Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams

We had a great experience with this location. Will Joyner worked with us. He is great and I highly recommend you work with him. They offer a service where they can come to your home and measure up your rooms and make floor plans with recommendations for items. If you end up placing an order with them, that fee will go towards your furniture purchase.
Before we came here, we went furniture shopping at a ton of places including making a trip up to restoration hardware outlet in Virginia. Furniture shopping is endless and after 10 – 20 stores, we realized MGBW had what we wanted.
MGBW had the style we were looking for. We worked with Will and he gave us multiple floor plan layout options and recommendations. We never felt pressured at all to purchase at all or even certain items. It was a great experience. We are very happy with our purchases and definitely plan to be back in the future and work with Will Joyner again. This was my first purchase with this company and it was a great experience. Even the delivery set up and execution of the delivery ran very smoothly. This location has excellent customer service. You are going to spend a little more but you are getting quality.

Absolutely HORRIBLE service. Went in to look at sofas, dining tables and trays. Ordered a piece and it took four months for delivery. When it arrived, it was completely scratched. I drive to DC to get a replacement and when I showed them they said «well, all the items may be scratched via delivery,» and offered the model version. I mentioned I would just keep what I had I guess since they couldn’t do better and they just let me walk away. With a few grand to spend, I guess they didn’t want my business. Of course the sign on the door says they serve all. Just not well. Thank you for making me a never ever after customer. Distraught by the lack of care and attention.

Gorgeous fabric I bought. Just went broke… just on purchasing upholstery fabric… but it’s gonna be worth it!

PLEASE DON’T BE FOOLED ABOUT THE QUALITY

I haven’t been to this particular outlet but I can certainly speak for the quality of the item they produce. We bought these high end sofas from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. The Gabriel couch was beautiful and I immediately fell in love with it. The cushion which is the most important part of the couch is constructed horribly. Firstly, the inside seams of the cushion cover is not finished yet they expect you to go in there every couple of weeks and fluff the couch. My $ 5 shirt from walmart has finished seams. Needless to say the stitching is falling apart and is threatening the zipper at this point. That’s something you have to bring up within the first year. Sadly, I didn’t realize it was going to be an issue until afterwards.
Secondly, the cushion itself… oh dear Lord… the cushion itself… fluffy and beautiful when you buy it, pointy and bent out of shape when you’ve owned it for a little while. Although the foam itself is doing great (no major sagging issues), the down surround is an unattached zipper «pillow case» 6 inches too big for the cushion. The down bunches up and then the surround starts traveling making the straight edges at the store into these rounded, weird shaped mess insulting the beauty of my living room.
Thirdly, they did not use down proof ticking in their seat cushions. So pretty much every day one of us or the little ones get stabbed by a «birdy feather» as my two year old refers to them. I purchased these random down filled pillows to accent the couch from Kohl’s and after a number of years of use, they have never pricked us with a single feather.

Great selection of modern furniture and fabrics. The staff were super helpful and were never intrusive. They had good f/​u as well. We didn’t actually buy anything but we will keep them in mind in the future.

Very unhappy with their failure to deliver in the promised timeframe. They called to say they would be 2 hours late. I couldn’t be at home at that time. So for the redelivery rather than agreeing to a specific time they would only give me yet another window. That means a second half day away from work and still waiting on these jokers to come through.

I ordered a sofa from MGBW and was impressed with the level of service. Admittedly, I made the trek into DC even though the Tysons location was more convenient (the sales people there never seemed to pay attention to me so I preferred to try the DC location). Joyce was great about walking me through the differences of the sofas that I was plopping myself on while testing out the cushions. Then, she listened to the important characteristics that I wanted in a fabric (a slightly more elegant styling but low maintenance) and sent me home with a bunch of fabric swatches in color variations. I had the opportunity to test out the fabric swatches at home (including dirtying them up to see how they would clean afterwards). Afterwards, I was able to call her back and place my order over the phone which made the process so much easier. Joyce was timely about follow up when the sofa was ready. And the delivery guys were awesome as well.
On top of being beautiful, it’s just a really comfortable couch as well. A perfect addition to our home.

Love this furniture!

The one star is for bad customer service! My experience started off excellent and turned terrible. The one star represents issues with broken furniture upon delivery and lack of follow up from the store letting me know when the new furniture will arrive. I am still waiting for a follow up call. Additionally, they want to wait for a full delivery truck before shipping my furniture. They store is always waiting for the warehouse to provide updates rather then being proactive and calling the warehouse. I am glad I decided not to furnish my entire house from them or I would have no furniture to sit or sleep on.

