I know that there are a lot of Filipino Unilocalers out there(Hello Amanda S. and Abigail) but seldom do you come across a Unilocal review for a Filipino restaurant in the District. Why not you ask? Well there isn’t many… unless you count Karaōke Idol in Falls Church but let’s face it that place is totally sketch. Tarsier is a new venture by Chef Tom Constantino(from Hook and Occidental) who aims to bring a modern twist to classic Filipino dishes and my God is it delicious! My favorites so far include: Lugaw — Commonly known as congee or rice porridge, Tarsier tops their version with braised chicken, crushed chicharon, green onions, quail eggs and a heavenly chili oil. I literally have dreams about this. Lechon Sliders — Think spit roasted pork chunks on a homemade pan de sal roll and datu puti sauce. I don’t know why my Lola never thought of this before but this is pretty amazing. Pancit Dumplings — Pancit is a traditional noodle dish that Tarsier stuffs into wonton wrappers, deep fries and tops with lechon chunks(lechon is a big deal in Filipino food) and a sweet chili sauce. Again, amazing. Tarsier does not have a brick-and-mortar store yet but they are constantly doing pop-up shops all around town. The best way to keep in contact with their events is through their Facebook page .
