One of the few places in D.C. for a great selection of poetry, plus a great webstore. Thanks!

Great selection, great food, great atmosphere and Tuesday night open mic’s are a ‘must hit’ for visitors or DC residents. As a high school history teacher always looking for good browsing material that will spark ideas about what to bring back to the classroom, I really value quality bookstores with such great titles that support social justice education, youth centered teaching and global learning. Ownership by ensures that the selection will be of interest to me and relevant to what I want to do in the classroom. I’ve spent two summers in DC and BBP has been a highlight of both.

When I was in college in Michigan, I was always so excited to go the Teaching for Change bookstore when I got back home to the DC area. With independent bookstores closing all over the country, it is even more essential that we support this bookstore. It not only is run by a non-profit with strong ties to parents, students & teachers in the community through its other programs, but it offers the kinds of tools for non profit workers & teachers that I have never seen in any other bookstore. I know from countless customers I’ve spoken to that the majority of states in the U.S. and abroad do not have anything comparable, which is why Teaching for Change is a mecca for people who visit DC who want to find reading they can’t get anywhere else. Also, I’m a huge fan of fiction and poetry, and at this bookstore I can find books that are the rare combination of being compelling page-turners & educational in terms of people’s histories, current global conditions, and aspirations for future change.
