The pizza is just ok, nothing really to write home about, didn’t try anything else. The service, now that’s something else! I don’t usually care if my server smiles or even chit chats but outright rudeness is uncalled for! Our server didn’t even acknowledge my presence at the table, the only time she looked at me was when she was taking my order. All questions, the check etc. were all referred to my dinner date. Thanks for being so rude! At least now I know never to return to your restaurant! Interestingly she wasn’t like that with the table next to us. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Nothing to write home about. Fair Italian food… There are other Italian restaurants around the hood that are much better…

The most authentic northern Italian food I’ve had in the states. I had Pietros traditional Venetian stew. It was awesome. I also got a pizza as an appetizer, the crust was perfect. I’m coming back here next time I’m in DC.

I’ve tried most of the restaurants in Cleveland Park, and this is my absolute favorite! I had the salmon, and tiramisu. Both were great. The staff is really nice and the atmosphere is cosy. There are no gimmicks, just nice people and great food. One more thing… Silly as it is the profile picture on Unilocal dissuaded me from trying the restaurant for months, just know that picture does them no justice. It doesn’t represent the appearance of their food at all.

Everything we had tonight was utterly delicious. From the wine, to the bread, salad, pappardelle, AND service… we will definitely be back!

Nice, family place in Cleveland Park. They do not take reservations for parties less than 5. The whole restaurant was filled early, with mostly Italian families, which I think was a good sign. Our waitress was extremely informative about the wines and all of the dishes, and she was super sweet. Ordered a nice bottle of Italian rose, which was good. I highly recommend the arugula and Parmesan salad, and the prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe appetizer with burrata. Both were excellent. My mom had the eggplant parm, which she said was delicious. I had the risotto, which was not so great. It had one normal sized piece of shrimp on top, with what looked like very tiny, frozen shrimp throughout, and there was barely any zucchini. The«saffron risotto» was pretty flavorless. All in all, the dish was way overpriced and didn’t deliver. I’d go back to try the homemade pastas though!(I think this place is a little overpriced for what you get.)

Read all the other reviews carefully to understand what you’re getting into. We were not expecting over-the-top great food and service and we are polite and patient customers who understand what’s what with restaurants in D.C. The whole staff has an unpleasant attitude They are not trained, don’t want to be there and really don’t care whether or not you’re there. The food was ok, but it would have been so much better with decent service. All this for a minimum of $ 50/head.

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would be thrilled. My husband and I have always enjoyed the pastas and especially the pizza at Sorriso. We just returned from a week in Italy and wanted to recall the flavors from our wonderful trip while catching up with a friend. The owner was arrogant and obnoxious and denied my husband his simple request of a dish of tomato sauce to enjoy with his bread(which by the way wasn’t fresh), while we were deciding on what to order. We will never go back to this restaurant and if you read several reviews you will see what a rude«businessman» the owner is, and How atrocious his staff is. We entered this restaurant really happy and were by No means causing a problem — we left feeling uncomfortable and never want that feeling for us or anyone ever again.

Save your money! The food is OK, not good, not great just ok! For convenience, though, I have gone to this place several times! However the owner is so rude and arrogant, I cannot, in good conscience, spend my money there! Also, the waitstaff, with the exception of one very nice guy, were courteous, but cold! No smiles, not helpful! Bad news, too, when you go to the bar area to get a take out order and the person is making a drink or whatever and does not even look up to acknowledge your presence! My dad had a saying, ‘would it break your face to smile?’ That about sums up this place! I prefer to eat in a restaurant that appreciates my business!

I’ll preface this with: if you’re eating pizza here you’re missing the point. While the pizza is good(authentic and simple, not that greasy topping monstrosity the US has created), I don’t think it’s their best feature! This was one of the best Italian meals I’ve had outside of Italy, and my grandparents are Italian. A group of four of us were seated upstairs at the window. The table was a little small, and if the room had been more crowded it might have been uncomfortable, but we had a lovely time. The waitress was kind and made wonderful suggestions when we told her we were having a hard time deciding what to eat! The wine was lovely, again we left that decision up to our waitress. I had an amazing pasta with white wine truffle mushroom sauce… oh my… it was amazing. We had a great meal, and nice time. My out of town friends always ask if we can go back there!

Food is good. Not mind-blowing but good. The bolognese sauce is really good. Service needs improvement. Seriously. The waiters are in a hurry and are not as friendly. Recap: food wise: good. Service wise: must improve.

