I mainly wanted to come here so I could enjoy brunch out in the courtyard, but unfortunately it was closed when I came. The interior was pretty stuffy so I was extra bummed. However, the food itself was great. My boyfriend and I both got the egg with an English muffin, home fries, and choice of meat. This was $ 9, which really isn’t very steep at all. The service was a little slow but the entire restaurant was full so it’s understandable. I’d definitely want to return for dinner, or to eat outside!

Mehhhh for its price, I don’t think this place is worth it. Service is reallllly slow so if you are impatient, this place might terrify you. It took about 15 mins to get a server to finally ask what we are gonna get, and another 30 mins to get our food. I mean it wasn’t completely packed and there were a lot of servers walking/passing by, but no one seemed to care that we were just sitting down and staring at them to order our food. I ordered Omelette and my bf ordered steak. The taste? What is so special about this place anyway? I was so lost. lol I honestly think I can cook exactly the same at home. We decided to try their donuts since that is what they are known for. I mean it tasted good(It’s sugar coated donuts how bad possibly can it be) but it wasn’t something special we came here for. If I crave donuts, I would rather go to Krispy Kreme… Their patio area looked nice. But I decided to stay inside because it was over 93 degree. Their bathroom is terrible– there are only 2 bathroom stalls and there was a long line to use the bathroom. They need to make more bathrooms considering their restaurant is pretty large.

This lovely, warm, elegant restaurant is on the first floor of a boutique hotel. Only three or four blocks from Dupont Circle. It is very old-school. I am told it is been at the same location for over three decades. The food was great,-we both had seafood. The service was excellent and attentive. In the winter there is a large fire in the fireplace in the bar. Great place for a quiet conversational evening.

Top notch brunch spot in DC. The brunch menu is diverse, original and definitely provides a healthy serving that will keep you held over till late evening, no joke Our party’s order consisted of the chicken and waffles, the eggs benedict, the goose egg, the cheese grits with fried oysters, Qatayef(Ka-ta-yef), which is Syrain style pancakes and an order of the corned beef hash with potatoes. I tried them all and was floored at the perfection. Inspired by others on here we got 4 doughnuts for the table. Everyone was speechless. They are fresh, pillow-like, and melt on your tongue. The bloody’s are killer. The mix is made in house and nails the flavor balance; tons of spice. Only if this place was closer to home.

The food quality was so so. I got the blacken fish tacos. They didn’t use the correct soft taco shells. The hosts service wasn’t friendly, Barely eye contact when we walked in. Host didn’t say bye when we were leaving even when he wasn’t busy. I requested an outdoor table and at first they seem hesitated to give us the table. My overall experience wasn’t pleasant. I would not recommend this place.

Issues with Substitution Policy on Menu. Vegetarian. This place used to be my #1 choice for brunch but now I’ll never return here again. I tried to order their Omelette which has bacon on top. I’m vegetarian so I asked the waiter if they could hold the bacon and he told me it’s against their policy. Their policy is on the menu. I was a little bit shocked that I couldn’t have bacon withheld from my omelette since I was a vegetarian. I inquired if the food was pre made and he stated no. Additionally the waiter told me if I said I had a food allergy then it would be different and they would of withheld the bacon. So the waiter seemed a bit confused as to being a vegetarian vs having a food allergy. Anyways I decided not to eat. To credit Tabard Inn, the waiter eventually went to the chef and asked if he could customize my order and it was approved; however by this point I already lost my appetite dealing with it. Overall I’m not coming back here ever again.

Our brunch at the Inn was totally sub-par. My girlfriend and I had the frittata that was unlike any I have had before. First of all, they are pre-made and then reheated. What higher end restaurant doesn’t make their egg dishes to order? Secondly, this frittata was about 1 ½ to 2 inches thick and totally disgusting. I don’t know where the chef went to culinary school but a frittata is not suppose to be 2 inches thick. UPDATE We have had frittata’s at the Tabard Inn before, as well as other restaurants, so we know exactly how they are suppose to be prepared. We have always enjoyed them at the Inn. Our frittata’s on this occasion were ice cold when we received them so we did tell our waiter that they were cold as well as not prepared properly. We sent them back and received new orders that were only lukewarm and still improperly prepared. Our waiter told us that they are premade so someone is misinformed. So many choices for brunch, why choose a restaurant that responds to a customer review with an attitude and one that cannot treat a customer with respect and accept an honest review.

