So so sad, but Lamont Video closed on March 24, 2014. Loved it there.

I like the weird air freshener smell in Lamont Video. And I like the friendly staff even if it seems like they rather indiscriminately love all movies. I LOVE the prices. Sometimes I wish they had more television series for rent, but they have a fairly decent selection. It’s fun just to browse in here and walk out with your little plastic baggy. Hang out for a while and watch whatever is playing on their big television. It’s a nice vibe. Sometimes you want a certain something NOW. I find using Netflix in combination with Lamont Video and some streaming stuff… to be the right mix for me. The place has reasonable hours. You can buy used videos, rent porn, find new releases and classic cinema. Not bad all in the neighborhood. Even the late fees aren’t bad. Sometimes I worry about them staying in business.

Very well-curated selection, including classics and foreign films you can’t find streaming on Netflix. Rapidly growing Blu-ray section as well, and substantial Spanish-language and adult film sections in the back.

I’m so glad a friend told me about Lamont Video, which is hard to miss if you don’t know to look for it. As others have noted, it’s clean, well-lit, well-priced, and well-organized…the selection is not huge but well-curated.

I finally went in here after living in the area for over a year and… YAY! I am a new True Blood addict and this place is helping me get my fix in for real. They have a pretty decent selection and they have porn… if that’s your thing. The prices are cool and its super convenient for the area. I am so happy I finally went in and I look forward to making a complete ass out of myself in about an hour when I go back for the rest of season two and the last episodes of season one… what the hell happened to Rene?! I got side tracked… check this place out…

I have lived in Mt. Pleasant for two years and never actually considered going inside this video store.(You know, Netflix. And memories of a terribly lackluster Blockbuster Video in the town where I grew up.) But tonight I really wanted to watch«Wet Hot American Summer.» Like, desperately wanted to watch.(Is that even a movie they stock at Blockbuster?) And Lamont Video had it, as if they had known I was coming. For this — and for the friendly store clerk and the cleanliness and the apparently eclectic selection(I also rented«Twilight») — I will even overlook the $ 5 fee they charged me to start a membership because I only had my bank card(it’s free with a credit card). So I will carry my Lamont Video membership card with pride, and I hope others will, too. I can’t imagine it’s easy for an indie video store to survive these days — and this one deserves to.

hhhhmmmmm… Perhaps things have changed since that review in 06? Great mom n Pop video store, as mentioned before. They have an above average amount of documentaries and bou-g intellectual flicks as well. I think they can order specific movies if you ask. Prices are decent, they don’t price gouge and you’re supporting a local spot — what’s not to love?

If you’re looking for an alternative to Netflix or Blockbuster, Lamont Video is a nice mom n’ pop video/DVD rental place right in Mt. Pleasant. The door to the store is a little hidden, but the store itself is pretty big. They have a wide selection of documentaries as well as your more mainstream movies. $ 3/DVD where it’s overnight for a new release and a week-long rental for the older ones.

Located in the basement of a Mt Pleasant Beauty Parlor, this surprisingly clean, well-lit video store features a large selection of new releases, Spanish-language titles, and teen pornography. There are always one or two businessmen, hands in pockets, crowded into the sectioned-off«adult» area, perusing the latest arrivals. This just in: «New Whore on the Block.» But that’s not my thing, and if you’re like me you’ll better appreciate the aisle dedicated entirely to Victor Lozoya, an aging, PG-13 sort of pornographer whose every video cover features his own ogling head, superimposed onto a beach scene, floating like a perverted Chesire cat over the back sides of some bikinied women. This place also has plenty of normal titles, such as «Little Man» and«BeerFest», and some tasteful Spanish titles such as «Un Bueno Novio». In short, there is something for everyone.
