It’s not that anything was bad here, its that there’s nothing special about paying almost $ 20 for steak and eggs that you could have made at home for more than half the price yourself. I went during the winter and there is about 10 counter stools. I guess the restaurant has been here a long time but so what.

Came on Halloween and the wait was rather long, however it was worth it. Bummer that I had to sit outside in the cold, but the hot chocolate, hot dog, and funnel cake fries made up for it. I know this is technically a breakfast place, but it really hit the spot for a midnight snack.

I have a hard time justifying paying much for foods that are made from simple preparation of common ingredients. It typically think that preparation and uniqueness is worth paying/waiting. Osman’s really does not fit into that category, and yet I find the food such a draw. Combine the freshly cooked(I got country fried steak and eggs) with the 24hr operation of this diner, and I think there is something to be celebrated here. My steak was so fresh(the hot kind), not too greasy(which is all too common for dinner eggs and hash), and the toast was crispy yet soft at the core. Really like the freshness of the simple ingredients. Is it worth it? It’s the type of business and product that makes you think other things could taste just as good; so yea. I’ll be back.

I’ve been going here since I was seven years old, and have never experienced a bad meal. The friendly staff aims to please, and who doesn’t love a restaurant that’s always open?

This place is great — Retro, in a good way. Super authentic — please don’t renovate! Food is good, fresh, cooked right in front of you if you sit inside at the counter. Service is always friendly and fast. Plus it’s open 24 hours — woo hoo!

I love this place. I come here quite often and have never been disappointed. The waffles are my favorite but I look forward to trying other items on their menu!

SteakNEgg is classic with a broad breakfast, sandwich, burger, supper menu with sides ranging from funnel cakes to biscuits and gravy. Be it 1PM or 1AM you won’t be disappointed. I have two boys and we want a boys night out or just time to chat two or all three of us will hit the SteakNEgg for a milkshake and burger. We love sitting on the stools at the counter, laughing and talking. It’s our place! So, atmosphere, food and all… It’s a great place to hang out.

The food is good, but nothing to write home about. Ordered a burger and fries, other orders in the party included a chicken sandwich and eggs and biscuits. The last order in our group was simply jalapeño poppers and fries. We all recieved our meals and finished them before the poppers or fries were ready. We then asked to speak to the manager, and when we inquired as to why isn’t took so long, replied that«we have a lot in the frier, takes a while.» He was beyond rude and not even close to accommodating. I would NEVER return to this dump. There are plenty of better places in the area to get late night other than this place, so terrible.

The diner we’ve been looking for! Now, I know you drunk American students rave about this when you’re turnt, though I want to rave when I was quite the opposite. Completely sober at 3pm on a Saturday, I was craving something that is not common in DC –cheap diner food. After trying to talk ourselves out of it, we decided to jump in a car and go hunt for the alleged«best diner in DC.» Let me write this one in, it is and they are expanding! I could tell you about the biscuits and gravy, perfectly shaped hash browns, loads of eggs loaded with everything you’d like, and a water who’s size can only be compared to drinks seen on the popular show«Parks and Recreation.» Though nothing will capture the experience you will have there unless you go try it yourself. Go before it gets cold and treat yourself to the greatest pick of the diner crop.

My friend and I walked here for breakfast on Saturday morning. It was pretty busy but we got seated at the counter inside. Inside is pretty nostalgic and reminiscent of an old time diner. The girl who served us was friendly. Both my friend and I got burgers. I got the Brazilian Burger but only the single. It comes with bacon, ham, egg, and cheese. I love breakfast burgers with an egg on it. However, here they cooked the eggs scramble style. I prefer the egg sunny side up so the yoke runs a little. I was disappointed — not sure if you can order how it is cooked. My friend got the jalapeño cheddar burger. We both left very full. The burgers were delicious. I didn’t order the funnel cake fries because I was too full after eating my burger. But I saw some orders go out from behind the counter. I wanted to steal one pretty bad! I am dreaming about them and dealing with an intense case of FOMO(fear of missing out). Next time!

My favorite restaurant in the Tenleytown area, by far. Good prices, great country fried steak. Conveniently open 24 hours. The shakes are great, a bit expensive though. It has the perfect diner feel, something that’s hard to find in DC. Come try it!

Decently priced, quick, and convenient. The taste of the food is nothing to write home about but it’s good considering how quick they get you your food and the price. I’ve only picked up from here but I hope to sit down at the counter one day and hang out with the regulars. It seems like they treat their regulars well because I always see the same people in there! Also, the 24-hour part isn’t too shabby.

