Here’s what happened It’s 3AM, let out of all the bars and clubs on the strip, my friend really needs to pee. I know how unruly AM(Adam’s Morgan) can be and most of the establishments close immediately to avoid any incidents and ask if she can hold it. We see this empty Subway and go in. I pull my wallet out, I already know they will demand we purchase something in order to use the facility. We get in, she asks to use the restroom and two men look and SHOUT at us(unprofessional #1), «You have to buy to use!» I pick up a bag of chips and stand in front of the register and respond, «I’m ready». They look unsure and hesitant about allowing me to buy a bag of chips… they exchange some sentences in their native language(unprofessional #2). Finally he says OK slams the key on the counter(unprofessional #3). My friend goes to use the restroom, I pay for the chips. I sit down to wait for my friend to come back. Two men walk in, clearly drunk, how do I know that? They are yelling and stumbling all over. People start to leave, annoyed at this. I hear them say they are looking for the bathroom. The employees are just talking among themsevles completely ignoring these men. The men then both run to the back of the store and 1 by 1 use the restroom. The employees look up and see, then say nothing. No reaction whatsoever. I get up and asked one, «Why are you not asking them to buy anything? You just yelled at my friend and I?» He doesn’t respond. «Can I return these chips since you aren’t requiring them to pay?» The chips were unopened. A customer walks up to the register and the employee looks at me and says«ITCOSTSMONEYFORWATERANDELECTRICITYYOUHAVETOPAYTOUSETHEBATHROOM, THATSHOWBUSINESSWORKS» and waves his hands at me.(unprofessional #4) My friend is walking out of the bathroom and I realize, he doesn’t care that he treated black sober paying patrons and white drunk non-customers differently. Absolutely no regard in the ethical equation of the situation, I don’t waste another breath and left the store. I saw a homeless man on our walk back to the car and gave him the chips.

Well, it was clean, but that was the only good thing I could say for this location. First of all, it was supposed to open at 8(as posted on the door), but when my fiancé and I arrived at 8:25, it had not opened yet. We came back an hour later and tried to order sandwiches. Turns out, he hadn’t prepped the ingredients yet so we had to wait another 10 minutes. In the mean time we placed the order so we could have chips and a drink while waiting, but it took a while as he seemed confused by our order, which we had to repeat a few times before he got it(it was a pretty easy order, two identical sandwiches and both with the meal deal). A few minutes later, he called us to the counter and proceeded to make the sandwiches. Our«heated» sandwiches came out cold, so I asked him to reheat one, which to his credit he did without complaint(but also without apology). I read the other reviews about it being improved here since the new management, but honestly, I don’t think this location deserves above 2 stars yet.

Another update required — New management! I’ve only been once or twice, but they seem nice and competent, unlike the previous disaster. Spoke to the new owner, and he had a really positive attitude and capably made a sandwich. Thank GOODNESS, the old place is gone, this Subway is do-able now. Disregard the old,(rightfully) brutal reviews — they were right, but there are better days ahead.

This is under new management now, so you should disregard older reviews. Normally I would probably put this at 3 stars, but since the other reviews are sooo low(deservedly) I thought I would try to bump up the ranking a bit so they don’t get crucified for the old managements stupidity. Came in here a couple times recently and it was a normal subway. They had all the ingredients, they toasted my sub correctly, and they charged me the right amount. 4 stars!

Like a shitty old leather shoe that’s been left in the sun all day: 5 good reasons you should avoid this place. 1. Walked in and the dude was eating behind the counter. Didn’t wash his hands between eating his food and making my sandwich. I don’t care if you put on gloves — I don’t know where your mouth has been. Wash your hands when you touch your mouth if you’re about to handle my food. 2 — 4. Seriously, I have gotten the same order from Subway for the last several years, 99.9% of the time with no problems. It’s a simple order — and the«sandwich artist» spoke perfectly good English, so I know that we didn’t have a communication issue. I asked for him to go light on the mustard. I got fucking mountains of mustard, which might have been a great flavor alternative to the browning lettuce and vegetables that somehow tasted like they were all pickled, but the meat was so fucking chewy that I called it a loss and threw the entire sandwich away. 5. The oven to toast sandwiches is broken. No sign pointing this out. This directly leads to shattered dreams and soggy sandwiches when you spray condiments on like a goddamn super soaker. So for everyone who wants a remotely edible sandwich, avoid the shit out of this place. Wisey’s in Georgetown delivers and is about a billion times better.

This is where Subway went to die. End of story. You’re lucky if the toaster or CC machine is working or if the staff can follow directions. If it weren’t for my periodic cravings for veggies and banana peppers… and the proximity I wouldn’t go — but alas…

Probably the worst Subway in D.C. Like the rest of the reviewers have said: they don’t stock spinach or the red wine vinaigrette dressing(hate when some of the chains cut corners and just use oil and vinegar), don’t have a real selection on bottled drinks, very POOR communication skills and when peering over the counter, it didn’t look too clean either. Plus, WUSA9 had a report in Feb. 2013 saying they didn’t operate with adequate hot water or store meatballs at the correct temperature!

