Excellent service. Excellent food. Pleasant ambiance. The fish is always spectacular and their crepes are exquisite — buckwheat, like crepes are supposed to be. The isle de flotante is the best I’ve ever had and their tarts are without fail spectacular. I prefer this place to le diplomat, convivial or any number of French eateries in town.

Sandwiches were humongous! Omelettes were unique, but tasty. Hearty portions and good service for a hole-in-the wall joint. Good drink options for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Recommend walking the Eastern Market right before lunch and stopping here for brunch. Thanks for the surprise, Montmartre!

What can I say about Montmartre that hasn’t already been said? I went there for brunch and was pleased with it, especially the flourless chocolate tart. There was no parking close by, but the wait wasn’t horrendous and it’s right across from the farmer’s market, so great people watching. Of the three dishes my friends and I had for brunch, the eggs benedict were by far my favorite, but everything was fairly scrumptious. The Croque Monsieur was okay, but a little tough to eat.

We had the duck. the pork chop and the rabbit, the crème burlee and a scoop of pistachio. the food was great, but we werent too convinced with the ice cream. By all means, go check them out. I would go back for the food, it is a little cozy establishment, but I definitely see how it could get super loud once all the tables are taken. Id recommend it during the week, since it tends to be quieter.

Came for brunch with friends and received great service and had an amazing few dishes. I enjoyed the endive salad. The mussels were delicious; super fresh and large in a well seasoned broth. I had the quiche which was awesome. Super rich and delicious, packed with veggies and cheese. Service was attentive and prompt. My only gripe is their coffee was just okay, which normally I wouldn’t mention but hey it’s brunch.

This place is pretty good if you’re looking for standard french fare. I was very conflicted between giving it 3 stars versus 4 stars, but finally settled on 3 due to some issues with service(explanation below). The food here is quite good, albeit nothing spectacular. My boyfriend took me last night and we started with the cheese plate. The plate came with three delicious cheeses, but the waiter didn’t bother to tell us what the cheeses were, so we had no idea what we were eating. The cheese came with some nice, standard accompaniments, including dried fruit and candied walnuts. My boyfriend and I both ordered the beef bourguignon for our entrees. The meat was good, but far too salty to the point where it was hard to taste the burgundy wine or other flavors in it. The mashed potatoes that came with it were the delicious, creamy, buttery goodness you expect from mashed potatoes, but there was only a little on the plate. A few tablespoons more might have balanced the salt content in the meat. We ended with the chocolate mousse, which was yummy. We each had a few glasses of wine, and found the pours to be relatively generous. The service was pleasant, but spotty. We totally missed the specials because our waiter didn’t tell us what they were, or even that they had them. Halfway through our meal, I noticed some specials written on a difficult-to-see chalkboard by the bar. It would have been nice to know that they existed BEFORE we ordered. As mentioned above, the waiter also didn’t explain the cheeses on the cheese plate, which is usually standard practice if the cheeses aren’t listed on the menu. The waiter was friendly when he was around, but he was difficult to flag down and didn’t really check on us. When he did stop at our table, he seemed like he was in a hurry to move on, which is a little off-putting. The ambience is nice here. Super intimate and nice for a date. All in all, I was happy here, but I feel like a few small tweaks to the food and service could have made this a 4 star experience dining experience.

Really authentic French cuisine. My biggest challenge in this restaurant was choosing one entrée. I had the the Onion Soup to start and the Beef Bourguignon which was absolutely perfect. There are plenty of other traditional options that I will certainly go back for in the near future.

Party of 9 arrived at 6:30pm Saturday night, we had a the long table against the window– my first thought was«dang it’s small in here» but it didn’t seem to affect the experience. other than the woman next to us literally yelling«WECANTALKREALLYLOUDLYTOO» and her husband embarrassingly asking her to not be so rude. Anyways, I had a kier royal(sp?) it was yummy. and a garden salad(wish I hadn’t stuffed myself at a 1 year old’s bday party earlier). Our check for the table came on one bill all handwritten– it was confusing with the amount of people but we worked it out between the table(gratuity included). I can’t give much more than 3 stars having only had a salad and 1 drink. not sure I’ll be back though, nothing really drew me in.