I’ve had better breakfast before. Also had to wait over an hour for food, which is ridiculous given the food isn’t even worth the wait. The waitress was also not very friendly or welcoming. Been to a few restaurants in Washington and the service was just horrible. After waiting an hour for the food, we had to call the manager to get an apology. But even that, all we heard was excuses. If you want to go to a really great breakfast place with amazing service, try Founding Farmers.

1 star and here is why: I made reservations a month in advance, based on other Unilocal reviewers tip. Upon arrival, we were seated promptedly inside– big mistake, their patio is very cute. 1.5hours later we still do not have our food, meanwhile everyone else around us gets their food. We asked our waitress twice and she kept giving us the same generic reason-food comes out in order. Finally we asked to see the manager, who told us they messed up one of our orders and had to remake everything. She did end up giving us a 25% discount. Quite frankly the wait and excuses are unacceptable. Especially with the amazing service all other DC restaurants seem to have. Apart from that, the waiters seem overworked and are not as courteous and friendly compared to other restaurants. Yes the donuts were amazing, but I have had better brunch at other DC restaurants. I would not recommend this place-not worth the wait for the food.

I loved this restaurant. The brunch was amazing. The environment was nice and quaint. The service was decent. I got the French toast and it AMAZING. It wasn’t too sweet or overwhelming, but then again I have a sweet tooth. My mom ordered the Tabard cheese grits and those were also very very good. It was a large plate and definitely very filling. Overall great experience. We also ordered the house-made donuts, so well made and soft. It was the perfect size to share with my mom before our great meal.

An old fashioned inn serving brunch is just an iconic way to enjoy your Sunday morning. The outside patio is a prime choice when there’s nice weather. The inside dining area was a bit loud and it was hard to hear my cousin next to me. We were seated fairly further from the group tables but noise travels on the wooden floors. Don’t underestimate the size of the dining area since there are multiple levels to enjoy their unique menu. The Cheesy grits were creamy and the pork belly created wonderful texture. Don’t be scared of the oyster because it was a great compliment. As a lactose intolerant eater, it was well worth it!

The food and service at the Tabard Inn Restaurant are perfect for a nice meal with some good company. But if you don’t have company, don’t worry, you’ll be bumping elbows with the person at the table next to you because they cram you in so much. Overcrowding aside, the food, wine, and service were nice. I had the zucchini and yellow squash risotto, and someone else at my table ordered the ricotta gnocchi; everyone at my table was happy with their meal, and everyone cleaned their plates. Dessert was also quite delicious. Although it was a nice experience, I wasn’t completely digging the vibe. I can’t put my finger on it, but I didn’t feel entirely comfortable there. There was nothing wrong or bad with the food or service, I just didn’t love it. I might go back for a drink at the bar if I’m in the neighborhood, but as for dinner, there are plenty of other options in D.C. to explore.

Standard expensive brunch place in D.C. I love donuts. However, these donuts were delicious but I would say they are not premium donuts. They were sugary and fresh but you are not missing anything really.(My favorite donuts are J.Co donuts from Southeast Asia). Just like other reviews, the place was gloomy with few natural lights coming through. It is consistent with the old feel of Tabard Inn. Selfie would be great because of the walls and style. Brunch menu were slightly pricey as well — I guess standard for burnch places. They gave complimentary minicupcakes. Tasted ordinary. I got Eggs benedict with ham. They were delicious. However, nothing unique or impressive about it. Good place to have brunch but for the price, other brunch places would have been more worth it(a place with bottomless drinks for example). You will still like it but, definitely, it will not be your favorite.

