I had an amazing time at Mr. Henry’s! My first time hearing about this DC staple on Unilocal,a friend and I decided to go for drinks and dinner on a Friday night. It was not packed at all, and while waiting for my friend, I went to the bar for happy hour to kill some time. The bartender was very friendly and attentive and it gave me that neighborhood-like feel right off the back. Once my friend arrived, we got a table and ordered, and the food was well cooked and served promptly. As the waiter chatted and laughed with us, we came to find out about the place’s history, and loved how far back this establishment went in the DC area. I would definitely come back, if not for the hospitality, but for the good food and great people.

Wasnt a good experience, food came after 35 minutes and the waiter wasn’t that friendly. The water was from the tap«terrible taste». Sitting outside was a mistake in spite of the beautiful weather smokers ruined it. I dont think there will be another time at Mr. Henrys

Mr. Henry’s is better than ever! The flat bread pizza gave me pause, as Henry’s is not supposed to change. But it was great. The happy hour specials rock. So glad we stopped in. Mike was our waitperson and he was marvelous!

Amazing history, great food, fantastic service! Loved the diversity among customers and the welcoming waiter. Ask the waiter for the story of Mr. Henry and all the photos of performers on the wall. Felt like coming home.

My colleagues and I had a happy hour on their second floor bar last week. We had about 25 people in attendance and had a great time! The happy hour specials were well priced, and the food was great! We especially loved their kind staff members and the space was perfect for an event this size. We are hoping to have many more happy hours/gatherings in the future and are hoping to stay for the live music next time.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner the other night and we were a fan! It was a cozy environment and the staff was friendly and welcoming. We took advantage of the happy hour, which we were excited about since it was a Saturday. For food I ordered a salmon BLT which was delicious, and my BF got the fish n chips which he said was decent. We will definitely come check it out after the renovations are finished!

Stopped in here for a quick bite before an appointment. Was sat immediately, this was during the warmer weather so I chose to sit outside. So as I’m sitting, I notice a lot of bugs around me. I’m like ok, whatever, I’ll swat them away and it will be fine. After dealing with this for about 15 minutes, I moved tables. More bugs! I was getting eaten alive. I came away from a simple half hour lunch with massive bug bites on my feet, which I now have scars from. The food could’ve been much, much better. My waiter, however, was incredibly friendly, sweet, and attentive.

I was there with my fiancée and two friends and we all enjoyed our meal. The meal came quickly and all the orders were correct. I had the Shroom burger medium rare with sautéed onions. The burger was massive, and super juicy. The thick cut homemade chips were yummy. I’d never been and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the fascinating history of the bar.

We love Mr. Henry’s. The burgers are fantastic and the service is even better. I get the black bean burger, which is spicy and delicious. Be sure to get the Hot Cocoa with a butter bump. It’s the perfect Winter drink!

Stopped by Sunday night for Wings. In an age of over produced, plastic bars, this is just what DC needs, a chill gay bar in the Southeast. Only thing that’s missing is a karaōke night!

I always find Mr. Henry’s a nice, simple standby when you don’t want to get too creative with your dining. They have a nice sandwich selection and I almost always get a burger or a reuben. Their homemade fries and chips are very tasty. Service is friendly a quick, an old standby on Capitol Hill. When I walk in there, I always wonder why they are still open? It’s hardly ever busy and is pretty run down looking.

The Food is good for«bar» food. I always get the fish and chips. Nothing else I eat anymore. However, while dining in their outdoor area under their canopies, I began to notice many patrons were smoking. In my opinion that was very offensive. Spoiled my dinner. Even though a place has outdoor dining doesn’t mean people should be allowed to smoke on the premises. It felt like a 1980’s smoking section of a restaurant.

Very disappointed in the Monday night burger I just had. While the atmosphere was fine, and the waitress was great, the food was not up to the great level I had experienced many times before. The hamburger was mostly made from filler(it had a strange pink look) and was tasteless, the bun was stale and cold, the french tries were burnt and dry, and the onion rings were just OK. I ate less than half of my meal because it was so bad. My husband reported the same problems with his burger and reported a stomach ache shortly after we finished.

If you’re looking for a warm & cozy spot on Capitol Hill for hefty portions of traditional food, this is the place for you. It’s an institution that I prefer to most of the upscale places in the neighborhood with their high prices & tiny helpings. Of the 4 items my husband & our friends had, the turkey club sandwich was the best. The chicken quesadilla got good reviews as well. The crab cake sandwich & the fish & chips I had were only mediocre. Our waitress was friendly & efficient. The setting was a plus, too – sort of scruffy men’s club.

You can’t go wrong with Mr. Henry’s, the place that helped launch Roberta Flack. Fantastic nightly dinner specials. Happy hour wings & margaritas are always winners. Plus I like that happy hour is 4 – 7 _&_ 10-midnight. Tim & Chuck are the best bartenders in DC! Charming, engaging, and of course wonderfully handsome. Friday night fried chicken is a must. Half-price burgers Monday nights. & all you can eat fish & chips Sunday!!! The recently renovated upstairs is gorgeous, with jazz most Friday nights. Patio seating for those gorgeous DC evenings.

