This place is TERRIBLE! They are always slow. ALWAYS! And today I stopped in there to get a meal for a friend and I actually witnessed an employee argue with a customer. The manager was called and the employee was told to honor what the customer was saying and the employee still continued to argue. I witnessed the employees actually throw temper tantrums, all while the line has grown to the front of the store. Unacceptable. This place is just terrible!

Absolutely HORRIBLE! This is 2nd year we come here to eat when in DC. Last year we thought it was just a bad day for food and service. It was worse yesterday. We came in 45 minutes before we had to be someplace 2 blocks away thinking we had plenty of time to eat. We ordered…20 minutes later still no food but others were in and out before us. We ordered chicken how hard could that be? 2 people behind the counter could not speak English. the manager was trying his best to keep up. We had to demand a refund after another 10 minutes of waiting. then was offered a free piece for inconvenience. This place was dirty, smelly and not enough room for customers. Next year. will not make this mistake again. My advice… eat someplace else.

dining area isnt clean. Posted signs sayin text popeyes to get deals/coupons text to your phone but store wont honor the coupons/deals. Understaffed… cant provide good service because cashier is taking orders, filling orders and sweeping the floor behind the counter at the same time. Thankful that she at least washed her hands.

I have mixed emotions about this Popeye’s. I was there last on a Friday night, which is pretty lively. They seemed a little short staffed and a bit slow; so, it took like 10 minutes to order my food although I didn’t have to wait long after ordering. A previous lady mentioned that the sweet tea was out, and I said yes that is what I want, but I realized what I had didn’t come with a drink so I said to just give me a cup of water. The lady who mentioned the sweet tea was out said that she was hurry and that I could have her cup. Enthusiastically, I told her thanks. The food was great as always. Other interesting things on this Friday night there ranked in order: 3. Some roudy people in the booth next to me. One of the girls stood up from the inside her booth and stepped onto the booth closest to the cashiers where people were sitting! Those people in that booth is my #1 2. There was a possibly homeless man sleeping in a booth near me, which I had seen before at this location. 1. There were two people, a couple, who came in, and they brought their Chipotle in and ate in that first booth! Maybe Chipotle was out of seats, but geez. The guy did stand in line and got him and his girlfriend a sweet tea. So at least they bought something. It was just really random.

It’s a Popeye’s…For the most part they are all the same. This one does have a lot of homeless people who stand around asking people to buy them chicken. They tend to take up quite a few tables, so that’s something to keep in mind if you plan on eating in. They are pretty fast and relatively friendly… so they have that going for them…

I love everything about this Popeyes! The food is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Popeyes and the service professionals meet all the classic Popeyes descriptors. Dericious!

I never wanted to write a review for any food I tried until I had Popeyes fried chicken on 8th street! It was so good! The place was clean and people were friendly

In 1783 George Popeyes made the first 3-piece fried chicken combo with a biscuit and mashed potatoes. His secret Louisiana recipe has stayed in the Popeyes family for no less than 300 years! To this day the 8th street location honors his name by cooking fried chicken, George’s favorite meal. Next time you are there, ask to see his portrait next to the fryer. Also, I recommend ordering the fried chicken.

Did want ever cold or bad. But the atmosphere of this place was dirty all the time they had homeless people inside asking for money. Random people just sitting around hanging out. Over all this is just another nasty fried fast food joint and I’m done with popoyes. It’s time to eat healthy people eliminate the fried and and sodas. u will feel much better.

I love the chicken from Popeyes also. But like all the rest. Service is no to be ___. I don’t think any one need to go to any of the Washington, DC Popeyes. Even the one near where I leave is remodeling not open. Been close for a year. I wood go to Arlington for Popeye. No I wood not go to this location. Even the neighborhood I don’t like. Even they upscale this neighborhood. It still the same area as before. Mostly out of towner come here. And homeless people.

So, this is a great review! Totally excited to leave it. Popeyes just got robbed. The guy literally grabbed the cash register ran out the door, threw it really hard on the ground to try to get money(unsuccessfully), and just started running. He was trying to make it across the bridge, which is a looong way, and got picked up by the po-lease. Doesn’t he know track is a summer Olympics event? Not winter? But, besides that, it’s dirty, the workers are rude and not too bright, and the chicken can be dry from sitting around too long. Oh well! Avoid.

Although I do love chicken from Popeyes this isn’t necessarily the best place to get it. But its too darn close to where I live not to make a quarterly trip to this location. First off, it is dirty so I wouldn’t recommend eating there. Also, there are a bunch of bums/homeless people that loiter in and around the establishment so that is another reason why I wouldn’t eat there, just carry out for your sanity and safety. The freshness of the food can be suspect as sometimes you have to wait forever for your order or not at all. When ever we order the family meal with a large side of cole slaw we typically get three smalls instead, which I hate since I feel like I’m getting less.