I love brunch and have yet to find a good place in DC… Until now. This place is good. 4.5 stars for the food. I texted my husband after brunch to tell him that they had the best doughnuts I’ve ever had. His response, ‘that’s a bold statement’. My friend and I ordered a half dozen of them, in addition to our entrees. We each ate two and took the last two to go. They were light and fluffy and not oily at all(which I’ve found to be the problem when I’ve had them at sit-down restaurants). There was a light dusting of sugar on them, and they were served with a fluffy whipped cream. I had the grits with the pork belly and fried oysters. Ummmm yum! I usually don’t eat oysters unless they’re fresh shucked with lemon juice, but these oysters were so good. They still tasted juicy, not chewy. The batter was light and crispy and well seasoned. The grits were smooth and velvety, like a polenta. And the pork was rendered down so it didn’t taste too fatty. 4 stars for our server who greeted us quickly and was able to make food and drink recommendations. 4 stars for the ambiance. It’s a lively and loud place, which I didn’t have a problem with but could be a negative if you’re looking for something more quiet & intimate. There’s a very old but cute waiting area with a fireplace if you don’t have reservations. I’d return for sure to try the poached eggs with corned beef, the eggs Benedict, and for another half dozen doughnuts.

Went here with a group of 15 and we’re seated upstairs in a private dining area with fireplace. This Inn is beautiful and a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. The food was very good. I had an outstanding roasted beet salad, filet, and a to die for crème brûlée. I sampled some risotto which was okay but not as good as my filet. All in all we had excellent service a beautiful location in just a wonderful dinner. Would love to bring my wife there if we end up in DC at the same time.

Made reservations for brunch on Valentine’s Day. We were seated upstairs, which we didn’t mind(and we understand that on holidays, restaurants have to make accommodations for higher volume), but we listened to three other couples complain about being seated upstairs when they«had made reservations and deserved a seat downstairs.» We kind of wanted to ask what was so fabulous about the downstairs dining room… do you know? We started with the doughnuts, which were warm and more like beignets(which is awesome), but a touch doughy in the center. They weren’t too heavy, though. The cream that is served with them isn’t bad. You also get some mini muffins and bread with butter. We had coffee, and the servers did try to keep the mugs filled, which was nice. I had the Tabard Inn Grits — cheese grits with two fried oysters and two pieces of pork belly. The pork belly was tough, the oysters didn’t taste like anything, and there were lumpy bits in the grits. The poached eggs on top were nice, but otherwise I wasn’t really impressed. My husband had the poached eggs with salmon hash, and he said it was pretty good. I don’t think either of us were blown away, though, and service was just lukewarm. Overall, disappointing — I think we probably could have picked a better place.

Tabard Inn Restaurant is kind of a strange place — It’s housed in a(really) old hotel, that has furniture to match its age and feels kind of dark and creaky. But the brunch food is really good and makes it worth giving a try. It’s always listed as a classic Washingtonian brunch spot, but I find it a little stuffy and drab inside(though the courtyard is really cute if you can snag a spot out there during the summer!!). Try to make a reservation or be prepped to wait a little since Tabard Inn is usually crowded during brunch hours… especially on weekends. They serve your typical American brunch food, but everything is consistently good! Definitely start with the donuts(they’re kind of huge though, so don’t over order). The donuts are made fresh and covered with cinnamon sugar, served with a fresh whipped cream. All the entrees I’ve tried are also good — you can’t really go wrong with brunch here. But I think for the ambiance and price there might be slightly better brunch options in the city elsewhere!

This joint has to be my favorite brunch spot in DC. It’s a hotel with a restaurant, make sure you make a reservation because it’s always really busy. They do have valet in front. The thing you must try and share are the Tabard Inn donuts, so worth the calories. I’ve tried the eggs benedict and quiche – both were really good. To be honest, all the brunch items are pretty good and make sure you get a cup of joe and a mimosa!