I bought a Unilocal coupon and decided to use it for Saturday brunch with my girlfriend. The mimosas and food were as expected and the service was great. The place has some shabby décor, you know like a saloon kind of feel so I decided to have a seat outside. This place also has live jazz throughout the week which I’m sort of interested in a seeing at some point. I’ve also tried their burger which is rumored to be one of the best in DC. I’d give the burger a 7/10, the patty was great, the toppings were meh, needles to say it didn’t knock me off my feet. If you’re in the area and the more popular establishments are too crowded then you can’t go wrong with Mr. Henry’s.

In a good location near eastern market and the capitol, but overall not a good experience. My girlfriend and I stopped here for just some drinks and to get out of the sun after going to the market. She ordered their bloody mary. It took 20 minutes for it to get to her and it tasted like watery salsa. Not good. The waitress was nice enough and they played great classic rock. When we wanted to get the check there were no waiters to be found and we had to wait another 20 minutes just for our server to take care of it. Thus was in spite of the fact that there were only 6 other people in the whole place besides us

Go for the outdoor patio. Interior décor is classic/original wood and velvet benches; very unique. Food is average priced but tasty, drinks are cheap with a few average priced specials. Highly recommended, although it DOES close slightly early for a bar!

So, they have a jukebox. It’s 12 songs for $ 5 how can you go wrong with that? I used the frequent the Hill, and when a friend suggested Mr. Henry’s for happy hour I thought to myself, how haven’t I been there? We set the date and ventured down to Mr. Henry’s last night. Let’s just say, it was awesome. I will absolutely be coming back for their Jazz nights and dinner! Happy hour is a strong bet. Drinks Select Draft Beer, Rail Drinks, House Wines — $ 4 Fireball — $ 5 House Margarita, House Long Island, Jameson — $ 6 House Long Island Ice Tea 6 Food(all $ 6) Hummus Plate, Chilled Spiced Large Shrimp, Bacon Cheese Fries, Pulled Pork BBQ Sliders, Nachos, Henry’s Wings The cheese fries are more like wedges it’s kind of like a loaded potato but more deconstructed. The wings look awesome and come with bbq, buffalo or an old bay option. The nachos are your classic happy hour nachos nothing to spread the word about. Thanks to our awesome waitress(HSO to Marinda) for explaining the menu and giving us her true opinion on the food options. It made our happy hour at Mr. Henry’s that much more enjoyable. Also I want to point out, on Wednesdays it’s Little Italy night: Pasta Dinner– 2 pastas, 3 sauces, side Italian salad, garlic toast seconds on pasta & salad $ 16. That sounds like a pretty incredible deal. If you are on the Hill and looking for some stiff drinks, good service and a new place check out Mr. Henry’s.

Food was decent but the service was nonexistent. Granted we came with a large group, however I don’t believe that excuses the ridiculous wait times at every point of our visit. The waitress miscounted our drinks and even then we all didn’t get our drinks until we got our meals. We had to remind her about our food and her coworker had to get the food for us. All the plates were cleared and we were still waiting for our check. When asked, she forgot our orders so we had to remind her. Then, instead of getting our checks, she started doing inventory of beers. We asked for our checks again and she had the audacity to give us attitude as if we were being impatient. Our friends were able to shop around the Eastern Market area and come back before we finally got the check. Really, lady? And when we finally got the check, they charged a 20% gratuity. We were a big group, but considering her incompetence, that’s a ballsy move. I hope the tip went to her far more capable and likable coworker with the cool hair. Edit after Owner response(2015.08.07): Originally I had the business at 1⁄5. I’m going to change this to 3⁄5 since the owner is addressing the main problem I had while we were at his establishment. Doing this will pretty much negate the main problem I had at his establishment. A 3⁄5 still hurts the business’ overall rating but it is a more fair one if the problem has been addressed. I am taking the owner’s word that the problem has been handled.

Literally stumbled into Mr. Henry’s on a whim one day just window menu shopping along Penn Ave. Place has a quaint pub atmosphere, kind of dated interior. For lunch fare, felt the menu was overpriced. Waiter we had was a bit odd. The menu posted outside was old, so they wouldn’t honor the prices that enticed us to actually walk in… but I digress. I ordered The Famous Turkey Club(if you want cheese, it’s an extra dollar for ONE slice of frickin American cheese)…again, I digress… the sandwich was good. Nice post-it pad thick slices of turkey on the sandwich… it was a good switch from the traditional deli style turkey most of the places in the area sell. To accompany the club, the provided me with literally«5» of their housemade potato chips with it. FIVE. So for $ 14.50 I had a turkey sandwich with 5 chips on the side. After tip, I ended up spending $ 17.50…for lunch… for a turkey club. Ridic. While the sandwich was really good, it’s safe to say I will not be dining here again until they get more realistic with their prices.

I spend an embarrassing percentage of my life here since it’s so close to work and the happy hour prices are *out of this world*. But Mr. Henry’s is what it is: a good place to grab happy hour. It’s not a great place for food in general. I mean, I eat it a lot, but it’s never all that good. If you are looking for cheap drinks and a general clean-divey feel, this is your place.
