I had a hot dinner date so I’m predisposed to like this place. I think I’d have liked it anyway though. The Macon Burger with pork belly, Pimento and collard greens was both delicious and filling. And the sweet potato fries on that dish were almost better than the burger. But the best thing we ordered — and I think we agree on this — is the biscuits with honey butter and pepper jam. Those were so good that after I got home I felt a profound sense of regret about having not eaten the last one. I therefore strongly advise you to avoid the mistake I made and eat the last biscuit no matter how much you may be thinking you don’t need it. The atmosphere is nice enough. The service was great. When we ordered, we stumped our waiter by asking him what’s in the deviled eggs — which is kind of an ominous sign — but he ultimately did an outstanding job. This place is not inexpensive. That’s typical of Chevy chase though.

Bad night for Macon. Bad service and poorly prepared food. We arrived at 7:30PM on the dot for our 7:30 reservation and were seated fairly quickly. We didn’t get served drinks until 8:25pm. Didn’t seem like it was the server’s fault as she had far too many tables to handle. Took forever to get dinner as well. When my halibut came and scallops arrived they were both way overcooked. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Our drinks were never refilled nor were we asked if we wanted more water.(I might add that $ 29 for four very tiny scallops seems a bit much) Finally, when the check came I had to run someone down to take my credit card. It’s a shame because we’ve had good meals there before but this was a bad experience.

So, disappointed with the lack of respect and treatment while TRYING to enjoy brunch! At the very beginning I tried a little light, polite banter with one of the servers who was unbelievably unfriendly and snarky. Our server was friendly although she totally forgot our beverages and we had to ask twice. Food was decent, albeit a little overpriced. The premium cost was unwarranted. As if that weren’t enough, the host noticed we had signed the credit card slip and proceeded to ask HOWMUCHLONGERWE’D BE. RIDICULOUS. WON’T BEBACK.

Macon has a convenient location. And the food they serve is generally good. But the portions can be quite small, the service is friendly, but slow enough to make you believe you really are in Georgia, and every time I go, I leave thinking the whole experience was over priced. The other night I had Halibut and my son had a hamburger. The fish was good, but the portion was tiny, and served on just a plate of greens. $ 26. My son had a hamburger which was huge. His came with sweet potato fries. I stole some because I was still hungry. We also ordered Brussel Sprouts and green beans. I had two glasses of a decent wine at $ 12 each; my son a cocktail(he’s 23). With a tip, dinner was $ 120. Too much I think for what they offer.

My experience here was pretty mediocre. I went with a large group and we reserved the two large tables in the Magnolia Room, a private dining area separate from the main restaurant. The salad I had to start with was nothing special. It needed a little pepper to give it a kick. For my entrée I had the pan seared halibut. I was so much looking forward to this. I was sorely disappointed. This was the blandest fish dish I’ve ever had while dining out. Not only was the presentation lacking, but so was the portion size for $ 26.00. It had no seasoning or sauce.(See my picture below.) I was wishing I had McGinty’s $ 5.00 fish and chips happy hour meal which is so much tastier than this dish. To finish I had the pot de créme. Which, while small, looked great. The top layer was great, but the rest was like soup! It wasn’t just mine, it was everyone in my group that ordered one too. They should have been chilled; I think they must have been left sitting out for too long. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. The GM that greeted us acted if she could care less if we were there spending over $ 600.00. So much for southern hospitality.

Simply the best. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the food, which is some of the best I’ve ever had. The seared scallops were perfect. Seared, fresh, delicate, and all so tasty. The grits were real. Topped with fresh shrimp, it was amazing. The fresh biscuits with honey butter and peppered jam was amazing. So amazing, I purchased a few jars for my home. The Magnolia Room is elegant and nicely decorated that gave me flashbacks to my time in the south. Give ‘em a try; you will not be disappointed.

AJ is truly a genius, and an amazing human. She is engaging and a wealth of knowledge about food, wine and cocktails. Her ability to balance tastes and provide the customer with a true experience with every drink and plate is second to none. Hands down the best cocktails I have ever had.

Although not able to afford the real estate here, I’ve always found the Chevy Chase DC to be cute. The Avalon theater is as pleasant a place for any for an indy film, and the Cap City Diner is good for a little kitsch. And now, finally, a restaurant that reflects the neighborhood’s buying Power: Macon, named after both the city in Georgia and the city in Burgundy, is, by its own definition, a southern restaurant with French wine.(but they also have American craft beers). Located in the charming Chevy Chase Arcade, Macon is a long space, dark and evocative, with a 16-seat bar. Those craft beers I was telling you about? There are four on tap(including local favorite 3 Star Winter Madness) plus another 26 in the bottle and can(think DucClaw«Hop Continuum #3» Double IPA and Jailbreak«Infinite» Amber Ale). Cocktails include the intriguing Sunset in the Andes made with Bolivian Singani(similar to pisco), honey-turmeric syrup, lemon, and nutmeg. As you would expect in a southern restaurant, fried chicken is displayed prominently on the menu, but I had a winter special of lamb shank, a side of collard greens, and biscuits accompanied by a glass of Cahors. The biscuits were phenomenal; flaky and just the right density, the lamb shank fall of the bone tender and moist. Our table split an order of deviled eggs with fish roe which was also quite impressive. The larder portion of the name refers to sundries available for purchase such as pepper jelly, spiced pecans, and those delicious biscuits(bake at home). Dinner(here called supper) prices make this generally a special occasion kind of place($ 21 for a hamburger!?!); but if you’re feeling a little flush, they do have a three course pre-theater/pre-homework prix fixe from 5 to 6:30 for $ 35. The bar, however, makes for a great place to grab a beer or glass of wine before heading to a show at the Avalon.