This is unusual, but this is a time where the ratings don’t closely match the experience. My expectations were for donuts which are there specialty. However, this is a weekend thing only and I’m sure someone mentions it in a review. Since I was staying next door at the Topaz I wanted to check them out. It has a beautiful exterior and signage is for the Tabard Inn. The restaurant is in the rear, but you enter through the front. The lobby is nothing special, however the sitting room with the fireplace is darn impressive and cozy. I continued to the restaurant and there was no hostess at around 9AM. A bar area was just inside the door. I continued in and saw a few waiters and no one acknowledged. I thought maybe it was seat yourself and that’s what I did. A few customers were at tables. The restaurant can seat quite a few, tables and chairs are packed in tight. It has little natural lighting and for a lack of a better word does seem gloomy for a breakfast meal. The place has character, make no mistake. A waiter did take care of drink orders and provided menus. With needing to move along we ordered when drinks arrived. The waiter when prompted was able to make a recommendation, but it was like pulling teeth. I decided on the hash and my son pancakes. The coffee was more bitter than I like, but passable. The server also brought out two biscuits with jam. They were quickly scarfed down and delicious. The jam spectacular. The food came out with blazing speed, like less than ten minutes. Now that is impressive. Everything was correct and hot. I asked the server for a coffee refill. My hash was strong, but not the best I’ve ever had. My son just loved his moist pancakes, but thought the bacon was over cooked and I agreed. The waiter had to be flagged down for another coffee refill and never refilled waters. The place was still almost empty, so no excuse on non existent service. My son had already finished his meal, but yet the dirty plates were not picked up. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. I again had to flag down the waiter for a check and it was promptly provided. The total was correct and the card was processed quickly. From the beginning the server never clicked with me. No thank you for joining them and spending my money at any time. Check was set down with no eye contact. This is not a place I would jump at returning. I would like to try their weekend menu sometime and would hope service would be much more attentive.

I’ve been to many brunch spots, and while they all serve the same thing(I mean how many ways can you flip egss?) there’s always something that helps them stand out — ambiance, service, drinks, crowd, etc. For the Tabard Inn, it’s the doughnuts. Seriously, that’s about it. If you’re into the vintage hotel décor, then that will be a plus for you. However, we sat outside in the heat(under an umbrella and several fans) drinking mimosas so by the time we were done, a nap was in order. I wouldn’t go again for the food, but only for the doughnuts. The doughnuts alone should be sold by the bag, they were THAT good.

Beautiful old school restaurant. Very little on the brunch menu that’s vegan, but the waitress was friendly and nice, and I ended up with a tasty tortilla soup and an excellent mimosa and some home fries. Seems to be a lot of local history here too, but don’t have much context for it. Prices were upscale but still reasonable.

The best way to describe Tabard Inn is interesting — a good way. Getting up to the use the restroom here is essentially a maze. The restaurant is basically a hodgepodge of decorations that give it a very unique vibe. The food is good. I got the crab cakes the last time I was there are they were great quality. The portion size to price is a great ratio. The desserts are really the best value. The crème brûlée and apple pie are wonderful! The service is good — if you’re in a private dining room, it is a little more far between but the attention to detail makes up for it. I really enjoy Tabard Inn for the vibe. When it gets colder, sometimes all you want to do is sit in the living room among couches and fireplaces and books and just spend time with friends. I recommend visiting if you’re in Dupont Circle in DC. It’s worth the experience at any meal.

What hasn’t been said about Tabard Inn? With over a thousand reviews, there can’t be a nook or cranny that hasn’t been covered. We made reservations through OpenTable a few days in advance, and enjoyed brunch a warm Sunday morning. We got there around 10:45, and there were plenty of open tables. The place started to fill throughout our meal, though, so reservations are probably needed if you plan on REALLY sleeping in. We were seated in the upstairs dining area, which was quiet. It doesn’t have quite the atmosphere that the downstairs seemed to have. The service was prompt, and the ubiquitous bread basket was brought out. Man, considering that the basket was complimentary, it was surprising how DELICIOUS the breads were. There was even a little muffin, but I preferred the slightly spicy, savory slice. I ordered the huevos rancheros, and my boyfriend got the fried oysters with cheese grits. Both dishes were solid, but the fried oysters were fantastic. I wish I had could have topped my huevos rancheros with the oysters – now that would have been a dish! The real winner of the meal? Obviously the donut. We were good, and only got one to share. We can’t be gluttons all the time, but we secretly wished for more. The donut was the softest and AIRIEST I have ever eaten. Like it was like eating a cinnamon sugar cloud. Like how does this happen? I didn’t even bother with the whipped cream. If you are in DC and want a leisurely, no-fuss brunch, check out Tabard Inn.