The one star is for the poor quality of the Carson sofa I purchased. (I also bought matching loveseat). I was shocked the first evening I sat on the sofa in my home on a Tuesday evening. There was little support in the center of the 102 inch sofa. At first I couldn’t tell if the problem was the seat cushion sinking down when I sat on it, or the structure of the sofa not providing enough support in the center area. I advised the salesperson the following morning.
On Saturday I went to Home Depot to buy a piece of plywood the length and width of the sofa under the cushions to put under them on the sofa. It provided sufficient support but I could see the cushion I sat on was compressing. Also, the edge of the plywood was visible which was very unattractive. Within a week or so someone came out to check. I described above to that person but she did not acknowledge any problem and said if I returned products I would be charged the 50% restocking fee.
After a few more days I decided I had to return the products because I was so terribly disappointed in the quality and knew I could not get good use over the usual 10 – 15 years I own sofas in my home. I told the W&G rep I thought I should not be charged the whole 50% restocking fee ($ 2640) since for me this was a quality issue — not changing my mind — but I did not receive any response to this request. I had to return the loveseat because whatever I would buy would need to match. I decided not to buy another model of sofa/​loveseat because I realized I had lost confidence in their products based on this one experience.
So bottom line — the center cushion I sat on for a few hours each evening for less that two weeks was compressed where I sat. It did not spring back and the indentation was very unattractive and to me shocking given the minimal use.
I did learn the sofa structure used straps instead of springs which may explain the lesser support in its center. Also, that the cushions are made using soy — this may not provide the firmness of traditional technology — a guess.

After we purchased our first home our realtor gifted us a MGBW gift certificate.
Fast forward three years and we still hadn’t used the darn gift certificate. Although we live in DC, Logan Circle isn’t the most convenient place to get to (and okay I’m lazy!) so I hadn’t gotten around to checking out the actual showroom recently.
However, while scoping their website I came across a 5×8 rug that would use the total value of the of the gift certificate. Score. I decided to give them a call to see if they would honor my gift certificate over the phone. I talked to Sally and she was extremely helpful. I know I probably sounded super sketchy but after scanning the gift certificate and sending it via email and with approval from her manager she said that we were good to go, woohoo!
I got a hard copy receipt of the transaction in the mail and to cut out the shipping and handling costs (which I believe would have been $ 100) we opted to pick it up at the store.
A few weeks later we got a call from the store and picked up the rug the following weekend. One of the employees brought the rug out from the back, took it out to where our car was out front and put it in our trunk. Easy peezy, we didn’t have to throw our back out or nothing.
I’m glad I had a trouble-​free purchase with MGBW. You gotta love their clean lines and the fact that most of their items are American made. One of these days when I become a lady who lunches I will be coming back someday sans gift certificate to blow a huge wad of cash ;)

After my first review, I heard from the management of the Mitchell Gold store on 14^th street. He raised a good point that they have no control over warranty issues. This is up to the corporate office in North Carolina. So, I will say that I have not had a bad experience with this particular store. In fact, staff there have been cordial and responsive.
More importantly, I then heard from the corporate office in NC. I have to admit that they have gone out of their way to correct all the problems I encountered. I am promised that I will be made completely whole. While my Unilocal review clearly played a part in getting their attention, their response was truly impressive.
After all of this, I can say that this is a company that bends over backwards to stand behind their products. Bravo to Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.
I withhold one star only because it took me a while to straighten out this situation. But, to give them the benefit of the doubt, my previous attempts at fixing my problem could have been the exception to the rule.

Unfortunately, I have to deduct 2 stars due to a customer service experience. Before visiting the store, I’d found a sofa online that I’d been wanting for a few mos. I initially called & was told it was sold out. The woman I spoke with told me to hold while she checked other stores & never came back so I hung up. I called back & she said she’d look out for it over the next few mos & call me if it was back in the store. Then she said «but in honesty I’ll probably forget so you should just call back anyway»…
So I decide to pop in the store a few wks later to see if I could find another sofa I liked. My boyfriend & I were in the store almost 20 mins before anyone even greeted us. I gave them a pass because it was a busy day. To the rescue & prior to us leaving we were approached by Casey (who I later learned was the Sales Mgr) who took note of the sofa I wanted (that was sold out) & went above & beyond to help me locate one (successfully).
Upon my going in to view my long-​awaited sofa, again I was left in the cold as far as assistance on the sales floor when I arrived. Although I was greeted by a woman behind the counter, I literally walked up to a salesman named Patrick on the floor as he stood with another customer & he totally ignored me. I even waited until there was an idle moment in his convo with the customer (she was sitting on the sofa checking it out & he was standing a few feet away) before I walked up, but I may as well have been invisible. This time the store was practially empty except for me and 2 or 3 other customers. So I proceeded to go sit on the sofa I came in for literally ‘looking’ like I needed help… pulling up cushions, etc. The same salesman (Patrick) went behind the counter next to where my sofa was & I made eye contact with him & smiled as I was examining the sofa. To my surprise, he very ‘snootily’ gave me a non-​chalant «hi» & proceeded about his business. Then to make matters worse he walked directly past me over to another customer a few feet away from me and asked how their vacation was. WTH?!? Perhaps I didn’t fit his criteria of the appearance of someone who matters as a customer? There were no other salespeople on the floor so I had to walk over to the front counter & ask the woman there all my questions. Then when Patrick walked back over to the counter during my purchase, he asked the woman ringing me up in a low voice «did she get the delivery» & I’m thinking… is the delivery an up-​sale or something? And when the woman replied I was picking it up, he said to me in a condenscending way «you’re going to put a 95 foot sofa in the back of a truck?» At that point I was 2 seconds from snapping on him as I was so over his whole attitude, but I kept cool & completed the purchase.
If it weren’t for Casey, I truly would have never given this store a dime of my $ based on the pretentious air of Patrick alone. And note to Patrick, be careful who you judge. you don’t know who works for or is related to someone in your corporate office in NC. Moreover, you don’t know what’s in a person’s bank account.

