The location, menu and ambiance really had so much potential! But my food appeared prepackaged, remade and reheated. What a shame… Even the doughnuts weren’t fresh. A real letdown. If they revamped the kitchen with fresh made to order food this place would be five star…

Came back again and the management basically threatened me about my previous 4-star review. I thought I was being generous with that review and anyways, I stick by it because this place has promise that it doesn’t quite meet. Their donuts are just too heavy and a bit greasy in addition to being expensive. I do like the bar and drinks though.

This place used to be great. I’m sitting waiting for my food and I’ve been here an hour. The new approach is to sit down and get table service, but they only have one server for the entire place. I’ve been told my food is «coming soon» but it’s been 45 minutes since I placed my order. Everyone is moving like molasses. It took 10 minutes to buy and box 4 doughnuts. What is going on with this place? I’m not going to come back. Edit: My food just arrived and it’s lukewarm. Fuck you gbd.

As a general rule, I cannot stand«over the top» reviews. It doesn’t matter if they are positive or negative. A overly positive review makes me feel like the reviewer knows someone there or has some affiliation. An over the top negative review makes me feel the reviewer has some personal vendetta against the establishment. That being said, I’m just a guy who has been to GBD twice. And I’m about to break my own rule. The menu at GBD is perfect. Since I cannot give them zero stars, I’m giving it the one star for two reasons. The excellent choices they have on the menu, and the beer. Since the beer requires no cooking, they weren’t able to mess it up at all. The menu also requires no cooking. Actually, if you only order drinks, read the menu and use the bathroom, since they require no cooking, you may be pleasantly surprised. It appears those at GBD can pour beer into a glass, and make a decent side salad. I suggest you come here for the beer and the small side salad. I came here as a party of two. We ordered different items. Fried chicken, a waffle doughnut sandwich, mac & cheese,(a side salad), and some beer. For dessert, we ordered two doughnuts. Figuratively EVERYTHING was reheated and must have been cooked a day or days earlier. Not the salad of course, that was ok. The waffle doughnut for my sandwich was reheated. Have you ever had reheated waffles? They’re terrible. The bacon on it was reheated. The honey mustard dressing was in abundance. The other meal was reheated fried chicken. Have you ever ordered KFC, and then not been able to eat it all, so you put it in the fridge, but didn’t put it in a container. You just place it in the fridge, right on the wire rack. Then you wait 3 days. Afterwards you pull it out, and you put it in the microwave for a few minutes. Then you invite someone over to your house, have them pay you $ 12, and you serve it to them. That is what this chicken tasted like, and that is how I feel about it. Guess what? The doughnuts? They were reheated. That makes sense, I mean it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have made to order doughnuts. But these doughnuts were terrible. To give you an idea of my sweet tooth, as a child I once ate a jar of chocolate cake icing. I loved every bite. I don’t do that still because I want to take my shirt off at the beach, but my sweet tooth is still there. I couldn’t finish my chocolate doughnut, I only made it two bites, the second was just to confirm that I hadn’t accidentally thrown up during the first. I actually stopped on the way home to get some gelato because I was so frustrated by how terrible this doughnut was… This doughnut ranks somewhere between Metro delays and Donald Trump on my list of things I find offensive. So… TL;DR. Drink here, read the menu, maybe use the restroom, then leave.

Went here for happy hour with a friend and had some cheap beer & wine. The gose on the happy hour list was kind of a mediocre gose, but the tempranillo red wine was good. The punch was way too sweet and didn’t taste like it had any alcohol in it — basically just tasted like cranberry juice and simple syrup. The fries were a little too soggy without enough crunchy, but still quite good. The sauces were the real winners, the best part. The buttermilk ranch was DELICIOUS and I was also really happy that they had mumbo sauce on the menu. The service was really not good. The only time we got our waitress’ attention was when we waved her down and even then, everything took forever.