I actually like Subway once in awhile, but this location is not very good. Language was the main issue Soda Machine tasted like watered down so I purchased a bottled soda and then it was warm because their cooler for bottled drinks obviously wasn’t working(Good thing I didn’t buy the milk!). So now I try to be nice explain why I need a cup with ice and I try to let them know the soda machine is not distributing enough syrup and it tastes wrong. I was very nice and I wanted to help them so other customers don’t run into the same problem and complain. Hence, here is where the language issue came into play. They where very nice and polite, but they had that deer in the headlights look the entire time and I knew they didn’t understand a thing I was trying to tell them. Then other patrons started to complain about the soda machine. I just said thank you and left. Overall, typical Subway but this location is really not run well and their is a serious language barrier with the staff.

1. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken meat, and I had to point and show the employee which one I wanted… 2) The woman didn’t know what flatbread was… 3) The line was to the door, and she was the only person working behind the counter… 4) It took her five minutes to punch my order into the register… 5) She said«we don’t accept subway gift cards» only because she didn’t know how to use it… 6) I paid cash, and it took her another five minutes to figure out how much change she owed me… 7) After not giving me correct change, she invited me to point and show her which bills and quarters I wanted back… 8) the seating area looked like they never setup the place after opening up in the morning. VERDICT: Worst subway ever. Hire people that can make a simple sandwich and count money. Also, if you walk into a food joint and the employee behind the counter walks to the back to avoid customers, its not a place you should eat at. Btw: the words«we don’t have it» are their favorite words. Your response should be «check the back.»

The place was staffed by two untrained employees apparently on their first day. They didn’t know what any of the sandwiches were, or even the names of the toppings. They were completely overwhelmed by three sandwich orders.

Such simple things can really ruin an experience. The location is great and you’d expect they would be packing them in; but the service is so bad that I doubt few return. During a weekday lunch period, the line was short and the place was near empty. There were only 2 workers, and they were slow… omg, they were so frickin’ slow. One didn’t speak, and the other talk to softly and with an accent that you had to strain to hear him. When my wife asked him to repeat himself(at least three times), he smirked and wouldn’t even look her in the eye. Several customers came in, stood in line, saw the inaction, and walked out. Wish we had too. Poor service aside, the salad and the sub we had were sub-par. My hot sandwich was barely luke warm by the time we sat down.

UPDATE: I always said that this is a great location in Adams Morgan for a Subway, just with the wrong management. Since my first scathing review below, new management has finally taken over this once horrific store. I’m happy to report that it seems to be functioning like a good Subway should, now. They stock the items they sell. They’re professional. They don’t skimp on toppings to save a few cents. They understand what you’re saying. You understand what they’re saying. It’s clean… Only complaint I have from my recent visit is that the«Sweet Iced Tea» was just normal iced tea mislabeled sweet. Daddy wants his sugar. So, I’m bumping their 1 star rating up to 3 stars for now but keeping my original post below so, hopefully, it serves as a small reminder echoing from the distant wilderness of the interwebs that we haven’t forgotten. — — — — — — — — — Former management review: This is the worst Subway I’ve ever been to. They are always unapologetically out of products; always put as little topping on as possible; hardly ever have apples and when they do they grab the apple juice instead; and don’t even stock spinach, even though they have a chicken and spinach salad on their menu. I’ve seen multiple people at different times walk out because they didn’t have supplies for the sandwiches they ordered.

I went in to get a couple subs from the Adams Morgan subway. When I went in there was a middle aged African American man standing outside. Not asking for money, just standing outside the window. The subway staffer was loudly complaining about this guy standing there, repeatedly motioning to him to move away from the store and saying under his breath that he was going to go outside and beat the guy up. This then escalated to him going on about n-word this and n-word that. The gentleman came inside and asked the clerk what was wrong with him standing there, not doing anything. The clerk repeatedly said he was going to come outside and beat him up. At this point, I told the clerk that he was nuts if he thought I was going to spend one penny in his store ever. Don’t go here. The owner or staff working there on 11÷5÷11 is a racist, hateful, violent person and doesn’t deserve your business. There are other subway shops you can go to — don’t patronize this one.

Are you kidding me??? This is the worst Subway in the world! I work in Adams Morgan, and am always looking for a cheap quick lunch. Obviously Subway would be a choice once every couple weeks. Not anymore! Everytime I go there, the veges are practically rotting, the place is dirty, the drink machine isn’t working and it’s just bad service. I swore off going there since April, and I haven’t gone back! Not to mention — there’s always a homeless person staring at you through the window or yelling something at you.

This Subway location is not too shabby. Definitely much better than I expected from a Subway in Adams Morgan. The restaurant was pretty clean and well kept. I came in at around 1pm and there were no lines and plenty of open tables and seats to dine at. The«sandwich artist» put a lot of love into my sammich and the bread was really fresh and soft! Overall, a pretty good Subway experience!

Working in Adams Morgan you get a lot of choices for food but for a quick lunch you are pretty limited to Julias Empanadas, Micky D’s and Subway. I’ve been to them all but Subway seems the healthest. Unfortunately Subway has the worst customer service I’ve seen here in Adams Morgan. They act like we are bothering them by coming in bringing them business. I know its not just me b/c I’ve asked others. Everytime I come in its the same thing. I’ve been given attitude for not quickly responding to what I wanted on my sandwhich. And for them makeing their own bread I frequently get old bread. I feel like if I said something about it I would get hit in the head with a black olive haha. With all the these complaints I’m sure I will continue to eat here b/c its close and convient. Maybe one day I will have the bleep bleep to tell tehm what’s on my mine.
