Excellent food and reasonably priced for DC. My son said they were the best fish tacos he’s ever had! Thanks all for the great reviews leading us to this gem.

Not what you would expect after walking into what is the basement of the State Plaza Hotel… I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food served here. They clearly value their customer and go out of their way to provide a lunch/dining experience for the customer. First off, no crowds to report here. No lines, nothing. Walk in be seated and prepare to order. The staff are friendly and courteous and very accommodating. I had lunch here on my only visit and had clients with me and was somewhat rushed with some of my party arriving later than others and it seemed like they had no problems accommodating a rushed order to serve all entrees at the same time. I had the fish taco’s. Being from Souther California, I was a little concerned initially, but they did a great job and the flavor was exactly what I am accustomed to. Enjoy this hidden place for lunch. No experience with dinner here…

I was here for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, I had an omelette with ham, mushrooms, and tomatoes. It was a tad on the bland side and fairly unmemorable. It’s good enough if you happen to be in the hotel, but not worth any special trip. For dinner, I started with the butter lettuce salad. This was excellent. It came with fresh lettuce leaves, beets and toasted walnuts. The vinegarette gave it just the right amount of acid to balance our the sweetness of the walnuts. I could’ve eaten 2 portions. Next came the pork chop. It was properly cooked, but a bit oversalted. It came with a side of pumpkin gnocci which I didn’t like at all. The gnocci was al dente, but the taste really didn’t agree with me, not sure why. The roasted artichokes was the best part of the dish. They were grilled just enough to impart some sweetness without tasting bitter. Service was good both times. The staff were attentive and prompt.

A bit off the beaten path but a charming and quiet little spot, part of the State Plaza Hotel. If you happen to be staying there don’t overlook this gem. Service for dinner on a weekend was excellent, with no reservation, unlike many places that have a long wait. Bibb lettuce salad was a delight, large enough to spit. We both ordered the pork chops with pumpkin gnocchi, with roasted carrots and Brussels sprouts on the side, because it sounded delicious — and it was! Well seasoned, perfectly cooked! No room for dessert but will go back again. Not an extensive menu but enough variety for many tastes.

not so much a garden as a spot between buildings. I ordered the lobster roll — very good with a generous portion of salad. when I asked for a piece of the bread that had been brought to the table to be wrapped up(I didn’t eat the accompanying bread, since I had a sandwich, and I had a free breakfast at the hotel, but breakfast started after my appointment the next morning), I was told they don’t wrap up bread. Which, for this former server, means they reuse the bread on tables.

My mom and I stopped here after touring some monuments and we were impressed with the great service, air conditioning and quality food! It was a bit difficult to find since we were staying at the hotel, but we really loved it!

It wasn’t very crowded when I went in before 9 p.m. on a Monday night. I had my server help me choose two of the three options: hummus, a caesar salad, and a bowl of their soup of the day. She steered me toward the soup of the day — vegetarian cauliflower, and hummus. She wanted to ensure I’d feel full and that’s why she suggested the hummus, which I appreciated, but in hind sight, I think I might have preferred the salad. The soup was fantastic, so I’m glad she recommended it — it inspired me to want to try and make some at home. As for the hummus, well, it left a little something to be desired — I’m afraid both my mom and the store have better chick pea mush options. This saddens me because hummus is so simple… I peered outside after my meal to see that they have outdoor seating — I’ll keep that in mind for the future. I’d been wondering how anyone would get to the café unless they were a guest. It’s a hotel restaurant, so my expectations are raised on price and lowered for quality. I only really looked at the top of the menu. My bill came to $ 16.50. I was hungry, this place was convenient.

I’m not sure if they are ready to be in business yet. I suppose to make reservation for my friend four days in advance. So first when I called I was let right to a voice mail system to leave the reservation time and size. However since I didn’t get any response or confirmation I stop by and make the reservation, the waitress didn’t know ANYTHING and refuse to ask her college, she just kept saying«I’m sorry we don’t take that type of payment» I’m glad one of another waitress stop and said«yes we do» which saved my day…

Nice little quiet place, wandered in for dinner. Salad was fresh and unique, ravioli was great! Club sandwich was just right. Service was good, comfortable setting. Should be a hot spot for this area.

Excellent food quality and presentation. Superior service that you typically find only find at much more expensive establishments.

This is my second time at The Garden Café, a nice bistro located at the State Plaza Hotel. Both times we were hotel guests. My first evaluation was related to their lunch service and deserves a 5 star. My husband and I went for a Thursday lunch during our 5 days stay and we were very happy with the experience. I had the Seafood pasta(quite delicious) and my husband had the sirloin medallion that he enjoyed very much as well. Good service, calm atmosphere, good price($ 16 each). At that time, guests received a complimentary house drink per stay when dinning there. This week, we came back to the hotel, and based on the good experience, we decided to add the daily breakfast at The Garden Café to our 7-days reservation, even though we have a kitchen in the hotel room. This entitle you to a 12 dollars State Breakfast, which is good but boring if you are expected to repeat it everyday. Luckily, the hotel give you the vouchers and the waiters were sometimes willing to exchange it for other options at the same or low price, but still is a bit too much of the same. Food continue to be very well presented and done, but we noticed a big change in the quality of service during the week, dealing with distract waiters and annoyed guests. I know, breakfast is a busier time, but the only one place offering this service in a hotel should made you prepared for that, right? However, the experience totally changed today, Saturday morning, when we were lucky enough to have Rui as our waiter, a very competent asian young woman who always addresses you with a smile and stays very attentive to her job. She was not there during weekdays, but I guess her professional service will not change anyway. The overall balance for the review done yesterday, based on the 5 days visits, was a 3 star experience. But having again a great service made me edit it to add a new star.

This restaurant is located in the State Plaza Hotel in GWs campus. It was formally known as Fst Bistro but is now under new management. I wasn’t expecting much from a hotel restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised! The place let my mom and me in a little early for dinner, and they were still trying to turn on the tv and set up the bar, which of course was a little disturbance but expected since they were kind enough to let us in before they even opened! The food was so so good. My mom ordered a salad with some specific instructions and they made sure to get her order right. I ordered the grilled salmon and it was amazing: perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside! The service was attentive. Overall a great experience.