Quality of the chicken dishes were pretty delicious, seating very tight and uncomfortable, and not worth the 45 min wait time. Should have ordered out and eaten elsewhere. Avoid the waffle grilled cheese. Waitress was pleasant but the organization of the host staff needed more attentive support from a few busboys. Walked in around 2pm on a Saturday(after the brunch crowd rush) and put our name on the wait-list. Told to expect 15 – 45 min wait. Dude wasn’t lying — we waited about 40 full minutes with only 1 – 2 people in front of us with smaller parties(3 – 4 people each). As about 12 people walk out and free up some tables 30 minutes into our wait, a couple with a small child walk in and get seated immediately(what can you do). The busing service for the tables took about 15 minutes because the poor host was the only staff available to clean tables filled with 10 dirty glasses and plates. Sat down and was told that all beers on the menu(minus a few) were being re-kegged and therefore were lukewarm. Bummer. Ordered the peanut butter porter anyway in a 4oz glass(about $ 5 – 6) after being offered a taster by the waitress. Free taster was a good portion for all three people at the table to try in a few sips — we appreciated the waitress giving us the option. Seating was very unusual — the wooden benches felt like church pews and the table itself provided little space for people to maneuver into the seats. It jutted out just inches from my stomach(and I’m a thin guy) and felt kinda claustrophobic with the table’s main source of light — a light bulb from the ceiling — hanging in my face. I ordered the waffle grilled cheese. The order came smoldering burnt(waffle is made flattened on a pannini grill). I had it sent back and redone. When it returned, it was slightly less burnt, but the charred bits flavored the entire sandwich and melted cheese. Also, the dish returned with two scoops less of mac and cheese than from the first plate… no doubt the transaction fee for re-ordering the dish and inconveniencing the overworked cook staff recovering from the Post-brunch crowd :-/Annoyed but starving, I ate what parts I could stomach. My party ordered three mini chicken biscuits and fried chicken sandwich. Both had pretty good portion sizes of meat. The mini biscuits were more like yeast roll consistency and deflated with darker smooth burnt edges on the top and sides. They were slathered in a nice pool of honey and tasted delicious despite the disintegrating biscuit pieces falling around your fingers, being held together by only the rock-hard charcoal piece of the biscuit. The chicken sandwich was cooked pink in the middle but didn’t kill anyone and tasted juicy with a good crunch around the edge. Would be tempted to order The Luther and Chicken and Waffle next time(ordered to-go to avoid the obnoxious seating experience).

GBD is right nearby my school so I stopped by with a classmate and thought it was okay. I got the chicken sandwich buffalo style with ranch dressing on the side with the mac and cheese because fries wasn’t an available option for a side dish. The sandwich was pretty good with the buffalo style was pretty good. The mac and cheese, was okay, honestly, very bland despite it being the red pepper mac and cheese it was mushy and not very good. The service there was pretty good. Our server was friendly but we were in the back where there weren’t too many people so we kind of had to wait a while for more water and our check and another beer. I might come by later in a group to get the dinner for 4 deal because their chicken looked delicious.

I don’t usually eat meat, but I will never pass up a chance to go eat some of this perfect fried chicken(so tender and juicy inside, with such perfectly crisp and delicious batter on the outside) and fine doughnuts. Luckily, I do not live nearby, as these are not healthy treats, but boy howdy! They are tasty, tasty treats.

Enjoyed a cocktail with my cousin here. Fried chicken drumstick was fried golden brown and delicious. For $ 2.50 is not that bad. I would get something for half the price in Oakland chinatown, but I’m a long way from home. Need to get a donut next time. also happy hour.

GBD is worth coming for happy hour, but I would not recommend it for brunch. SAVEYOURTIMEANDMONEY. At happy hour, the drink deals are great and the vibe is fun. $ 3 specials for their punch, beer, and wine selection. For brunch, service was slow and the unlimited mimosas took forever to arrive. Totally understand if it was busy and there were a lot of tables to wait on, but the server was just not attentive. I ordered The Luther, which was a fried chicken donut sandwich with fries on the side, and wasn’t impressed. The sandwich had no flavor and the fries were soggy. Our table ordered the poutine entrée to share and that was the only saving grace for a DC brunch experience.