Came here on a slow, quiet, rainy Sunday evening and had one of the best meals I’ve eaten in many visits to DC. Glad I decided to give it a try. The white pizza: perfect balance of cheese, seasonings, and a light, crisp crust. The tagliatelle with wild boar sausage ragu: so interesting, different, and delicious. Hate to say it, but it made the veal ragu I had two evenings earlier at Al Tiramisu seem blah by comparison. The salted caramel gelato was a nice finish. Nice selection of white and red wines by the glass. The service was polite and the meal perfectly paced. Sorry for the less-good experiences other people have reported, but I really couldn’t have been more pleased.

This is a great Italian place in Cleveland Park. Be sure to get one of the homemade pastas. The veal parm was crispy flavorful and cheesy, all at once. The portion was enormous. The veal ravioli special was great. It had a wonderful rich flavor and was served in osso bucco sauce. There are a couple of interesting Italian beers available as well. I also have a soft spot for this restaurant because it introduced me to my all time favorite dish: Saltimbocca alla romana, which I now make on a regular basis.

First and foremost my chief complaint is that the food is incredibly overpriced. Taking away the fact that you pay for convenience, and DC is expensive all in itself, it was«meh.» Essentially, the basic spaghetti and meatballs was tacky, as if the noodles had been sitting in a colander for too long. The sauce tasted like Ragu. BUT, the caprese salad was delicious and it gives me the impression that some of their menu items take more priority than others. I feel like the more unique or fresh it is intended to be, the more effort they put into it. Overall, it fulfilled my Italian craving on short notice, but I wouldn’t go back and spend too much money.

Great thin crust pizza! I grew up in Chicago and am VERY critical of pizza – no offense DC, but your pizza stinks. This place makes a great thin crust, cooked in a brick-oven so it’s the perfect crunchy crust. We got the Four Cheese pizza and then made our own with zucchini and mozzarella. Both were delicious – especially the four cheese. Its obvious that the ingredients are fresh. The rest of the menu looks great, but is a bit pricey for pasta. I wish they were open for lunch so I could try more of the menu without spending $ 40 a person!

Had a terrible experience. Went with a group of my colleagues from law school to celebrate the last day of final exams and we were greeted with an inattentive waitress, small portions, and rude patrons who insisted on staring whenever we so much as laughed too loudly. I will never return.

Let me start off by saying I will never come here again. Okay, now that I got that out the way, let me tell you about my experience at Sorriso. As an Italian, I am very critical of Italian restaurants. It’s just a fact of life– no one can cook as well as my grandma! I pass by Sorriso all the time since it is right next to the Cleveland Park metro, so I decided to give it a try with some friends. The menu had a lot of options– antipasti, pizza, pasta. All you would expect from an Italian restaurant. I ordered the Pizza Bianca(a white pizza) with basil as an extra topping. They literally put 4 small leaves of basil on top and charged me an extra $ 1.50, but no sense in bringing it up over a buck. Overall, the quality of pizza was alright, I’d give it a solid three. It was your average pizza. The crust was a little thin and burnt but it was certainly edible. The rest of our table enjoyed their food as well. Here comes the weird part. The check came and we asked the waitress if she could divide the bill by what we ordered. We didn’t ask for separate checks in advance which was our fault so we expected she might say no. Instead, she said it was OK and gave us a pen so we marked the items we got. She took the check and our cards. Five minutes later she comes back with the manager/owner. He starts telling us we are, and I quote, CRAZY for asking him to split the bill this way and we should just be happy he will split it four ways. Now, there are many ways to frame this other than calling your customers crazy. You can politely say, «it is our policy that we don’t take more than X amount of credit cards per order» or «we only split orders evenly among cards.» Calling your customers crazy? This wasn’t an atypical request. The waitress comes back and apologizes for the manager, and we tell her we know it isn’t her fault but his behavior was rude. Then the manager comes walking back to our table. We expect he will apologize or something for making us feel uncomfortable. Instead, in front of many other tables, he started yelling at us and says«how dare we call him rude, this is my restaurant» etc. Like a 5 year old. He would not leave! We asked him to walk away and told him we would not come back, so not to worry. I found it shocking that a manager would treat their patrons so rudely and disrespectfully. Your food is a solid three. You have no right to be an immature asshole. Especially over something so trivial that could have been easily framed in a mature, professional manner. As a fellow Unilocaler, you can decide for yourself whether or not to eat at Sorriso. Given the number of great Italian restaurants in DC, you can find better food and eat it somewhere and be treated respectfully as a customer.
