Thanos Kristallis, DDS

My wife went here for an appointment once in 2011, after which we changed to a different dentist. This was not due to any particular problem with the services received, but because we had moved out of DC shortly after. Since then the office has repeatedly harassed us for payment for a second visit that never occurred. I have talked to them to explain that this visit did not happen, that it is impossible for us to have attended an appointment on the date they claim, and that it is clear a clerical error was made. Nonetheless, I have received a letter from a collection agency.
These people are fiends. Do not schedule an appointment here if you value the contents of your wallet.

Dr Kristallis recommended completely unnecessary and expensive procedures. They also told me that they were in my insurance network and then later I found out that they only accepted my insurance and were not part of the network. This is partially my fault for not double checking directly with the insurance company, but it would have been nice to have an upfront answer.
After completing one expensive procedure, I got a second opinion from a different dentist who said it was completely unnecessary on the other tooth and it could just be filled.
Also the office won’t stop harassing me for another appointment even though I’ve told them I’ve found a new dentist. Most recently they are calling to tell me that I should be maximizing my insurance benefits and come back. Well I’m sorry, my insurance benefits have a co-​pay and I really only want dental treatments that I actually need, not extra nonsense to try max out my insurance.

Dr. Valle is the Best dentist I have been to. He asked me multiple times if I was comfortable or needed a break. The procedure was completely painless and not even any judgement having not been to a dentist in 2 years. The whole staff is incredibly nice and patient. They made sure I could get to work on time with an early appointment. The massage chair isn’t a bad oerk either.

I give this place one star only because «no stars» is not an option.
This place is unethical. First, they told me they did not accept my dental insurance which I found out later that they did. Second, they then proceeded to make me pay upfront the total amount of my bills and then took over two months to pay me for the amount my insurance company did not cover. Third, it took me harassing them to make them pay, with responses from them that included «the doctor needs to talk to you himself», «the check is in the mail», «I can’t tell you why you haven’t been paid», «the doctor isn’t in right now; he will call you back».
It makes me wonder if the treatments I had were really necessary.
I will never go back to this place again and recommend no one else has the misfortune to deal with this behavior.

Don’t be fooled by this place. Dr. Kristallis runs a horrible office. I have «porous» teeth, so Dr. Kristallis and I agreed to fill 2 cavities, and wait to see if the other 2 cavities got worse by my next teeth cleaning in 6 months. Then, he proceeded to disregard our agreement and fill all four without my consent. If he had insisted on filling all four, I would have gotten a second opinion. So then I was left paying for 4 fillings instead of two.
His office staff called me at least 4 times over the next few months to schedule my next appointment despite me firmly stating I wished to be removed from their contact list, permanently.
Then I get a call that I owe $ 220 and they are closing out their outstanding balances. First I had heard of this outstanding balance! On top of that, several mistakes from the receptionist including not sending paperwork, calling for the wrong patient, it goes on…
Last, the office manager left Dr. Kristallis a note to call me back regarding my complaints. Of course, I never got a call back.

This dental office is in a good location. The staff are efficient and professional. The office is modern and pleasant.

Dr. Kristallis is the BEST. I had come in twice for cleanings, which I always found to be fast and efficient — much appreciated coming from someone who only has an hour-​long lunch break. My best experience by far was during a filling, and who in their right mind finds getting a filling enjoyable?!
The massage chair was super relaxing, and Dr. Kristallis assured me that it would be quick and easy. He didn’t lie, I was out of the office within 30 minutes of walking through the door! Not to mention, his dental assistant (I apologize for forgetting his name) was also fantastic and adjusted my nightguard for me all within that 30 minutes. I’d recommend Dr. K to anyone and everyone I know!

There have been three occasions where I have been motivated to write a Unilocal review out of anger. I won’t go into the previous two, but best believe, the dental office of Dr. Thanos Kristallis is the third one.
My problem with this establishment is their complete lack of professionalism. I am on the hunt for a new dentist as a result of my experiences with this office.
I have been fortunate to only need a dentist for general upkeep and bi-​yearly cleanings. I had the same dentist in Virginia for years. But when I moved to DC, I needed to find a new one. I landed on this office because it was close to my residence.
I have had two cleanings here thus far and had an appointment for a third in December, 2013. The emphasis is on the word HAD. This is because this office has repeatedly canceled my appointments, which are always made well in advance. The cancelations have been numerous. My most recent canceled appointment was a reschedule of a previous appointment which this office canceled the day before the appointment. The reasons for these cancelations have always been «because the office will be closed.» This is interesting because my appoints have always been within their established business hours and, again, they are always made months in advance.
I am on the road approximately 80% of the year and my calendar is always booked. This makes it difficult for me to get medical appointments and is the reason why I always schedule my appointments well in advance. So when appointments are arbitrarily canceled, and I am asked to reschedule, it makes me have to do calendar gymnastics. I could understand if this happened once, or even twice. But this has happened with every single appointment I’ve made with this dental office. I don’t know what the real reasoning is, but I can only speculate that this office simply closes its doors when they feel it doesn’t benefit them to be open.
Regardless of the reason, this establishment has habitually shown a complete lack of respect for my time and a general sense of haughtiness that I will continue to tolerate it.
They are wrong.

Probably the best dental practice I’ve ever been to and I’m such a firm believer in this, I recommend everyone I know to Dr. Kristallis. His staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and do a great job during cleanings. The Doctor is very pleasant. Happy to have found him (through a referral) and will continue to send everyone his way! If you’re looking for a dentist, look no further!

I grew up with parents who were terrified of the dentist and rarely brought me. Because of that, it had been years since I’d been to the dentist for a cleaning or anything. With Dr. Kristallis, though, I’m totally fine going every six months. His office is very nice and very high-​tech. Procedures are painless but VERY effective. He got rid of my stains without any scraping or harsh treatment! I wish he were my general practitioner!

Dr. Krisatallis is awesome! He takes all the time you need to help you understand what needs to be done. He also gives you many options and his office staff works quickly to get paperwork taken care of. His office is state of the art and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. K!
