I eat here about twice a week. The sandwiches are amazing and I consistently have cravings for their roasted pork and chicken cutlet sandwiches. The broccoli rabe is softy and garlicky. For the lighter side, their turkey is very nice, almost shredded but not the deli sliced style which makes it seem fresher. The bread is crusty and fresh — I normally go wheat with everything else in my life but their original seeded Italian bread is so good that I default with that. The risotto balls are amazing and unlike anything else I have found outside of Italy. If you use level up or the Taylor app, you get a free dollars off after every order, sort of like a perpetual 9% off. I wish they had more salad options(like putting their cutlets or pork on a mixed greens bed) and sides(I’d love to have fries with a sandwich). And, they are open late so it is a great spot for drunk food and a good alternative to pizza.

Meh. I had a roast beef sandwich and all I could taste was oil, vinegar and bread. No thanks.

Really love the staff that works there, and on average, this has been a go-to spot. BUT: The last two times I’ve ordered the Broad sandwich, with breaded chicken, the chicken has been seriously, strangely chewy. The texture is.. . off, with an odd flavor. Wonder if they’re overcooking it – or microwaving it? One more time, and I might have to start hiking up to G instead.

Most of the sandwiches are pretty good, and the risotto balls are excellent.

Taylor is consistently good for the most part. I have tried quite a few of their sandwiches and most have been good. My absolute favorite is the cheesesteak. It is hands down the best item I have had. The south is great as well… if it isn’t overcooked. I have gotten this sandwich before and the chicken was so over fried it was almost black and it was hard as a rock. Order at your own risk. My husband likes the meatball and the chicken salad. Some of their menu items are seasonal so don’t get too attached. If you find one you love, it could be gone soon. I don’t love that aspect but it keeps things fresh and is part of their brand I guess. This particular location has a really weird smell all the time. It almost smells like dirty mop water. So try to get in and get out.

This place was all good except the goods. The food did not deliver. I had the Chicken Cutlet Vine sandwich and it sucked. The meat was not tasty, the bread wasn’t baked well, the whole thing was just not nice. It just plain sucked and I was hoping for so much more. The service and the cookie I had there was rather decent though. I’ll probably give it another shot before quitting cold turkey on this place.

Good bread, good vegetarian options, good summery sandwich and salad specials(with strawberries!). Prices are right in line with the other«gourmet» sandwich places in the area. While they’re not the only place in the vicinity that serves Boylan’s sodas, they’re the only one(of the ones I’ve tried) that serves their diet root beer, which I like. My one complaint: I ordered their lunch special combo(chips and soda) and only realized later that I didn’t get the price break.

My fav sandwiches in DC… Yeah, I said it! Love the option of grilled or breaded chicken and the risotto balls(w/extra marinara) are sooooo good. Not to mention the customer service is noticeable welcoming, friendly and they aim to please. I went recently and they messed up my salad(forgot the avocado), they were so quick to fix it with a lil extra love. I will be back, again and again. *Personal favs: Columbus, Broad Street, Risotto Balls. try it, I dare ya! 8÷26… went back again today… the Love Sandwich and Seasonal Corn Risotto Balls… the flavors… OMG!!!

Edit: there was a straight up mouse that ran in front of the customers as we waited for our sandwiches. The sandwiches are still great but that’s just preposterous Taylor Gourmet is perfectly situated on 14th street, right next to the Trader Joe’s. I got the race street turkey sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie, both of which were delicious. Their sandwiches are large and flavorful, and their staff are friendly. I would definitely recommend this as a place to grab a bite with friends before heading out to U street for the night.

I hit this spot up regularly for lunch. Their chicken cheesesteak and beef cheesesteaks are best around. Only downside is that these two sandwiches are large size only. I’ve had several other subs which have all been good as well. Risotto balls are addicting.

I ended up here at Taylor for a quick drink(root beer) and a chat. I didn’t order anything to eat but I def enjoyed this little restaurant. The staff was very very friendly and very outgoing, it was pretty cool just watching them work. They work hard and they do their best! I will be returning in the near future, woohoo. Next time I’ll order something yummy and call it a night. **Root beer def hit the spot.

