a few favorites, the Best Sandwich Place lives up to its name. A few of my go-tos: Grilled Chicken Fajita(comes in a pita, huge!), Chicken & Bacon Wrap, Dave’s Club, 42nd Street. All sandwiches can be accompanied with a bag of chips and a can of soda for $ 1, which makes the full meal total just under $ 10. It may sound pricey for lunch, but it’s tough to beat that in the area and still get the deliciousness of freshly carved meats and a carefully prepared sandwich. The salads aren’t as mind-blowing as the sandwiches, but that’s why it isn’t called the Best Salad Place. Give it a try if you’re tired of the same old Potbelly and Au Bön Pain lunches.

Ugh. I went with colleagues who recommended it, but I had to toss a substantial chunk of my sandwich in the trash. Ordered the roast beef roll-up. I have to say that the ingredients were of good quality, and I give the place credit for that. However, the cacophany of flavors/textures tells me that the creator of the menu is not a trained chef or anyone who has a sense of what flavors and textures go together. Inside the wrap was roast beef, sliced cucumbers, feta cheese, sweet peppers(the green pickled kind), lettuce… and I can’t recall what else. Despite the roast beef being fresh(and good), the subtlety of the roast beef was completely overpowered by the pickled sweetness of the peppers and the watery mush of cucumber-feta cheese. What on earth possessed the chef to come up with such an atrocious combination?! Big time sandwich FAIL.

This place is tasty and high quality… but a tad overpriced. If you like french bread subs, this place has the best french bread rolls in DC. Or, at least the best I have found. I get the turkey with cranberry sauce, avocado and LTO. Always killer. Blows potbelly’s out of the water. On a side note, DC needs more Jimmy John’s.

Sure saying you’re best is a bold claim that’s really gonna raise expectations and if you’re gonna say it you better be able to back it up. Best’s doesn’t really do that but sans the bold name it’s pretty good. I’ve had a turkey pita and a breakfast burrito. Both solid choices that with just a little tweaking could really get to 4 star category. My turkey pita had pretty taste meat but the sauce was spread so unevenly that I took more than a few sauce less bites. The breakfast burrito just needed some salsa to moisten things up. Not huge problems but they’re the difference between a place that’s ok and a place that’s the good, much less the best. It’s hard to find since it’s nestled away in one of the many office buildings that make up farragut but if you’re close by you can do worse.

So I was wrong. Honestly, the salads aren’t as good as all that. The caesar salad is pretty tasty, but the lettuce is often on the watery side, and the whole salad just gets a little tiring to eat after a while. The sandwiches, on the other hand, really are the best sandwiches.(And the delivery mechanisms seem to have gotten much faster and smoother over the past six months– or maybe it is just that they spoil the regulars.) My favorite sandwich is still the Italian cold cut(with hot peppers). Some days I dream of that sandwich. But they have a wide variety of other tasty options too– things involving both pickles and melted cheese, for example.

Another Unilocal suggestion that was worth listening to. I went here today for lunch and there was no line, but things seem to move pretty quick anyway. I ordered the Smoked Turkey Bacon sandwich, which was delicious. Fresh meat, awesome bread that was toasted, and it came with a pretty decent pickle. The things removing one star from this place were the cost and the fact that the sandwich wasn’t that big, but I was full regardless. So thank you Unilocalers, I’ll return here. Preferably on a day when it isn’t pouring.

I’m glad to see there is 10 other reviews on here, so I’m not the only person who has ever been here. This place is really the best little sandwich shop in Downtown DC. It’s hidden, which I like because it is like an adventure and its a big secret. A friend who works in that building took me there once, and I’ve made it a regular lunch stop. Most sandwiches are like $ 6 and for $ 1 more you get a bag of chips and a can of soda… Pretty standard However, the sandwich quality is where all similarities end. This is no Subway. Turkey reuben with turkey breast cut right off the bird a la Thanksgiving? Check. Meatball sub on a fresh roll covered in diced tomatoes and oven-melted cheese? Check. Haven’t had the salads, but I’m sure they are great. The service is great, and even in peak hours you can get in and out in no more than 5 minutes. Not much to not like, although the hot pepper topping was a bit bitter for my taste, but still a great experience. If I didn’t grow up around some unreal NYC Italian delis, this place would earn a 5-star rating.

I’ve loved this little place ever since I moved to Washington in 2004 and worked in an office 10 floors above it. When my company moved to Vermont Ave. NW everyone was really sad not to be able to see Dave and his crew of friendly folks every day. Some of us would venture the four blocks down K Street just to pay a visit. Very good sandwiches that are consistent in quality. A good selection of rotating stuff not on the regular menu that keeps it interesting. Breakfast choices abound, too — from bagels to breakfast burritos. And the chocolate-chip cookies are to die for. I think they’re actually Toll House(I saw the tub one time), but they are always consistently chewy in that perfectly chewy cookie way. Nab them early because if you get there after about 1:00 they’re all gone. Address is 1801 K but enter on L Street next to the Borders and the Bank of America ATM. It’s down a little hallway past the shoe-shine/dry cleaners.