Ok I really wanted to give this place a chance so I came back a second time. Unfortunately, my second visit was just unpleasant and decided to go sober this time. I ordered the same thing I ordered last time and when I got it, the Chicken Sandwich was COLD and had no flavor. The fries were also cold and soggy. I asked the bartender(who actually gave ok service, and I say ok because we did wait a while before getting waters and we had to ask multiple times for silverware), if I could get fresh hot fries and I want to say they did the same thing they did last time– which was re-fry the fries :-( Won’t be coming back!

I ordered the biscuit trio and a vanilla doughnut. Vanilla doughnut– very good! I’d certainly order it again. The frosting was good, thicker than the icing at Krispy Kreme but not slobbed on. If I ordered a coffee with it it would’ve been perfect. The biscuit. The biscuit was very good, a little doughy(in a good way) and honey was drizzled on it. No complaints here. The chicken– to my chagrin the chicken was cold, like it wasn’t made to order. Fried chicken not made to order? Usually with fried chicken, whether tenders or full pieces, I expect it hot and crispy. That’s not what I got. Others at the table that ordered breasts and drumsticks, remarked the same. The flavor was good, but the temperature threw me off. Nonetheless after some cocktails at another place, I ate it. Verdict: This place does bread well, doughnuts, biscuits, etc. Chicken– if you’re drunk it’ll work. If you’re looking for classic fried chicken that’s juicy, crispy can be eaten alone or with a dab of hot sauce, this isn’t what you’re looking for.

By far the worst experience at an eating establishment! If I could give it a 0, I would. I was looking forward to experiencing the food culture during my DC visit from San Francisco and let me just say this was not reflective of the other tasty places we had. This place was a suggestion from a friend of a friend, so we gave it a shot. We walked in and were told that they were not open for another 10 minutes. We asked if we could hang out at the bar until then, and even though they said we couldn’t, we decided to go and come back. We went to a nearby cupcake shop, came back and were told that they were not open yet. «But we were told to come back at 4:30?» Waitress: «Oh yeah, actually it is 4:30!» My friend immediately said she wasn’t sure if we should eat there and I felt the same, but we went along with it… Bad mistake. We were the only ones inside and other party outside so you would think the service would be good, but no. Our waitress was trying, but the rest of the staff seemed to be sitting around. We ordered our food. I got the mac and cheese, salad, and a biscuit. After some wait they brought us food. The mac and cheese came in a container as well as the salad. Gee… Couldn’t have even put it in a plate? I’m not taking out. But okay fine, next… As I’m eating my mac and cheese, I noticed something wirey in my mouth. Yes folks, I FOUND A STAPLE in my mac and cheese! I promptly call the waitress and show her and she takes it to the kitchen. Someone comes out apologizes and says they can comp my meal and asks if I want something else. By that time I was already over it and declined. And it gets worse… Another friend of mine gets the rabbit food which is basically a platter of cut of vegetables. Easy to do right? I had a bell pepper slice and it seemed like it wasn’t washed because it still felt waxy. Then my friend says, the STICKERISSTILLONIT! So apparently the produce was not washed and the sticker was cut up. Wow. Really? I immediately call the waitress and tell her. She takes it away and goes to tell the kitchen. She comes back and asks us if we want to pay or take a percentage off of the bill. I was already frustrated so I said whatever, it is what it is. She comes back brings the bill, then I noticed that she had CHARGEDMEFORTHEBISCUIT that I never received and for the other 2 mac and cheeses that were probably from the same bag of mac and cheese as the one that had my staple(It was pretty apparent that this was not made fresh). At that point I was completely over it and told my friends that we should not be paying, but they did pay for only a few things that were eaten. We walked out of there as fast as we could and went to Shake Shack. It’s bad when you have a bad product, but it’s worse when you have bad service on top of it. So if you want to feel unwelcome, ignored, and have bad food to go with it, yes I recommend this place.