I went to Montmartre for a gf’s birthday dinner the other night and found them to be extremely accommodating of a large group with everything except for the check(I’ll get to that). We all got the restaurant at 6:30 on a Saturday night and they had seated us right in the window, so it was easy to find our table. The server we had was gracious and helpful, he offered great service without hovering and interacting with him was one of the best parts of the experience. I was impressed with the cocktail list, and loved my tasty bourbon concoction. Our table ordered aps and everyone was impressed by what was shared. I LOVED the grilled octopus and the steak tartare! The french onion soup and the cheese plate were also big hits. As for main courses, I was less impressed. I ordered the Cassoulet and my husband ordered that night’s featured Rockfish. I thought my duck was overcooked, although it had a lovely crispy skin, it was too dry for my taste and the beans it lay atop were not fully cooked-they were still crunchy in the middle. My husband’s Rockfish, on the other hand, was not cooked all the way through. That said, the Endive & Pear Salad and steak specials a couple of our other friends ordered were perfect. I think we were the only two at a table of 8 with any issue, so we didn’t bother saying anything. When we asked for the check I was surprised to receive a two sided hand written bill. I know some places don’t automatically split out checks, but that made for an interesting experience trying to split the bill. Fortunately when I asked for a slip of paper and a pen they didn’t give me a hard time, so we pulled off the salads two of my gf’s had and just split the rest evenly between three couples. Just something to note if you are going in a mixed group and want to split checks. Overall I thought it was a decent evening. Great company, great location and good food=A OK by me.

The 411: this is a nice DC famous restaurant with a French style menu that serves brunch and dinner. I came here once with 2 other friends. I got the eggs Benedict and the others got an omelet and quiche florentine. It was a bit noisy inside, but the restaurant is clean and the staff are accommodating and friendly. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their dishes, and the servings were generous. Nobody left hungry, that’s for sure! The eggs Benedict was great! The English muffin was slightly toasted and had a decent smear of butter on it. On top was the bed of wilted spinach, which was great to help cut through all of the richness. The pancetta was like a mild, thin cut and crispy bacon. It was good, but a bit more crispy meat would’ve helped cut through the hollandaise and egg yolk. The eggs were poached perfectly. They were round and soft with a beautifully runny yolk. The hollandaise was rich and frothy, but mild. There was a fair amount of it on the plate, which in my opinion was a little too much. I’m looking for a symphony of flavor, but the hollandaise section of the band was just a little too forte, y’know? Bottom line: this place is decently priced and has really good food. If you’re feelin French, go ahead and give this place a try. You’ll like it!

3.5 It was good, not great. We had a lamb and goat cheese omelette which was very good but the smoked salmon Benedict wasn’t very good. The fingerling potatoes were slightly bland but still alright with the aioli. Potatoes are always delicious. The service and coffee were both great.

Solid four stars for this place. They nail the Parisian neighborhood of Montmarte feel just right, and while it feels at home in the bourgeois of Eastern Market on a Sunday afternoon, damn if we were not cute. The waiter was impeccable and so-wonderfully-French, which means that you shouldn’t expect any doting, but prompt service — when it decides to happen, that is. But I wouldn’t stress the bill, especially sitting outside on a balmy afternoon where you can sip at your coffee and wonder what gelato flavours next door you’re going to try. But now to the real winner here: the eggs benedicte with Salmon. I know, I know, call me a sell-out, but hell if I wasn’t going to be swanky doing it. Presentation is instagram worthy and tastes it too. There was a bit too much spinach on the dish for my taste, but I was delighted by the hollandaise sauce and the soft feeling of salmon in my mouth. Everything worked harmoniously, and you could say I near gobbled it up. For a person of my size, portion size left me happy in the belly without feeling heavy. There’s still always room for dessert, but that would go to the store next door,(where I’d highly suggest their sipping chocolate) The ham croque was heavy on the smoked ham, and I only had a bite for those reasons. Still, the bread came close to what one might find in a Parisian bakery, and the butter tasted real. And whoever«Paul» is, must remain a mystery, but if it is you dear chef, thank you for a perfectly romantic Sunday brunch.

