The right notecards and selections of pens were available in the store. It is a small place with a very friendly and welcoming proprietor.

What an awesome and charming store to have… Allllll this time I kept going to CVS by the eastern metro, looking for cards, which means, looking at empty rack after rack … When two blocks up was this gem! Fantastic AFFORDABLE creative cards, gifts, balloons, wrapping necessities, etx… So happy to have found them!!!

This is a perfectly fine shop with a nice staff and a very small inventory. There are some cute/humorous cards, but I didn’t see anything unique. If you need a basic birthday card or a set of thank you notes, Groovy will suffice. However, I would not make a special trip or go out of your way to check it out.

Great selection of cards and paper items if you’re in need of something unique. I liked the small items towards the front of the store as well, really cool little gifts to give when you’re in a bind.

I had high hopes for this place especially since it was listed as an alternative option on Pulp’s facebook page(another card store in DC). Sadly, Pulp closed down this January which is what sent me to this place(moment of silence for my fallen card store– RIP Pulp) After heading over there was I sorely disappointed. I mean yea this store doesn’t carry Hallmark like cards but they also didn’t carry any cards I would send. No cards from Offensive+Delightful, Erin Smith Art, Naughty Betty, etc that were always staples at the other store. I spent a good deal of time in there and read at least 20 cards, which tells you right there – there was nothing there for me. Are the cards humorous, sure but not that perfect gem that makes you think«I HAVE to get this one.» To be fair, the place is cute. Its in a row home, the owner seems nice and they had supplies to wrap a gift if you purchased one(hence the stars). It’s convenient to get to from Eastern Market metro but the card selection really doesn’t warrant a trip. Sorry Groovy– we clearly aren’t on the same tune.

I walked in looking for gifts for a couple of friends to add to gift«packages» one thank you and one engagement. Generally, I look for gifts in the $ 20-$ 50 range, and while I did find some gifts(portable wine rack and candle) I wish there were more gift options, and more in the $ 20 and under category. It’s a small shop but it surprisingly holds a lot — gift bags, picture frames, kids stuff. Good card selection.

I’ll give these guys 5 stars for service. Gifts and cards can be a vast array of items to choose from when you merchandize a store. In this economy, you can’t be too trendy, because if the trend passes you’re stuck. So the old tried and true creatve gifts for kids are perfect to carry. The high tech stuff is at the big toy stores. They have all the little things you need for kids parties and in this neighborhood there are a LOT of little kids. Last minute card or small gift needed to take to a dinner party? It’s at Groovy. We go over and get our balloons to put on the storefront every day which they fill with helium and tie with ribbons, for less than 5 bucks for 4 balloons. They even come over and help tie them up. They are full of ideas and info on everything Barracks Row as they have been here a long time.

This is the kind of store that your always comfortable popping in and chatting. They know everyone in the neighborhood and help you in anyway they can! Not to mention my kid who has to visit them whenever he’s in town! They bring in very cute and unusual items, great little gifts for birthdays! Visit them and you’ll probably want to visit them again!

I must have completely missed something, because I don’t see the appeal of this shop at all. I stopped in while waiting to meet a friend for dinner and was totally underwhelmed. For a place that advertises itself as a card shop, the card selection totally sucks. Almost all of the available selection is blank, which is nice I guess if you’re feeling creative, but even then the options are entirely too generic and boring. As for the gifts and toys part, I’m not an expert on what kids want, but most of the stuff looked really outdated. Maybe they’re appealing to the retro crowd, but I would be pissed if I was a kid getting this stuff as a gift. The other miscellaneous stuff was basically overpriced, bland picture frames, and overpriced vaguely fragrant candles. I wish I could write more, but there’s just not much to talk about with this place, since that’s basically all there is to it.

Very nice little shop with a wide selection of very unique gifts. The owner is very nice and helpful. I would definitely go there for all my gift shopping. I am glad that they are close to my residence.

Great place to get things no one knew they needed until they saw them and gifts for the hard to shop for and have it alls. I like to visit just to keep on my toes! They have so many items it’s impossible to see everything in one stop! Travel lite, the space is limited. I purchased a Frida Khalo cube with each side a portrait of her own. And unusal cards for everyone I could think of! All special to that person, of course.

This place is fun to walk around and see what’s on offer — I just wish I had more random little tchotkes/cards/gifts to buy :)

We have picked up several gifts for nieces/nephews here at Groovy DC. We love walking in and we never know what kind of great gift we will find. They have a great selection of children’s gifts as well as cards. Found the prettiest Christmas Cards from there this past year. It’s almost time for another trip there for 2 little boys birthday presents!

A great card store just a few blocks away. Now I know where to go to make my gal’s day. What lady doesn’t love a good card? Like others have said, good service, friendly owners, and the real winner for me is that they carry Bald Guy Cards So next time you’re packing away pints and pizza at matchbox, stop in here to get a card to apologize for how drunk you’re gonna be when you get home.

I went to Groovy DC today just to browse and I definitely have to come back! There are tons of cute gift ideas and really great cards! Kind of pricey, but you rarely see these kinds of unique items. I’m very excited about finding this store!

I really like Groovy DC. It is a great place to find unique cards for special occasions, as well as small gifts. The owners are always willing to help you find something if you can’t find it yourself. Groovy DC is a store I try to go to every time I am at Barracks Row.

I’m totally a fan. For some reason, I’ve walked by this place a zillion times and never stopped in. I’m glad I took that small detour today(on my way to Subway). The store is full of tons of cute things. I LOVE their card collection — they are hilarious. Plus, there’s so much wrapping paper and such, it’s outstanding! And the gifts are so nice; pricey — but totally worth it. I didn’t buy anything — since I only had the $ 4 I needed for my lunch — but next time I go, I could probably buy most of my Christmas gifts from here. So cute:) Also, like the Unilocalers before me mentioned, the owners were very friendly, even though I didn’t buy anything. I can’t wait to go back and blow an entire paycheck on their stuff.

Groovy DC is a really cute card and gift shop in an ever-changing neighborhood. The owners/managers are extremely friendly and nice… they understand that it’s normal to be nice to their customers. Surprisingly, a lot of little shops don’t realize that. This place always has a wonderful selection of stationary. I’ve bought tons of birthday and thank you cards here. They also have several shelves of cute gifts and novelty items. I definitely recommend checking this place out! And then go eat at the Old Siam… :-)

While I was browsing at Homebody, I noticed this place not too far away. I am always looking for a place with cute and unique cards. Hallmark bores me! One thing that caught my attention was the cheery storefront. Once inside, this store is certainly a welcoming place to look around at the cards and wrapping paper. as well as some one of a kind gifts. There are arts and crafty type stuff for sale by Rehoboth artists like glassware, pottery and paintings. Also there is some stuff ranging from cards to magnets made by local artists. Groovy participates in Barracks Row’s Second Saturday which takes place on the 2nd Saturday of every month. This event gives you a chance to shop 50+ from artists and vendors as well as grab some food and listen to live tunes.
