I agree with Ji… WHEREISTHECART? I never see the cart here anymore. Anyone know what happened? Did it just move locations? Should we click on the«business is closed» checkbox?

On this day of renewed hope, I wanted Korean food for lunch. I finally made it to the food cart on Second Street and M Street, Southeast, at Navy Yard Metro(take the New Jersey exit). Both Mom and Son were smiling at me when I approached(Won Soon and Chul Woong Lee) and they were happy to answer all my questions. They serve pork, chicken and beef with rice, salad and kimchi. Mrs. Lee controls the three woks and the giant rice pot while young Chul Woong then adds the condiments and sauces. The sauces are western style barbecue sauces and I wish they’d use Kochuchang which is more authentically Korean, but maybe later. I liked the kimchi. It was not strong but they give both cabbage kimchi and a cucumber kimchi which is fresh and crisp. In the healthy vein, they also have fruit for sale. Apparently they opened a month ago, after getting help with the permit from the popcorn vendor who is next to that spot on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mrs. Lee had worked in a deli and she decided to open up shop. They have no name so the son decided on it while we discussed it, and once I’d told them I was writing a Unilocal review(those cards came in handy). Apparently the Lees had not heard of Unilocal nor that they were the THIRD Korean food cart in this area(they had heard of L Street Vending, and that is what motivated Mrs. Lee to go for her own). While I stood there and chatted with them, customers came and went, bringing the dollar they owed from yesterday(the meals cost $ 7), for a sample(I didn’t like the chicken), to general lunch time cheer. Later around the corner, I was eating my food when a guy asked me if it was good(the bulgogi was nice and sweet, the rice was sweet, the kimchi good and the salad was salady), only to realize later(when I went back to ask more questions) that«the guy» was the flower salesman, and he was making a deal with them to buy some food(they gave him a discount) before they closed shop(ah, to be of influence! ;-)) I give them four stars because it was a solid Korean lunch(they are open from 11 – 1:30) and I’ll be back to see what else they put on their menu(and to try and influence them some more…). Regarding their name, they had not quite decided yet but were thinking of Lee’s Hot Korean Lunch.

The worst thing about working in SEDC is probably the lack of numerous versatile good lunch spots that the downtown folks get to enjoy. My usual weekly lunches consist mostly of home-cooked meals(cheap and good), but if I get lazy and don’t cook, the only options I’m stuck with are subway(eww), Five Guys(fantastic but too heavy for lunch) or the stinky cafeteria in my building. But those days are OVER!!! The Korean Food Cart is awesome!!! If I made more money, I’d buy lunch from the cute lady and her son everyday! The Korean Food Cart carries bulgogi, spicy chicken and chicken teriyaki. I have only gotten bulgogi because I love it and I would only get real Korean food from a Korean food cart. The bulgogi is delicious! The cute lady is always very generous with the beef, piling it on top of a big heap of steamy soft white rice. The lunch also comes with a salad with vinegarette dressing, and if you ask, the lady’s son will give you some kimchi on the side. That is a lot of food for $ 7, but what’s more, it is healthy and delicious. Cash only. They are there every week day during lunch time.
