I’m a Howard University student, so when I eat out, I hope my money will be well spent. That was exactly the case at Pica Taco. I was in the mood for an enchilada, as I often am, and on a whim my friend and I took a split to this lovely spot on Florida. I didn’t know what to expect; deceptively small on the outside and dark on the inside, we were drawn to the counter by the inviting smell of beans and warm tortillas. I ordered a chicken enchilada and my friend got three tacos with an assortment of different meats. So *bleeping* delicious. I left with a full stomach and a happy heart. I can’t wait to go back and try a tostada. I plan on blowing a lot of money here.

Holy smokes. Hands down best tacos I’ve ever had. They screwed up my order but I really didn’t care cause it was so damn good. The combinations are endless. I had a carnita(pork) taco in a corn tortilla and a carnita tostada which is an open face taco on a hard corn shell loaded with refried beans lettuce cheese onions jalapeños and carnitas. If you like hot sauce their chipotle sauce will do the trick. Really hot stuff but very tasty. I will come back frequently cause it’s causal easy and extremely tasty

The food was great, really tasty and well seasoned, just not as tasty coming back up. Its possible that this is a one off occurance, but I had their chicken burrito bowl and a chicken tamale yesterday with a Mexican coke and the only thing I’m sure didn’t contribute to my current state is the Mexican coke. Please proceed with caution.

Fantastic food and super friendly service. The barbacoa was lovely, as was the pastor. My favorite was the tres leches cake for dessert accompanied by any number of authentic Mexican beverages. And you can’t beat the prices!

Flavorful, fast and friendly. I ordered the guacamole and chips, #2(two tacos) fish and shredded beef with black beans and rice on soft tortillas. Very tasty. Will come again and recommend:)

I was a long term patron of Pica Taco until last night. I ordered a taco salad with carnitas and chips and queso and ended up in the hospital with food poisoning. I’ve never been so sick in my life! Never again.

Love pica taco. Been going here since they were a little small unnotice taco place. Now, they have new screen for the menu. Their tacos are reasonable price, fresh and yummy.

This is a great mom and pop business. The tacos are good but the burritos are great! Please don’t come here and compare it to Chipotle or any other«fast food» Mexican place. The food has a home cooked style that some may not be used to.

I really didn’t like the tacos here. Thank god I only got 2. They were chicken and they sucked. Shredded, dry, flavorless is about how I would sum up the flavor and texture of the meat. The beans and rice were only redeeming because they were filling. They were as equally dissatisfying as the tacos with no salt, or anything resembling it. I would be willing to give this place another shot based purely on the fact that the service was pleasant and the fact that I will probably be blindly suckered into going back by my other half. He enjoys the crunchy chicken tacos, go figure.

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. The food is a solid 3 stars. I had the lengua tacos, which were cooked perfectly, yet lacked a bit of flavor. I enjoyed the cilantro and onions on top, but I do think they could use something else. My husband had a burrito, and although he enjoyed it, he hasn’t begged to come back. That’s a sure sign that it’s just okay. The price, however, is fantastic. Beers are cheap; food is cheap. It’s not particularly memorable, except for the price.

How do you make whack tacos? This place has a secret formula. I ordered 3 «carne asada» tacos, and I tried punishing myself to uncover the secrets, but I just couldn’t do it. But I did learn enough. It starts with the vegetables. I immediately thought of Subway, how everything is laid out looking«fresh» but you just know the veges have been stripped of all flavor in some giant factory to save costs. Many reviewers said the meat tasted old and dry, but they are just being nice. Beyond being old and dry(at lunch time?!?), as I ate this«„meat“» I thought it couldn’t be beef, like how those sketchy Chinese restaurants in the hood sprinkle in some of Man’s Best Friend as filler. These are the types of tacos that’ll get Trump elected President. Two stars because it’s a great place to take a girl who brags about only drinking Red Stripe, and it’s a block away from the crib. And I’m still staying away.

Moved from the Bay Area, really miss the Mexican food out there… Was hopeful about this place reading the reviews, but was so disappointed. The meat was overcooked/totally dry in my tacos, my husband’s tamales tasted like it had been sitting out for ages, the rice had what tasted like frozen vegetables in it with no flavor, and the beans were watery with absolutely no flavor at all. I don’t understand all of the good ratings… Not a fan myself, but maybe I was just terribly spoiled by CA Mexican food…

I came here because it was the closest restaurant we found near Meridian Hill Park /Malcolm X Park. I bought one«veggie» tamale for four dollars. I was dissatisfied. Note: The tamale is called veggie, but it only has beans and masa(corn-based dough), so it should be called a bean tamale. The tamale was extremely salty and boring. It left me feeling thirsty. Another note: They microwaved it! It unfortunately tasted like it was microwaved, too.

The tacos are delicious and pack a punch of flavor. The soft and crunchy tacos were tasty — Barbacoa and pork. Unlike other taco joints, the tortilla was actually edible; not dry and nicely warmed. Flour tortillas are far better than corn tortillas. Each came with fresh veggies and a side of mild green salsa and a sour cream based sauce. My taco combo was $ 5.60. There’s a few tables inside but it’s not a large restaurant.

Now that I’ve gone no dairy no wheat no sugar — Asian food is my usual go-to. But wait — traditional Mexican tacos don’t come slathered in cheese and sour cream. The al pastor is my personal favorite — my husband had the veggie tacos which came with enormous slices of avocado. The service is sweet and friendly. The salsas are delicious but spicy(!) Delicioso!

Small place off of 14th street but has plenty of seating. The lady at the counter was warm and welcoming. Note that the tacos come on soft shell corn tortias, so if you prefer hard shells or flour tortias, you’ll have to ask. Luckily I prefer corn, and these were delicious! The carnitas tacos were unbelievably good. I also liked the rice and beans that came with the taco platter. Also they have a 4lb burrito challenge here which is very cool.

These are the kinda days that I appreciate Unilocal the most. Deciding I was in the mood for some tacos I searched for them using my app. This place popped up within walking distance so decided to swing by and check it out. Walking up it appeared to be a slightly shady spot. it appears to be built in a converted garage of some sort. I walked in and no one was there except for a friendly lady standing behind the counter. She greeted me and suggested her favorite meats for tacos. I decided to get the chicken nacho plater, a carnita taco on flour tortilla(comes on corn if you don’t specify), and a barbacoa with flour tortilla. I sat at the table near the front window in a tall chair with padding and a high back… it was extremely comfortable and watched the soccer game while I waited. After about 10 minutes the nice woman yelled over to me ‘foods ready’. I grabbed the plates and a bottle of fresh habanero pepper hot sauce from the fridge next to the counter and went back to my seat. On first appearance everything looked incredible. The chicken nachos were the kind I like and I could tell they layers the toppings throughout the layers of chips. It had black beans onions cheese shredded chicken pickled jalapeños and sour cream. The tacos presented well also with radishes and meats. I put the habanero pepper hot sauce on everything… it was a medium spice hot sauce that really enhanced the flavors. The nachos were just what I was hoping for. A bit of toppings on every chip! Melty cheese with shredded chicken really nailed the spot that I was aiming to hit when ordering them. The carnita taco with flour shell was the best carnita taco I’ve ever had. The meat was cut finely and had the most succulent flavor. The barbacoa was also super moist and flavorful just barely coming in second to the carnita in the taste race. All said and done I am hands down going to make this a regular spot for Mexican and suggest you swing through for some delicious carnita tacos. I’m excited to get moving on more of the menu.

More of a 3.5 star burrito. Solid but nothing to do out of your way for. Also, it’s not on the menu but you can get a fish burrito for $ 10.
