I did not enjoy my experience at Hair Lounge Salon. I bought a gilt city deal for a haircut, balayage, and blowdry. I went in to get my long dark hair cut shorter into a long bob and lightened to a honey brown. My stylist was Johannie, and I felt like she didn’t give a second though to my appointment with her. She didn’t ask me how LONG I wanted my hair, she just cut it. She didn’t ask me what COLOR I wanted, she simply said she would go mix my color, and when she came back with it, I had to pull out of her what she planned on doing. She even double booked the appointment and disappeared for long periods of time without telling me what was happening. My haircut was terrible, and it ended up having to be fixed by the owner(who reluctantly agreed to do so, after I called back twice and he saw what a mess it was). Johannie herself refused to redo my hair, even though it was impossible to tell that I even got it colored. I didn’t get what I wanted, but I added an extra star to the review because the owner, Daniel, did a good job with the cut. I will not be returning, and I would recommend to anyone interested in this salon to see someone other than Johannie.

No joke: I travel from New York to this salon in Washington, DC to have Aicha cut my hair. If that is not a ringing endorsement, I really don’t know what else is. She works pure magic when she cuts hair. Put your trust in her and you will not be disappointed.

I’ve received some great color from this place, but the receptionist is so rude, I’m not sure I feel like giving them more of my money. The first time I made an appointment, she couldn’t understand a word I said, despite the fact that I repeated myself about a dozen times. It finally seemed like she got what I was saying, but when I arrived for my appointment, she had booked me for something completely different than what I wanted, and they had to scramble to reassign resources. Subsequent conversations to set up future appointments have also been somewhat draining. The cuts here are okay – not awful, but nothing special. It’s fine for color if you want to deal with the lady on the phone, but who’d want to do that? They really need to hire better receptionists.

Response to Serken per my 8÷1÷12 review. As I mentioned, I already came back to you guys for a second appointment in hopes of fixing what happened. I figured that it was an honest mistake, but I was less than thrilled after I told my stylist about the damage and subsequently received no actual apologies or discounts on all of the treatments that were provided. I appreciate your offer to «take care of the problem,» but I have since been advised that, given the extent of the damage, the only real solution is to let the hair grow out. I’m certainly annoyed at what happened and will be taking my business elsewhere, but I’m not trying to launch a vendetta against your salon. I just don’t want other women to have to go through what I am dealing with. I’m entitled to express my opinion, and if your salon is as good as you say it is, then one bad review shouldn’t be an issue. Also, just FYI, the Kerastase you use and sell in your salon is a L’Oreal-brand product. And I never«talked to L’Oreal» about this — my L’Oreal contact is just a friend whose experience in the hair care product distribution business has familiarized her with the reputations of nearly every salon in the DC area.

I went to Hair Lounge today to fix a horrible dye job that I got at a cheapie salon. They weren’t able to give me Jennifer Aniston’s honey blonde locks, but that’s okay… they were completely upfront about my options, and because the dye was so dark the damage to completely undo what was done would have been severe. Instead they were able to tone down the color, make it look a lot more natural… something I can live with… and we have a plan for getting it 100% over the next few months. I had Aicha, she was friendly and comforting and very knowledgable about color. I felt very comfortable putting myself in her hands. I only left off one star because the salon itself could use a little spa-ification. The lighting is not good, the mirrors are kind of small, and the color is a little bland. People were great. I did spend a lot, but at the end of the day it was about what I expected.

Not Impressed After moving to Glover Park, I’ve been searching for a hair stylist. The Hair Lounge has a great stylist, but unfortunately it also comes with rude receptionists and high prices. After purchasing a Groupon to try the Hair Lounge, I arrived to have the receptionist scoff at me for bringing a coupon and then even though it explicitly states on the Groupon that you can bring in a print out or use the mobile app, the receptionist refused to take the Groupon via the mobile app. Instead of being considerate and offering to print the Groupon for me, she made me walk to the local FedEx Kinkos and pay to use the computer and print out the coupon. I have a pretty high tolerance for rude people, but this woman took the cake. The prices are a little higher than average salons for average service, so I won’t be going back and the hunt for a great, affordable stylist continues!