Came here for lunch. Service was good. I thought the food was okay. The bowl the French onion soup came in was more interesting than the soup itself. The beet salad needed something to offset the sweetness of the beets and the candied walnuts. The primavera tartine tasted like soggy vinegar toast. Not sure if I will try again…

4.5 stars. I’ve come here several times in the past 3 years, and the food has been consistently solid and my experiences with our servers and host have been always pleasant. It is a great date spot if you are looking for a lighthearted date while enjoying delicious food. 1. I recommend anything with their red wine sauce. They change their menu constantly, but I’ve had their duck and hanger steak with red wine sauce, and they were excellent. 2. Mussels are always my favorites. Smaller than the ones at Black Salt in DC, but still wonderful. Marinieres mussels are highly recommended and I love eating it with bread. Comes with plenty of broth so try dipping the bread pieces in. 3. Need to make reservations. Sometimes the restaurant can get very crowded and need to wait. 4. Their pan roasted pork chop was superb. Thick enough to make it taste almost like eating delicious steak– loved the taste of the slightly burnt fat.

Farmer’s Market + Brunch = Sunday morning greatness. Came here for ladies’ brunch with my cousin & her gal pals. Sunday brunch, it’s a jolly good time in any city! The best is when there is a farmer’s market right outside the restaurant! We got here right when it opened & were seated within minutes. The restaurant is small but has plenty of outdoor seating. The staff is friendly & provide good customer service. I ordered the quiche lorraine which was delish! Each of my fellow diners got their dishes. Let’s just say eggs benedict was popular and it looked so good! The quiche lorraine had the perfect amount of bacon, swiss cheese & onion ratio. It was warm, fluffy & tasty! Definitely, hit the spot for this brunch gathering. The coffee was just as good & I didn’t need creamer! Then again, I do like my coffee without creamer. It was strong & perfect. The croque madame looked really good too! We split dessert because why not??? We got the crème brûlée & chocolate soufflé, classics! Both were very yummy & the coffee just enhanced their flavors. I felt like I was in France, sitting there, sipping coffee & eating amazingly portion appropriate French food. Definitely a must brunch place!

Montmartre is a French restaurant, located in the Eastern Market neighborhood. They offer brunch, lunch, and dinner items, such as salads, quiche, Croque Monsieur, steamed mussels, crepes, sandwiches, fish, and duck. I came here before for dinner and had somewhat of an underwhelming experience — I was glad to re-visit and give them another try with a couple of dear friends of mine: D We started off with some mussels — Marinieres — a white wine broth with shallots, garlic, and parsley — this had a sharp salty taste to it, that was good with the crusty bread, but I wished it was a bit thicker/creamier. I had the Seared Hanger Steak, which came with potato purée, trumpet mushrooms, pearl onions, swiss chard, and a red wine sauce — this was pretty tasty, as the steak was cooked a medium well, had a nice little crisp exterior, and the trumpet mushrooms were pretty fabulous with the red wine sauce. The hubs had the Pan Roasted Pork Chop, which came with garbanzo beans, roasted brussels sprouts, garlic sausage, dried figs, and a whole grain mustard jus — he stated that it was pretty okay dish, and the pork chop itself was cooked nicely throughout. Service was super friendly and attentive, and it was a nice little dinner. Just note that they have daily specials as well. +Seared Hanger Steak +friendly staff and service +limited metered parking around the area

Was in D.C. for a weekend visiting my friend and we decided to have brunch here after strolling through the farmer’s market nearby. We were promptly seated by a friendly hostess and our server came by to greet us shortly after. We sat in their outdoor patio since it was such as beautiful day. Everything on the menu looked delicious, I decided to get the Smoked Salmon Benedict and they were fantastic! We also got the mango mimosas which tasted crisp and refreshing. Overall experience was excellent! Definitely a good place for tasty brunch if you are nearby the Eastern Fresh Market.