This place is in the hallway next to Borders beyond the Bank of America ATM. I don’t know i should tell you all about this place. I would hate to go there one day and have them sold out of the Daves Club on French Bread that I have had every month for the last five years. The food is always French and interesting. The staff is always smiling. The prices are a little more than Subway but it is worth splurging once in a while! Give it a whirl, you wont be disappointed! Brian C. Reinoehl

***3.5 stars*** Okay, so «Best» is pushing it a little. While not the best sandwich I’ve ever had, it’s probably about the best you’ll get in the Golden Triangle short of going to a sit-down restaurant. As has been said, the choices are almost overwhelming. I doubt that you’d seriously walk out of here empty-handed. I settled on an Italiano(your typical Italian-style sub). What’s nice is they let you have this sandwich(and possibly others) hot or cold. I opted for hot, and they shoved it in one of those warmers you see in Potbellys or Quiznos. My total came to almost $ 11 for a sandwich and a bottle of Diet Mountain Dew. I found that to be a bit pricey for lunch, even for downtown DC. While I know you’ve gotta pay more to get better quality, I don’t think the price: quality ratio is totally justified(and if I’m going to spend this much on lunch, I’d just as soon get a fresh gyro from the Greek Deli). I have to say that while the sandwich didn’t totally blow me away, it was one of the better ones I’ve had from a takeout deli in DC. I’d certainly go back to try another one of their sandwiches(they’ve actually run out of menu space on the signboard, and have additional meals posted on the deli counter. If you can’t find something tempting here, there’s no helping you.) Also, it appears that they take credit cards now, as I saw a Visa/Mastercard sign on the cash register. The verdict: you could certainly get cheaper sandwiches elsewhere, but in terms of quality, they do seem to have more going for them compared to the average sandwich shop in the area(granted, that’s not setting the bar terribly high, but…). If you’ve ever found yourself standing outside your office trying to figure out where to go for lunch because all your usual haunts suck, try here. Hint: as others have said, it may be a little hard to find. The easiest way is to go to the Borders on 18th and K. You’ll find a Bank of America ATM in an enclave to the right of Borders. Go past the ATM and through the doors. You’ll pass some Asperger’s-style seating for the Borders café on your left, and a frame shop on your right. Best Sandwich Place is the next entrance on your right past the frame shop.

This joint gets an award for truth in advertising. I’ve never found a place with a pleasant atmosphere in this part of town, so the airport terminal feel doesn’t bother me. The choice in sandwiches was a little overwhelming, but I had the Spicy Chicken with Arugula sandwich. The chicken was tender, though not especially spicy, and the arugula a little limp. Everything else was in perfect order. Give it a try!

Thanks Unilocal, for pointing me to a new place to try! There is no way I would ever have found this place without the helpful directions from Allison M. The address is a little misleading as it is closer to the L Street side(where Borders and the Bank of America ATM are located), and it seems like the K Street entrance is currently under construction anyway. And it is actually inside the building, so it isn’t visible from the outside. Just follow Allison’s directions and it is across the hall from the Borders. The place is very nice and cozy. They have a looong list of sandwiches and other things available. A lot of things sounded good and worth trying. I got the turkey sandwich, which is what Thanksgiving leftovers aspire to be — warm, juicy turkey, cranberry relish, avocado, cucumbers, and carrot salad? or something. Delicious. The price is pretty standard DC lunch prices and the sandwich was huge. I could only eat half. I can see why this place would get mobbed, if you knew where it is.

As Lucy Z. said, you would never know that this place existed, except for the skeet sign outside next to Borders and in front of the lonely Bank of America ATM. Go through the double doors and down the hallway, and welcome yourself to(genuinely) the best sandwich place. Their signature is the fresh, hand-carved turkey that you can get on one of a million different sandwiches. The menu can be overwhelming, but be sure to check out their specials — they are always interesting and yummy. If you’re craving a taste of Thanksgiving, try the original turkey sandwich with all the fixings — cranberry sauce included. Also great is the Best Cobb sandwich, super delicious and served in a massive pita. Sandwiches run around $ 8. While not a steal, they are well worth their weight and quality. *PS* They are a cash only establishment, so come prepared or use that handy BofA ATM out front.

I stumbled upon this place because it’s located on the ground floor of my office building. It looks like a small place, but it actually has abundant seating and it’s packed around lunch time. I normally get my salad fix here because they have my favorite«Super-Lite blend»(mixed greens, grilled chicken, walnuts, crumbled feta, apples, grapes, croutons, etc). The name is a bit of a misnomer, because what gets handed to me is probably 1.5 lbs worth of food(but at least it’s healthy!). The same goes to the other kinds of salads they offer(e.g. Pomegranate, chicken caesar, etc.) Full disclosure — I’ve never actually had the sandwiches here but take my word — there’s a long line here during most lunch hours.