Let’s be clear: this review is not about cuts, color, or ambiance. They may do all these things really really well. They very well may also have the most comfortable bucket seats and impossibly clean mirrors. Their hair products may smell like delicious spices. Their stylists may be conversational and lovely. But when it comes to setting a hair style, this place bombed. For $ 85 with tip, my hair should toooootally stay in place by the time I take a photo three hours later. I can’t understand letting me walk out with curls that had gone limp by the time I forked over my credit card. My only solace is that I used a Groupon for this place, and after I refunded it, this only set me back $ 35. Even for that price, I’m not happy that I got the hair style I have when I get out of the shower.

I ended up at The Hair Lounge on a fluke, I desperately needed highlights and was tired of the«cheap» looking head of hair I had gotten from Bang Salon. Admittedly I am a highlight addict, I used to highlight every 6 weeks like clock work when I lived in Michigan(of course in Michigan the prices weren’t through the roof). I saw Murat for color and cut for almost 3 years — I was never completely pleased with the service but couldn’t figure out what the problem was — finally after having a bad dye job to brown hair and highlights to «fix» it could I see how wiry my formerly soft hair had become. All the money I threw away for«color» was really«BLEACH» and my hair was yellow. It took $ 400 and the ted gibson salon to fix it(miraculously my hair appointments have dwindled to 4 times a year and have actually ended up saving me money and my hair looks amazing!). Murat is great for a blow-out(he does flawless pin straight hair to anyone), and his up-do’s are well worth the $ 100. But as for color and cut go elsewhere, the cuts were always uneven, when I had my hair fixed the length was an inch different from one side to the other. I’m not at all cheap when it comes to my hair, but this place is NOT worth the money.

Great salon in Georgetown. It’s pricey, but well worth it! I drive from PA to see Aicha who is extremely talented with color and cutting– she can do funky/fresh or keep it traditional, and her cuts grow out very well. I hadn’t had my hair cut in 4 months, and people were stopping me on the street wanting to know where I got my hair done! Also my blonde highlights look very natural– she takes such care it’s almost like she cuts and colors each hair individually. Very customer service oriented– they always have beverages and bagels on hand to offer, and will do whatever necessary to fit you into the schedule, even if last minute. Highly suggest checking it out, and def rec Aicha(pronounced like«Asia») as a stylist.

Just moved here a few months ago. The owner knows my hairdresser from where I moved for years. They were so sweet about consulting about my color of hair likes and dislikes etc. Could NOT have been more welcoming, professional and talented. This is a great place with good products nice energy and alot of talent!!! I really recommend it

I’ve been going to see Mistik for years, and was thrilled when he came to Hair Lounge, which is in my neighborhood. He has a painstaking approach to color, cut, and style, and I always leave feeling fantastic. The space itself is very nice; everyone has been friendly and accommodating. Even the shampoo is something to look forward to. And it /isn’t/ cheap, but the results are absolutely worth the price. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I don’t drive to my appointments very often, but I will echo the complaint that it’s hard to park at the off-street garage in the building. If you leave a little extra time and don’t mind walking a bit you can find parking in the neighborhoods to the west or at some of the other lots just a little further up the avenue(there’s one behind Glover Park Hardware, as well.)

Why do stylists who don’t like curly hair insist on blowing it straight? Why can’t they just cut it well so it looks good without a blow out? I came here and was treated extremely well by all the staff. The cut was just ok — no better than the cut I got at Aveda… but I learned that both the stylist here and the one at Aveda had been trained at the same school in Turkey. What are the chances? Neither of them could give me a reasonably updated cut, and both insisted on blowing it out. I hate my hair blown out, but I let them do it with hopes that they’ll see what I see when they’re done. Meh.

I have dark blonde hair and went to Hair Lounge after reading the recommendation in Washingtonian about how it’s the place to go for blonde highlights. Well let’s just say I’m no longer taking service recommendations from Washingtonian anymore. When I called to make my appointment I asked for someone good with blonde highlights. They put me with Serkan. What a disappointment. My highlights are choppy, obvious, and look cheap. I said to sacrifice lightness for naturalness and instead he went too light and gave me skunk highlights that are completely obvious. I’m willing to drop some dough for good highlights but not for ones that look cheap. Overall, it was a big disappointment. The only reason I’ll give two stars and not one is because at least the salon was clean and Serkan was punctual.

Friendly staff, relaxing ambiance, good cut. Not much more you can ask for in a hair salon.
