3.5 stars I have been on the hunt for a new barbershop for awhile. After walking by a few times I decided to try this place out and I was pleased. The barbers were all friendly and very talkative. And the atmosphere didn’t feel like I was in a salon. As for the haircut, I was satisfied with it. I do not think they have a lot of white customers, so I got the impression they were a little less comfortable cutting my hair. A little shorter than I would prefer, but I think I could of been more instructive as to what I was looking for. Having said that, the edges are on point and make up for the top. Haircut prices weren’t listed anywhere, but I paid $ 25 plus tip. For DC that isn’t bad. I will probably try a few more places before settling here. With that said, I wouldn’t rule out returning.

Finding a decent barber shop in the city can be very painful and difficult — especially when you live near the Bloomingdale/Truxton Circle Area of Washington DC. When I stumbled into Ordinary People’s Barbershop it was somewhat of a refreshing end to a series of embarrassing failuresand laughably stupid blunders that happened as result of trying local barbershops. For example, I walked into one place on North Capital Street which was traditionally African-American and I’m sure the last thing they expected to see was a confused-looking Arab like myself stumbling into their shop — you should have seen their faces. In another instance, I made an appointment to another place on U-street and I was floored to see that I would be set back $ 50. The draw of this of course was that it included a 2-minute massage by a defeated looking woman and a shot of some cheap Yellow Tail Chardonay. I have a weird-shaped head and a receding hairline and when I go into one of these barbershops, I am only interested in finding a place where a barber knows how to give me an extension of my young adult years. I’m not looking for one of these new hipster trends of getting a shot of whiskey, or glass of cheap wine, or a grilled cheese sandwich, or whatever with a haircut — I just want a haircut! When I stumbled into Ordinary People, I thought it would be a repeat of previous experiences but much to my delight the guys were very friendly and very receptive to my presence. We chit-chatted about football and basketball, and about life, and the guy chiseled away at my head which yielder solid results. It could be a little cheaper but I’m just like that. I’ll definitely give them a go again if I need a haircut on the fly.