FROMFEBRUARY2015: Sandwiches here used to be so good. What happened? Because it was a chilly day, I asked for guidance on which sandwiches were hot. So with that guidance, I ordered a regular Reading to go. There is absolutely nothing hot about this sandwich. I could feel that it was cold in the wrapper, but I didn’t have the energy to say anything. The roast beef and caramelized onions were refrigerator COLD!!! Not even the little plastic container of warm au juice could make this a hot sandwich… They were not very generous with the roast beef, so it was more like a bread sandwich(even though the bread is very good). With Amsterdam Falafel and so many taco options now in the area, I’m not sure how often I’ll venture here anymore… If I want a sandwich, I definitely will head to Blind Dog.

This place came highly recommended and I need to grab a sandwich for our pianist who is currently in rehearsal at the Lincoln Theater only two blocks away… All I can say is, wow what a fine from the five to the friendliness of Paris the guy who doesn’t just take your order is what makes your food to the nicely right menu with very creative options… Well let’s say I’ll be back tomorrow!

Taylor Gourmet, you are delicious but is it worth all the shenanigans to actually get you? I’m a big fan of the Columbus Boulevard and the cheesesteak #2. Soft bread or wheat bread, I don’t care. Always delicious. A good friend of mine is a die-hard Gourmet fan and lives by the Vine Street Expressway. I’m pretty convinced that any of Taylor’s sandwiches will be a good choice. My biggest problem with Taylor is the customer service. Poor customer service, not in the way that any one was rude to me but there just doesn’t seem to be any order to their chaotic sandwichmaking. I once waited 10 minutes between getting one sandwich and another.(I was picking up for multiple people). On a completely separate occasion my boyfriend and I ordered deliver(the hangover was just too great to walk down 14th street), and it took an hour and a half when we were told 45 minutes. If you can stand the mediocre customer service, yes, go to Taylor — President Obama did! If you are impatient and can’t stand the inconsistent craft of making sandwiches, better head on down to Subway.

When Taylor Gourmet first opened on H Street NE, everyone was talking about them as if they were the best sandwich shop to hit DC. Then, when they opened on 14th Street last year under Yoga District, all the yogis were excited because they thought they could stop by and get some fresh eats after yoga class. We quickly discovered though that Taylor Gourmet did not have a vegan sandwich. Further, when we asked them if they’d use vegan cheese, they told us they would and asked us to check back, but when we did, we found that they never purchased any. After a few months, we all gave up. But, now there is a vegan sandwich on the menu — the Lehigh Avenue. It is named after a street in Philadelphia as are all of the sandwiches. I was excited because it was cauliflower-based like the one at G, which is amazing, so I figured it would be just as good and on vegan bread, unlike the one at G. But, when I opened it up, it looked like there wasn’t much on it. It was made on a deliciously fresh, seeded hoagie roll with white bean hummus, arugula, roasted cauliflower and spicy red pepper dressing. Sounds good, huh? But, it turned out to be meh. The roasted cauliflower tasted like it was roasted in the morning and was cold and soggy. The hummus seeped into the bread and wasn’t that flavorful and the dressing was just okay. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. I also got a Puck’s natural soda in Black Cherry. That was the highlight of my meal. The coolest thing about the shop was really its décor. It has exposed brick walls, wood furniture, and buckets as lights that hang from the ceiling. It’s a fun atmosphere. But despite the atmosphere, unfortunately, I would not say that it is worth visiting Taylor Gourmet as a vegan. I think that if they put more hummus on the Lehigh Avenue, roasted the cauliflower fresh for each hoagie, and loaded the bun with cauliflower, it would be great. But, as they are making it now, it just isn’t. They also offer an Indian Curry Lentil soup, which is vegan as well. I hope to give them another try in the near future. In the meantime, Taylor Gourmet, let us know if you improve on the sandwich. We really want this relationship to work.

I’m very hit or miss with Taylor Gourmet. In general, I like the concept of these sandwich shops, but this one doesn’t really follow through. Taylor Gourmet definitely has a large menu from which to choose, which always helps. But if you watch those shows like«Restaurant Impossible,» you know that the more options you have, the less you are able to really be good at any one dish/meal. My issue with this place there’s just too much bread. When you use a huge bread roll or hoagie, you really have to put a lot of meat on that, or else there’s a lot of empty space and feel like you got ripped off. So while I have been to Taylor Gourmet a few times just to pop in and get a sandwich, it’s not something I crave after being gone from home a lot. I think the most people, Taylor Gourmet is drunk food. There’s always people here at midnight and 1AM, here and at Amsterdam Falafel.

