Ahhhh run away! Lol. Nah I’m jk if you don’t mind the uncleanliness, they have reasonable prices, do fine pedicures, you’re in and out, and they’re nice people. I just can’t come here because of their lil dirty shop. Ugh.

My nails turned out pretty nice, however I wasn’t too satisfied with the place. It wasn’t very clean and I wasn’t sure if their equipment had been disinfected/sterilized. I personally wouldn’t go back there.

Great service, but bad attitudes. The ambiance is your typical rank and file nail salon; nothing luxurious, but you are in and out. The star of the place is Cindy. She is very diligent and meticulous with eyebrow waxing and pedicures. I definitely recommend her!

Went to Modern Nails recently for a mani-pedi, nothing fancy. Color selection was okay but their polish isn’t the highest quality. Next time I will probably bring my own color. They have lots of bright sparkly ones and not so many neutrals. Pedicure was not bad. The chairs were comfortable and the manicurists drain and clean the tubs between each client. My toes were in awful shape and they look much better now. The paint job was just okay, though, not any better than I could have done myself. And the foot/leg massage was perfunctory at best. Manicure was meh. I had to ask to have two of my nails reshaped before she started painting, because they were uneven. The paint job was just not good, very uneven. One day old and it is already chipping. And there was so much polish on the nails that it took forever to dry. The good things about this place: it is close to my house(just 2 blocks away) and cheap($ 30 for mani-pedi on a Saturday; $ 25 Mon-Thurs). Also I didn’t have to wait, even during the Saturday afternoon«rush,» as there always seems to be at least one person free. PS: they don’t airbrush here.

So my hunt in finding someone to do my nails the way I like them is finally OVER thanks to Modern Nails. The store is located in a shopping center with a Safeway, Blockbuster and some other stuff. There’s always a wait when you walk into Modern Nails, but they’re quick and they do their best to get you in and out. You walk in and sometimes someone will greet you and sometimes they’ll nod at you to sign in– depends on how busy they are. I’ve been here a good three/four times now and every single time my nails have lasted me a good 3 – 4 weeks. I get the same thing every time– Permanent pink and white, short with a pedicure. I’ve gotten someone different every time and I’m always satisfied. The pedicures aren’t like Vicky’s in Georgetown where you get the hot stones on your legs and a nice massage to go with it. But the chairs are comfy, the pedicure looks great and my feet are awesomely clean– so I won’t complain. The place isn’t spectacularly clean– especially if you’re use to the pristine places of NW. It reminds me of places I find back in Brooklyn, NY. They’re not sparkling and shiney kind of clean– but they’re hygenic and they always clean up after every person. This isn’t a place I would necessarily send my guests to at the hotel because of its location, but I get complements on my nails almost every day. They look clean, professional and they’re of good quality. My co-workers have asked me where I get them from, most of them don’t care that it’s in the Northeast if they can get nails like mine. The cost is much cheaper as well. Most places in the NW charge me $ 120 and up for a full set, pedicure and eyebrow wax. Modern nails charges me $ 85. I will definitely be coming back here again to get my nails done. If you’re looking to get a normal mani/pedi, I would definitely go somewhere else like Vicky’s in Georgetown or Natural Nails downtown, but if you’re looking for great acrylic nails– I’m recommending Modern Nails.

A while back I stopped going to this place. «Rachel» is not allowed to use the better equipment and it started going down hill. H-Street Corridor/Atlas just isn’t ready to bring on high quality nail salons… back to downtown… urrrrgh. Modern Nails saved the day!!! Particularly, «Rachel» After having the worst ever experience at Ann’s Nails on H Street(supporting the local businesses), I had to run to the post office and I noticed next door at Modern Nails, there was no line two days before Thanksgiving! I looked at the diaster on my nails and toes and thought what the heck but I’m going to ask an open ended question and based on the answer, I’ll take a chance. I walked in and laid my hands down and asked, «what is wrong with this nail job?» She quickly started pointing how the gross inexperience with the nail job and then she asked who did this to me… Awww, the beginning of a beautiful relationship! I don’t have to drive to NOVA for a good nail technician! I can’t guarantee that all the staff are as good as Rachel but at least you have one contact at this nail salon. Off to Boston for the weekend… with beautiful nails and toes.