Purchase a sofa this month. The very same sofa I would lounge on whenever I stopped by. The staff is very helpful and patient. They also gave me measuring tips. Love Love Love Love my SOFA and the store.
PS the delivery men were great.

The furniture here is stylish/​chic, yet warm/​comfortable. They also have some very nice accent pieces. We recently did a complete renovation and the staff here helped us with colors, style, etc. They tapped into exactly what I was after, and made it happen. We had a minor issue with a piece upon delivery and this was quickly remedied — as a result, MGBW has gained a very loyal customer.

Water for pets: yes!
Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams is a pooch-​friendly temple to the modern aesthetic. Clean lines, luxury materials and exceptional service abound! If you have a decent budget and a preference for the uncluttered, you should definitely check them out. One lap around the store and you will see something you’ll fall in love with. (For us, it’s currently the Gustave chair. The perfect height!)

Came in here after a visit to Room and Board on a recent 14^th St furniture shopping trip.
We actually bought the gear we were looking for at Room and Board — but stil llike this store.
They had no problems with Things 1 & 2 & Soccerball girl taking their shoes off and diving all over the Dr Pit Sectional Display they have in the middle of the store.
Great quality stuff — some high price material in there too. Staff were very friendly.
Only reason we did not buy something here was that the combo of things we got at Room and Board was a better fit for where we wanted to put it.
I get the feeling that MG+BW is a place you need to go all –in on — i.e. for the room to work everything has to be in their aesthetic.

I have mixed feelings about Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Though I love the chairs I purchased, actually getting them turned out to be a trial, and a big part of the problem is the sheer amount of incorrect information that the corporation feeds to the sales associates.
«Oh sure we’ll have those chairs till the end of August.» Well not actually. By end-​of-​July the chairs are not only sold out locally but nationally.
«Oh sure those chairs will be in our catalog next season.» Well not actually. You can still get the fabric but not the metal base.
«Well you can get it on special order» True… but at a 30% markup, despite the fact that special orders and regular orders both take the same 8 weeks to arrive.
«Oh wait, that chair is back in the regular catalog.» Great! We’ll take two.
8 weeks later… «So…about those chairs, it’ll be an extra 3 weeks.»
5 weeks after that… «Sorry for the inconvenience. Please let us refund your shipping.» Except that… they didn’t.
Pretty stuff at MG+BW, but completely disorganized customer service.

I REALLY loved this place!!! This place provides the perfect mix of older classy & contemporary modern styles!!! There were many things in this place that I would love to put in my home. The beds were especially nice; they kinda reminded me of my grandma’s classy furniture, but with a modern twist that I would like to put into a 21^st century home! LOVE IT! :)

I’ve had some ups and downs with MG+BW, but am happy to report that after my original Unilocal review, their store manager has gone to great lengths to address my concerns and make restitution.
Let me affirm other reviewers’ opinions that MG+BW’s furniture is indeed gorgeous. My problems came with quality and customer service. My first problem was a rug that we purchased from the store, which wouldn’t stop shedding. I called and emailed for advice, and MG+BW staff responded promptly and helpfully; they gave me some suggestions and we agreed to see if the problem improved. It didn’t, and one of their employees kindly delivered a new rug to my home. I’m pleased to report that it didn’t have the same shedding problem, so we must have just gotten the lemon. It happens, and they made it right.
Our bigger problem came with the purchase of two mirrored tables (Donabella Cubes) to use as coffee tables that didn’t perform or hold up as expected. We interacted with a MG+BW «customer service» specialist, who was hostile and unprofessional. We had to fight very hard to get the store to let us return the merchandise, and they still would not offer us a full refund. In any case, after reading about my dissatisfaction on Unilocal,the manager really did engage in a serious conversation with me about our experience and eventually we reached an agreeable solution.
I want to end this review on a positive note: we looked high and low for a sofa that would suit our needs, and couldn’t find much beyond the huge, overstuffed sofas that are in fashion now. We are glad we walked into MG+BW; we found a sofa that really suits us, and it has held up well, as have the two chairs we purchased from the store.
