I wanted to submit an updated review. The company contacted me thanking me for my review and explained how they’ve changed pricing on many things due to customer feedback. However, I’ve moved so can’t revisit the store so wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt!

Here’s the thing about luxury. If you sell luxury products and charge luxury prices, you need to come through with luxury customer service. At least not rude service. G&G needs some help on this. A novice to high end whiskey, a couple weeks ago I bought a bottle I’d never heard of on the STRONG, pound-the-table, «you’ve-got-to-try-this» recommendation of a G&G staffer. I plunked down for it, but alas, learned at home it is just undrinkably bad. Like, I cannot get a friend to drink this whiskey, bad. I cannot stomach it with Coke, bad. I didn’t know whiskey could be this bad, bad. So I took it back to G&G, opened but virtually untouched, for a refund, an exchange, a discount, anything… Instead, I was told sternly«no returns» by the manager who promptly walked away. Even as the guy who’d made the recommendation was there, remembered me, and admitted it was a bad selection. Now, I understand a no refunds policy, but when the store is going out of its way to recommend customers buy a certain new bottle, the store should find a way to stand behind that. At least offer an exchange or a good discount? G&G has the makings of a well-designed and well-stocked shop, but things like this knock it down a few pegs in my book. G&G — it’s time to take your game to the next level! Treat your customers better and they’ll pay back the favor with loyalty that more than pays for itself.

Gallagher and Graham is a welcome addition to the U Street area where you can go get beer, wine, and liquor needs addressed. Their range of beers is impressive from unique local selections to old standbys, at reasonable prices. The variety of wines is diverse as well, with flags denoting the origin of each bottle, as well as notes for staff favorites. Their staff is knowledgeable and each time I’ve been there have been tastings for customers. Their forte is in the liquor department though; it’s definitely the place to go if you want to impress your hosts and bring a fine bottle of booze to a local party or to augment your own liquor shelf.