This place is amazing. For brunch order the: red wine sangria, a basket of bread for the table, fingerling potatoes with black pepper aioli, and the roasted lamb tartine with cartelized onions, feta, and frisee. My husband and I both dined here for under $ 50 and it was honestly one of the most delicious meals I have had in a while!

3.5 stars Boyfriend took me here for our anniversary dinner on a weeknight. There is seating both inside the restaurant and outside. We wanted to take advantage of the temperate DC summer evening and snagged a table outside. Service was attentive and on point. Montmartre has a pretty extensive wine and beer list which is always a plus. I enjoyed a glass of a bordeax blend and the boyfriend enjoyed a DuPont saison. For appetizers, we ordered the escargot prepared in the traditional«Mere Anne» style in cupped holes of shallots, pastis, and parsley-garlic butter. Snails were plump and juicy in texture while the sauce gave just the right amount of garlicy goodness without overpowering the snail. Executed and prepared very well. We also ordered the mussels poulette prepared with garlic, white wine, shallots, fresh parsley and cream. Mussels were cooked perfectly– plump and juicy in their shells and the sauce only enhanced the sweetness of the mussel flesh. Mussels done right! For main course, I ordered the duck breast served atop barley, mashed potatoes. Duck was cooked to my liking of medium rare although both duck and barley seasoned with a bit too much salt. Boyfriend ordered the special pork loin. For dessert we split a berry topped custard tart which was pretty good as well. Would like to go back for their crème brulee. Great French spot in Eastern Market.

Is it too cheesy to say that lunch at Montmartre took me back to Paris? It really isn’t a hyperbole though; the food, atmosphere, and overall dining experience remind me of quiet French bistros that put their soul into their food. It’s that good. The prime spot to people watch and leisurely enjoy your meal is on the patio, overlooking the street market on Sundays. We scored a table for a late lunch; despite arriving 15 minutes to closing of the menu, our server lwas gracious enough to accommodate us. I ordered a lovely, silky and buttery steak tartare, served with toasted baguette, a smear of olive tapenade, and a lightly dressed side salad. Instead of the ubiquitous raw egg and onion, it was mixed with a delicious caper aioli. The dish was livened up with fresh chives and a nearly hard boiled egg. Magnifique! The cocktail menu was intriguing, and I can highly recommend the Elysée(vodka, mango juice and champagne) as a beautiful sip for your meal. I am thrilled to have found this little gem in DC, mourn the fact that I live nowhere near for a repeat visit, and look forward with anticipation of an excellent meal when I do return.

Very good little French place. Especially for the price… This place is very reasonable and offers some great seasonal French selections. The service is great. We didn’t have reservations, as we were just in town for the cherry blossoms, but we managed to stage the only two seats they have at their little bar in the front. Their little bar is perfect with for a date because you have the sensory experience of sitting at a bar and seeing the kitchen at work while also having the privacy of your own table because there are only the two seats! The staff is very friendly and most of them speak French(in fact it’s the main language spoken in the restaurant). Which, I don’t know about you, but I love to hear the native tongue of the culture whose food I’m about to eat spoken somewhere in the restaurant. It adds that air of authenticity. We got the farmers pâté and cheese plate and the escargot. It was all very good. They also had Ile Flottante on the dessert menu. Which was so exciting because neither I nor the girlfriend have ever had it. Which, I’ll be honest, is getting pretty rare for us. We’ve pretty much eaten everything, menus rarely surprise us. But back the the dessert, it was amazing! We were pretty stuffed so we didn’t think we’d even put a dent in it, but not even a drop was left by the end. It was the perfect light, mildly sweet, and refreshing ending to the meal. If you go and they still have it on the menu leave a little room for it and a coffee at the end, you won’t be disappointed!