I mean, this place serves heart attacks on small plates, so what’s not to love. The portions were generous and everything was flavorful. On one of those nights where you are willing to feel no shame, try this. Order everything you think sounds interesting and then die full and happy – or maybe don’t die, and just write a good Unilocal review. Sandwiches with donuts as bread are one thing, but every menu item we tried was delicious. Order the tendies, which is just GBD for tenders. They were good. Slightly burnt(on purpose), which I dig. Speak up if you’d like them not burnt. I’m sure they will accommodate. The biscuits were extraordinary. Might have been the best thing we tasted. They have these chicken slider type things on the app list that I might label must order. Basically anything with bread is a winner here, which is ironic because that’s the item the donuts replace in the Luther. Basically, this food is really tasty. If you’re ordering this stuff, you’ve set your affairs in order and what not. So sit back and enjoy. The only knock was speed of service. Oddly, even though it wasn’t really all that crowded, service was a little slow and there were few check-ins from the staff. Other than that, this place was a winner. Definitely still worth checking out. Dope music throughout as well – courtesy of a great DJ. 10⁄10 on the music front.

I went to Happy Hour at GBD because she said that it was her favorite HH in DC. I’m still new to the city and don’t have time to go into the city very often(darn Georgetown med courses) so I was looking forward to it. Btw, happy hour is Tue-Fri from 4:30−7pm I got a pumpkin spice beer(everywhere seems to have pumpkin spice everything every Sept and Oct) and a Hole In One, which is one chicken drumstick and a donut. I personally prefer chicken and waffles but this was pretty good too, just better eaten separately than together IMO. The chicken is very good, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.

This place was the perfect Sunday morning brunch place for a post bachelor party crew! We all started with the coffee served in wonderfully mismatched mugs(naturally I chose the Christmas one ;) we all followed it up with a donut. I went with the espresso chocolate glazed. It was the perfect pairing to the coffee and the brioche really made it an excellent donut. As a group we had the Luther(chicken on a donut!!!), mini chicken biscuits, bacon egg and cheese biscuit, poutine, and chicken and waffles! Everything was delicious! My favorites were the poutine and mini chicken biscuits. Our server was wonderful and did a great job of tending to a big, slightly hung-over group!

The brunch here was ok although they ran out of chicken and waffles which is why I came here. I would not recommend the Croissandwich and mac n cheese, flavorless and boring. Basically a croissant that was pressed with a hot iron with egg in the middle that looked like it was cooked in a microwave. Same goes for the Maple and Bacon donut, I was expecting it to be warm when served and not so dry, it was tough to put down. The other entrée we had which was delicious(GBD…something) is the only reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of 2. Was a mixture of fried chicken(moist inside, crispy outside, and lots of flavor in the skin), potatoes, over easy egg, and sausage gravy. The staff was friendly $ 15 bottomless mimosas

This donut place was so disappointing. They have loads of fun and wacky flavors that makes the place so unique. I love it when shops take a classic thing such as donuts and put a funky twist on it. However, I was disappointed because they served their donuts cold. And that’s ok if the donut is moist and delicious. However, the donuts here are dry and you need milk to help you chew it into pieces. It’s really not a good donut. However, I have had so many scrumptious donuts while in different states. So I may have an impaired judgement and a higher expectation when it comes to donuts. If you look past their poor quality donuts(almost blahhhhh donuts) the décor is lovely. The walls are exposed to the worn out bricks. The light fixture is breathtaking with a rustic and urban spin. The candle lights kiss the tables with shimmers of light. The vintage coke ice box lays on the shops floor to ignite nostalgic memories.

Their food is a solid three star. There is nothing special about their donuts. The donuts look delicious, but they are dry and not at all fresh. They taste like they were laying out for hours. All their flavors are mediocre. Nothing stands out as amazing. I usually love maple bacon donuts, but this one that I ate was the worst of them all.

Mediocre all around. Nice space. Bland chicken. Not enough fried. Not at all golden. Or delicious. Definitely brown though. Overpriced sauces. Beer that was not yummy.