Wow, its hard to believe this location has been consistently horrible. I rarely come to this one location even though I love popeyes chicken. There is very little room to sit and it’s not kept up. The cashier was beyond rude and pretty openly hostile. Not worth it.

Not much to add except this is one of the worst Popeye’s in DC. Not as stabby as Brookland or Benning Ridge, and not as filled with f**king monstrous idiots as 14th Street, but somewhere in between. Extra star for getting rid of the racist cashiers and replacing them with some nice Latinas. Unfortunately, they still have a 50% success rate with orders. Also, either get here early or make sure the chicken is fresh from the fryers, otherwise you’re getting something stale. Twice I’ve seen the manager at my local Popeyes scan the heat racks and toss pieces out that have been there too long. Here, they just go ahead and sell them to you. Docked a star for aggressive hobos, one of which has been panhandling here for at least a decade. Second the rec to hit the H Street NE Popeyes if you can. Much better run store and no stale food. The bulletproof glass adds a vibrant urban soupçon. PS: Don’t even bother trying to sit in and eat. You will die.

I generally like Popeye’s, when I don’t think too hard about what might be in it and/or am too hungry to care. The chicken breast and customer service are generally decent enough to keep me from picketing the place though. My low rating is due to the lack of cleanliness of the place and my experience of having a semi-toothless man, with rotted out teeth, turn around and ask me for some money while I was in the middle of taking a bite of my chicken. My appetite fled and I did the same.

It saddens me to give this location such a sub-par review because I personally love that chicken from Popeye’s. The lackluster rating, however, is much more reflective of the service/cleanliness than it is for the food. Is it just me, or this there something very unappealing and just plain homely about all of the Popeye’s in DC? Some weird marketing scheme, perhaps? o_O There was nothing completely terrible that stuck out in my mind when I came here for a quick bite the other night — it just felt a tad bit on the greasy side. No pun intended. The service was extremely slow, although the cashier was very friendly and patient. She was probably this review’s saving grace. I had to wait while they made my chicken tenders, which annoyed me because my friends and I wanted our food fast. It was obviously delicious as usual, and my sweet tea hit the spot like no man/woman could, but overall it just wasn’t my best experience. Ironically it likely won’t hinder me at all from frequenting this location in the future. At the end of the day the food sells itself.

OK, so I kinda hate this place. Not because of what it stands for or because I wish something else was here in it’s place, but wafting through the air everyday is the delicious smell of chicken and the colonels secret herbs and spices. It’s quite misleading(kind of like Subway with their scrumptious bready smells). Walk into the place. I dare you. Go ahead. Go on. Try it out. Designed kind of like a hallway that ends with a counter, the line is ALWAYS long, so you’re always stuck between a drink machine, a trash can, or some people eating. Traffic flows very uncomfortably, unless you’re a fan of people invading your personal bubble. The lady behind the register, yeah, she’s a staple. Her English is definitely evolved enough to understand simple chicken requests(the number, yes I want a drink, ranch dressing, please), but if you have any special requests that vary from standard(a side of gravy, please), she gets noticeably flustered. Oh, and she’s always trying to rush you through the process, so don’t think that she’s being curt to be rude, she might not actually know any better. The food doesn’t suck, but it’s the only fried chicken I’ve found within walking distance of my job. unless you count the buffet at Harris Teeter. and I don’t buffet. I do often get my chicken fixes from other establishments, Eastern Market has a shop inside that will sell you a rotisserie chicken half and a side for less than 7 bucks, and there’s always the Tortilla Café. Save for the biscuits or mashed potatoes(which are better from Ted’s Bulletin), I would avoid this place unless you have a coupon and your grease intake has recently fallen off. Oh. and it’s overpriced. S/N: DONOTGOTOTHESUBWAYACROSSTHESTREET. it sucks just as bad and if your wallet won’t feed you on 8th Street or you’re in a hurry, I strongly recommend Pizza Boli’s and the chinese carryout place over Popeye’s or Subway. justsayin

I am generally a fan of Popeyes but this location is HORRIBLE. The establishment is dirty, rundown, & usually surrounded by homeless people. The employees don’t speak much English either. I’m officially protesting Popeyes after finding a raw chicken nugget in my order. I showed it to the cashier and she accused me of conveniently eating most of my meal before presenting it to her, even though I gave it to her as soon as I found it. After a lot of haggling, she finally gave me a refund but refused to give me the manager’s name and contact information. By the way, the woman’s name was Margot; she’s a peach(rolls eyes). AVOIDTHISPOPEYES!

I really really really wanted fried chicken. I deserved fried chicken. The fried chicken was delicious. I question the sanitary conditions, but it tastes so good once it hits your lips.

This is the WORST location of Popeye’s EVER! They close at 10pm but don’t have any food other than a few wings anytime after 9:30 so you have to go to Subway across the street if you want fast food. It’s dirty and would prefer they had a drivethru so you couldn’t see how icky the floors are. I can’t go back there consciously. And I love Popeye’s. So sad.