I don’t usually review, though we do go out to eat a good bit. Macon has inspired me to write! My wife had the filet, I had the short ribs. Everything was amazing. Service was great, awesome beer selection, we will be back! It’s like a little European bistro nestled into Connecticut avenue. Go and try, it will not disappoint.

Been here a few times. Nice wine selection but fairly pricy for a single glass. Food is very tasty. Biscuits decent but delightful with butter and the sweet pepper jelly. Brussel Sprouts side was delicious– not ordinary but with some bacon, cloves of garlic and I believe a balsamic reduction. Had the Char– perfect! Overall will return. Nice décor-relax feel-knowledgeable and animated wait staff which is always nice.

We made a last minute reservation here and were really lucky to get in because this is DEFINITELY a hot spot. It reminded us of a Manhattan restaurant where the use of space is paramount and the décor really sets the tone. Great job on that part, Macon. We got there early and waited at the bar for our table. I was super excited to see fried pickles on the«snacks» menu as this is a southern staple. I was SUPER disappointed to find out they were all bread and butter pickles and not the typical sour pickles. My husband still ate them. Since I missed out on the pickles, I ordered the Deviled Eggs and really liked them. They included a red bell pepper marmalade, smoked oil, and diced bacon for $ 7. For dinner I had the classic FRIEDCHICKEN with ‘mac’-on cheese and collard greens for $ 24. The chicken was definitely on point and cooked to perfection: juicy inside with nice and crispy outside. The mac was also pretty solid so I was happy. I wasn’t a fan of the collard greens as they were cooked with bacon and it was pretty overpowering(no points were taken off since this is the traditional method). My husband went a nontraditional route and ordered Roasted Butternut Squash with farro, mushrooms, and breadcrumbs for $ 21. He was very happy with it. If those pickles weren’t such a disappointment then I’d be giving 5 stars to this one. We’ll definitely be back!

So happy I checked this place out. Such awesome service and the food is amazing. Truly delicious and meets the description of comfort food. My friend enjoyed all her food. The biscuits with pepper jelly are so good and the fried chicken is a must try. Collard greens and Mac and cheese are super yummy. I also ordered a side order of grits that were incredible. We shared the chocolate pie that is basically a cookie brownie. Their cocktails are nice too. I tried the Blue Sky. Definitely your neighborhood gem. Must try. They give you some salty caramels with your check too. Sweet!!! Can’t wait to go back!

I came for a late Sunday brunch with my husband and really liked the quaint interior and cozy feel. However, before even sitting down we were a bit off put by the host person who seemed extremely confused and took a while to seat us even though the restaurant was only half full. The menu is small but interesting. Not vegetarian friendly at all. The biscuits are very good. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the pepper jam. It added a nice savory element to the biscuits rather than a sweet spread. The service was a bit odd. Guess it’s more of a group service environment. One server took our order and we had several other servers deliver parts of our meal individually and another that took our dessert order. One of the servers was extremely rude which was a bit unpleasant but overall, from a food perspective it was pretty decent. The short rib hash and chocolate chess pie were our brunch favorites. Good place to stop in on if you’re in the neighborhood but don’t know if I’d make a point to specifically come back.

We came here for a celebratory lunch, as we’ve heard our friends rave about this place. While the Macon burger, kale, and the shrimp & grits were tasty, the food did not sit well with both my husband and me. We ended up running multiple times to the bathroom, once we arrived home. We don’t have weak stomachs(I will happily eat balut), so I don’t know what was wrong with the food, but it was very, very wrong. I’m definitely not going back. It doesn’t matter how tasty the food is, if I’m going to suffer for a few hours afterwards. It was also pretty expensive for such a horrible experience.

The atmosphere is low-key, sophisticated without any pretentiousness. The décor, very stylish designed with warm woods and organic colors. Fit perfectly with the exterior, which is one of Washington’s first indoor shopping venues. The food shares the attention to details. The biscuits and hush puppies came with home-made pepper jelly and a pimento butter. The brunch menu GreenEggs&Ham is delicious and the portion size large. For dessert I tried the Swirl Roll. Real whipped dream with delicate sesame-like crumble on top. Yum. Prices very reasonable for the location in comparison to other eateries. Highly recommended.

I went to check out the new restaurant in the neighborhood I had a romaine shrimp salad which was tasteful but thought the 2 shrimp was not of grade quality ! The waiter recommended a brim fish pan seared at mkt price but I was not impressed with the taste and price of $ 30 Overall average and expensive food

This place gets it’s name from Macon, GA and Macon, France. The restaurants blends southern and french themes into a lovely and enchanting gastronomical experience. Items to try: starter: the deviled eggs. I don’t care if you don’t even like deviled eggs, you will order these and you will thank me later. The best I’ve had, seriously. cocktail: the BCP — a southern bourbon punch that will knock your socks off. Refreshing with a kick. entrée: roasted pumpkin risotto — delectable blend of flavors with just the right amount of cheese.

Enjoyed the Southern/French(Macon, Georgia/Macon, France) fusion of Macon Bistro with my wife, kids and mother-in-law and we all really loved it. Great service and delicious food. The staff was friendly, fast and knowledgeable. For a starter, definitely order the biscuits. Too good to pass up and besides, your diet starts tomorrow, right? We also shared some cheese cookies and deviled eggs … they were all really tasty. I would recommend the Ribeye Tartare for an appetizer, I really loved it. I had the Catfish for an entrée… It was good, but I’d probably order something different next time. The design of the restaurant is cool & hip. The parking was supreme… free and right on the street in front of the restaurant.
