Update 2015: this«Food Rite» is less-stocked than a soviet grocery store. No milk, produce or meat — only packaged candy, basic cleaning products, and soda. I have no idea how it stays in business, and mourn the loss of a practical small business to buy food from. Skip this empty excuse for a store. At least Save A Lot across the street carries products.

Great addition to Eckington. Its super convenient and the guys that own it are almost always there and very nice. I have personally witnessed them keep their cool and be polite to some customers who were just plain nasty and should have been asked to leave. Good selection for the size for the store. I wouldnt recommend that it is your #1 grocery store, but its freat for short trips when youre in a hurry or dont want to have wander around giant for half an hour.

This place just reopened(so any earlier reviews are for the prior establishment) and it is legit. I am so stoked to have a local grocery store in the area. First off, the hours are solid — they’re open til 10 on weekends and 9 during the week, which is WAY better than Save a Lot. The new owners seem super nice, the selection is decent and they make it clear that they’ll try to order anything that they don’t yet have in stock. Really hope this place does well!

This place actually opened back up. I give it 4 stars because ‘Yay! I’m a fan.’ But for real I am, they just re-opened and i live across the street so it’s incredibly convenient. Their produce is INCREDIBLY cheap. I don’t go to the save-a-lot up in that parking lot across the street but compared to Giant prices up near rhode island row, the New Star Supermarket(which I think is now called food rite) has either cheaper prices or the same prices Since they re-opened I think they are trying to figure themselves out still, like how much produce they should be getting, how long to hold onto it, etc. etc. But i respect that. They need to figure out their inventory, supply chain, etc. The owner always tells me to let him know if there’s anything they need to get for us which is whats up cuz I want whole milk, hummus, ovaltine, etc. and they don’t have it but they are clearly making an effort to get it. I hope this plays stays in biz

I think this place is closed now, but I went once and it had a sign saying«Please remove masks and hoods before entering the store.»
