We DCers seem to have been waiting for the warm weather for a while… maybe we have forgotten our north-eastern and mid-western roots… or, simply, everything is just better when it is warm… so wander over to the Meridian Park on a Sunday afternoon and chill out listening to the drum cirlce… bring a frisbee, pack a picnic, pick up a washington post or city paper along the way, wear your dancing shoes… the drum circle is where about 20+ drumers(bongos, congas, snares, cow bells, etc) come to jam in a neighborhood setting… its very impromptu and usually one of the drumers takes the lead if you are lucky, you may find a guy leading a traditional african dance in which a bunch of people line up and follow along(thing the electric slide only a million times more symbolic, energetic and natural) the crowd is super diverse… native dcers, people in the nieghborhood, sunday soccer players, and a handful of people just drawn to the sound that resonates off the the buildings around 14th-16th streets and V street. if anyone would like to teach me how to drum… i’ll gladly accept!