I’ve seen Taylor Gourmet on my Levelup app times and times before but finally came across the shop on my way home after soulcycling. Decided to stop in for a quick Lehigh Ave wrap to go which ended up taking way longer than a usual sit down meal. After waiting 20 mins for my order, I finally went up to the counter to double check if somehow I missed my name being called. The worker behind the sandwich assembling line was terse and snappy. I stood back in my corner and waited some more. When I finally received my order, I immediately noticed the oil that was dripping out from the side of the sandwich wrapper. I wasn’t given a bag so I had to somehow grab onto this oily mess home. I was hoping the taste would at least make up for the not so great experience but I was wrong. The tortilla wrap was rubbery and stale. The roasted cauliflower was so salty. It had the saddest smear of dry, crusty white bean hummus and zero trace of red pepper sauce. After one bite, I was done. Although Levelup was offering free $ 5 credit, spending even a penny on this was a waste. Perhaps I should have gone for their more popular, signature sandwiches. But with the service and presentation, I would rather skip a meal than to come back to this place.

The heroes here are amazing. I’ve had the Locust street and the Race street and if you are torn between the two, go with the Race street. It is soooo good. I’ve also had the Ritner street and had no complaints. The roast beef was delicious. The Benjamin Franklin with breaded chicken is also delicious; although i’ve never had it the original way; I ordered it with mozz instead of provolone. The tomato sauce is slightly spicy and so good. The Philly Landfill is also amazing, but I think the roasted red peppers overpower the meats a little bit, so next time I would get it without the peppers or ask for a little less. Definitely get the large size because even if you cannot finish it at once, you’ll definitely want to eat it later. I honesty do not know why people are up in arms over the«service» here. You order at the register, they make your food and they call your name when it’s done. Boom. What’s the problem? Also, the guys at the counter are always nice.

I’m very concerned. Reading, seeing and hearing what folks in this area consider to be good or great sandwiches, it can be a little shocking. As a Northeast transplant, specifically Western New York(716– what whhaaat!), sandwiches are an art form, and for some… a cult religion. So, given the many atrocities that pass for sandwiches around these parts, I’m always up for tips on new places. I’ve read some positive things about Taylor Gourmet before; then again I’ve also read positive things about many other places that have stolen my money quicker than a gold digger messing with a pro athlete(cue Basketball Wives). Then, a close friend of mine started singing Taylor’s praises. Hmmm, ok… I’ll give it a shot. Taylor Gourmet is a local chain of sandwich shops. They focus on quality products and gourmet twists on their culinary creations. This place also takes its inspiration from Philadelphia style hoagies. The décor is what I would consider modern basic. There was nothing overly spectacular going on but the color schemes added a certain hipness I suppose. The service was actually really good. My order taker was really helpful, even coming from behind the counter to go over the menu(which is posted on one of side walls) and answering all my questions. I tried the Risotto Balls, the Cherry Street and Broad Street. The Risotto Balls are awesome. Large, plump and fried to a nice golden crisp, the outside offered great crunch while the inside contained treasures in the form of cheesy rice goodness that was packed with flavor. The marinara dipping sauce needs work due to being bland and watery. The Cherry Street features roast beef, cherry pepper garlic sauce, arugula and brie. I requested a wheat hoagie roll. The bread was a little dry and more importantly, seemed to overwhelm the sandwich. The roast beef was as rare as rare could be, but was tender and seasoned. The cherry pepper garlic sauce packs major flavor with surprising kick. The problem is there was too much sauce on it. So much so that it was the only thing I could taste. The Broad Street features chicken(your choice of grilled or breaded), broccoli rabe and sharp provolone, on a wheat hoagie roll as well. Like with my other sandwich, this one was also kinda dry. The flavor combinations were decent and I’m a big broccoli rabe fan. Unfortunately, the sandwich was bland. The pricing is decent, especially the sandwiches, which are close to $ 7.00 for regular size and $ 9.90 for a large. The regular size is like 6 – 8 inches and stacked pretty nicely. Doubtful if I’d ever return but if I do, I’ll bypass the hoagies and get a couple orders of those risotto balls.