The service, atmosphere, and food were impeccable. My dad has been visiting this place weekly for the past few years, and he says it has yet to disappoint! We were seated right away, despite being very early for our reservation. The restaurant is pretty, understated, and very welcoming. The manager gave us information on his favorite wines. The glass I had was delicious! We typically do apps, mains, and split a side or two, but we weren’t too hungry. The bread they brought out to start was fantastic. I love a good baguette. My dad ordered the duck cassoulet, and I had the seared skate with caramelized cauliflower. Both were absolutely delicious! I wish I had been hungrier to try more items, but I’ll definitely be back again– hopefully soon! Also, they own the pizza place next door, Seventh Hill Pizza, where we stopped for a drink! They had a great selection of beer that my dad enjoyed. Definitely the neighborhood spot for families with small children, so it was a little bit of a zoo!

We stopped at Montmartre on an early Saturday afternoon. There was a wait list for indoor seating but we opted to be seated right away in the outdoor patio. It was a gorgeous albeit a bit chilly day but it was sunny so we decided to brave it. We are seated right by the railing which was right by the two homeless men that argued the entire time. My rating does not reflect that, of course. Service was excruciatingly slow. We waited close to 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Water glasses would remain empty for long periods of time. And there was absolutely no check back after our meal finally arrived. The food was ok with the the highlight being the Brioche French Toast. The Croque Monsieur was ok. It was well prepared with tasty ham. I do prefer the béchamel on the inside as opposed to on top. But that is just a personal preference. One side of the sandwich had a huge glob of the spicy mustard. It literally made my eyes tear and it felt like my throat was on fire. But, of course, my water glass was empty. We will likely return though, because that French Toast was delish!

I was really excited to try this place, because I love French food, but I was completely let down. The place itself is cute and quaint — and quite empty when I arrived in the middle of the week for dinner at around 6(note: it got crowded later, so feel free to make a reservation if you like on opentable). I also loved the staff’s accents too, BUT… When it comes down to it, I rate on food. As an appetizer, I selected the night’s special — a grilled shrimp, goat cheese risotto. The shrimp was great — cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and flavorful. The risotto, however, was a little hard for my taste, although apparently Steph liked it. For my entrée, I chose the mediterranean mussels. They were AWFUL — so much so that I only could stomach one or two before I just stopped. The utter grittiness of the mussels coupled with the watery, odd tasting broth made it just completely inedible. I also thought it was strange that not only did it not come with fries, the restaurant didn’t offer fries as an option at all. What are mussels without fries?! Crazy. Steph’s flat iron steak was pretty tasty, but wasn’t cooked how she requested. It also came with these flat, spongy mushroom stems — at first we couldn’t even figure out what they were by taste. I will say that the French bread they provided was delicious… but I wouldn’t pay this much again for good bread. GOSOMEWHEREELSE!

Food — There’s not too many options which I love; it makes life so much easier when deciding what you want. I enjoyed my Croque Madame($ 13.95) but could really pass on the mustard, especially when it was concentrated on one part. Drinks — I love that they have a mango mimosa($ 6.50). Friendly staff, casual ambiance, and conveniently off Eastern Market metro.

I came here on a whim for Sunday brunch with a couple of friends. I was craving brunch, and French brunch at that. Montmartre served that purpose. Reasonably priced brunch items that were tasty. My problem remained with the service. It was completely shot. It took 15 minutes for the server to get my friend’s coffee. She asked the server twice to get it, yet we still saw her pass our table several times before she finally got the hint when I gave her a glare. It remained like this the whole time. If you have crap service and good food — that’s not enough to entice me to return. The food is the only thing carrying this place… I wouldn’t expect too much being here otherwise. Would it be worth me trekking to again? That’s debatable.