One of the best brunches I’ve had in DC! Made reservations a couple hours before showing up on a Saturday morning, and was seated immediately once we arrived. Food 4.5÷5 Really happy with the food. Bread basket brought out at the beginning of the meal had a couple different types of delicious mini muffins. We also got some of Freshly Fried Donuts to start, and to quote my roommate(at his request), «THESEARE A REVELATION.» These donuts are delicious enough to change lives. I had the Scrambled Eggs as my entrée and thought it was great. Nothing too ground breaking, just a biscuit, scrambled eggs, a breakfast sausage, and home fries, but everything was executed incredibly well. I have had way too many a good brunch tainted by subpar homefries, and I’m happy to report this is not the case here. They were slightly crispy, piping hot, and had delicious little bits of onion throughout. I didn’t even need ketchup. Service 3.5÷5 We had to wait awhile after being seated to get a hold of a waiter. My sister has a nut allergy, so I wanted to ask someone if anything in the bread basket has nuts, but by the time I had actually managed to get a hold of someone, the rest of the table had already enjoyed most of the basket! The waiter kindly brought her another basket after making sure that there were no nuts in any of the baked goods. Otherwise, service was pretty standard. Not particularly friendly, but not bad either. The waitstaff seemed very busy with the weekend brunch, which is understandable. Ambiance 4⁄5 Very cute inn décor. There was also a patio, but I didn’t get a chance to see it.

On a quiet street in the basement of a quaint-looking inn, guests can dine at the bar, in the oasis of the garden, and, of course, in the restaurant with a country aesthetic. Tables, placed in cozy proximity to each other, were occupied with couples enjoying the start of the weekend, families catching up with each other, and new friends getting to know each other. Promptly seated, the server quickly delivered a basket of focaccia and mini muffins. I loved the quiche, served with a light salad of greens, cucumber, shredded carrots and grape tomatoes, and tossed in a light vinaigrette. In contrast, the quiche highlighted the sweet crab meat, spinach, leeks, and peppers. It was creamy and delicious with a crunchy top and a thin shortbread-like crust. The server recommended the country sausage as a side to the delicious dish. The two smoked links were nicely flavored. The yeast-raised doughnut was tasty. Freshly prepared and with a nice coating of cinnamon sugar, the soft doughnut was delicious and very popular. It did not need the fresh whipped cream though I did enjoy the accompaniment. Service was fine.

Great brunch spot on an early Saturday morning. First thing you need to do is order the donuts! They are made fresh to order, and to die for. We came in without a reservation, and were offered a table with no wait outside. Perfectly fine, I preferred to sit outside! This place is literally in an old Inn so it has character. I am intrigued by their dinner menu as well. Patio was crowded, but somewhat sectioned off so that we didnt feel overwhelmed. Brunch drinks were decent, my hungover self went straight for the Bloody Mary. Menu items were pretty basic brunch. I had an omelette, no cheese, and my guest had the eggs benny. Nothing on the menu was too special, but the food was great! I had a hard time deciding what to order despite the somewhat small size menu. Fast service, and they weren’t pushing us to leave, like a lot of brunch places. I will be back!

I understand there is a big hype around this place. I think whenever a restaurant embodies a huge hype, they need to make sure they step up their game. I think when there is a hype people expect the universe and have almost unrealistic expectations. And when the people’s standards are not met, people get disappointed. With that said, I think the hype is understandable but not justifiable. The food is delicious, yes! However, the restaurant does not 100% deserve the hype they are receiving. I believe if you went into this place with no expectations, you would be blown away. However, with the hype, I believe you will get bummed. When I waked in I was greeted by a lazy hostess. Maybe because it was about an hour to closing time? I’m not sure. However, I walked in and the hostess was quite lazy about doing her job. There was no friendly greeting … or as a matter of fact, I don’t believe she provided me with a greeting at all. She was clearly not loving her job. She just stared at me and so I told her that I wanted a seat by the bar. She didn’t say anything for a while… Then a few seconds later, she says,” um… You can go ahead…” I was surprised about her attitude. So I helped myself to the bar seating. Then while my sister and I were sitting at the bar, the hostess recruited a co-worker friend to talk with her. It was odd because when I looked over, she was talking about my sister and I and laughing… It was quite bizarre. And it was quite obvious. My sister and I were dressed very adorably so I just concluded she was looking at our tiny figure and laughing at our skinny figure.(When I am in public I receive a lot of dirty looks and whispering about my skinny body) so I assumed that’s what she was doing as well. I can’t be quite sure what she was laughing about, but at that point I tried not to look in her direction… So I’m not sure if they continued to talk about us or stopped. However, the bartender was super friendly. He embraced his job and had a great time! He was engaging and very sweet!