I eat here at least twice a week. The food and service are predictable. Average food, fast service, regulars are treated well. The menu is simple with all the diner favourites. The prices are excellent. I prefer counter service. But lots of folks love the out door places. The crew is well rehearsed and efficient. Even when busy the get the orders out quickly.

This is not Ruth’s Steakhouse or Morton’s. Once you get over that and adjust your expectations, it’s decent, but certainly no bargain. Plenty of entertainment if you sit inside at the counter on a Sunday morning and watch the cooks at work. So it’s ok. Not in my best 100 or something I would miss if it went away, but it’s ok.

So, this place was a great idea… at first. We(11 of us total) came here after a long night in DC. The wait for the tables out front was a bit long, since others seemed to have the same idea, but we didn’t mind at all. The wait staff were dressed really relaxed… no seriously. One waiter was wearing slippers! We were seated at a patio table that fit all of us. Yippee! I ordered the Philly Steak and Eggs with fries and a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake. The food took quite a while to come out, of course, so I finished my milkshake before the food even came and had to ask for a water. The shake was delicious, I have to admit. They don’t blend the shake toppings up all the way… I loved it, but my friend hated it. If you’re anything like me, you’ll love having a crunchy treat at the bottom of the cup! The Philly Steak and Eggs were… eh, ok. The eggs were runny and they were scrambled! The steak was covered… no, smothered, in gravy, which would have been fine had there not been more gravy than there was steak. Next thing you know, a food fight broke out at a nearby table! It escalated very quickly. It was loud, dangerous and kept going on for way too long. The staff didn’t even ask them to stop. So, we asked for our check… which was written in some kind of waiter shorthand. We couldn’t understand anything on there, other than the big total circled on the back of the paper. We didn’t realize you’re not allowed to split the check(there’s a sign out front, but we missed it.) Some of us had cash and some had credit. Imagine our large group trying to figure all this out while a food fight is going on at the adjacent table! After 30 mins of going back and forth, a waiter finally had pity on us and split up the check. What an ordeal. I didn’t hate this place, but I don’t think I had a great experience. My suggestions: 1. Make sure you take cash if you have a large group. 2. Be prepared for a wait whenever you go, it’s a small place. 3. Do yourself a favor… order the Funnel Cake Fries! Just do it.

The setting: Saturday afternoon, outdoor seating. Feeling optimistic and understanding about the potential limitations of a busy greasy spoon(it’s Saturday afternoon for god’s sake, I am filled with love and compassion… the world is a beautiful place)… We waited 30m to be seated… but that’s cool. It’s a beautiful day. After waiting for 10 minutes empty handed I asked for menus… Didn’t get them. I got up and grabbed a few for my table. Asked for water… didn’t get that either. I got up and asked again for the water and finally got it. Ordered food, only after getting up and asking the server to come to our table, waited just over an hour only to receive 75% of what we ordered — half of which was already cold. The waffles weren’t just luke warm… they were cold. Eggs were cold too. Asked for the bill… and as we were leaving the kids food finally arrived(we were so desperate to escape this purgatory that we went somewhere else to get food for the kids). S&E could have it all — they have the name, the location, the awesome story, the history… I wanted to believe… I wanted to like this place so much. I’ve been to many greasy spoons around the country. I didn’t come here expecting a fine dining experience. It is not an exaggeration to say that this place was my biggest greasy spoon let down. I wanted to love you. I tried. But you broke my f’ing heart.

Casual breakfast spot around tenleytown. I’ve been here early in the morning before going to bed and early after getting up and either way its a great fit. Sitting is mostly outside. Plastic chairs and very simple silverware and such. Not a fancy place but who cares. You come for the food. Portions are huge. Pancakes, omelettes, fried eggs everything I’ve gotten is very good. Family friendly . You may have to wait for a table, but usually not long

The reviews don’t do O&J justice, this is a perfect reasonably priced(very) little classic diner, much more in line with the kind of diner you’d find in Pennsylvania than in DC. I’d recommend it. Portions are big, things are cooked fresh, and I particularly enjoyed the potatoes and the chili. Don’t expect to be causally chatting there for hours: there is indeed only 12 seats and you’ll get your food fast. And it gets hot. Tip: There is plenty of street parking in the side streets, even though the place is located on busy Wisconsin.

I LOVESTEAKANDEGG!!! Expect a dinner, and dinner food it’s the most casual place to eat and in my opinion the short order cook gets it right every time.
