Enjoyed watching the speed skating competition against the various clubs in the Washington DC metro area. Thought that the building is super clean and well maintained even though it is scheduled to be replaced by a brand new building in about 2 years or so.

One of the harder rinks to find in the DC area. Your GPS will take you to a townhome. It’s best to follow the directions on their website to the rink. This rink is definitely straight out of the sixties/seventies and it stayed there. I was there for a two hour public skate and had yet to see a zamboni. At the end of the session the rink looked like a crevice filled glacier. Although indoor, it does close from April-June. It has one large ice surface and bleachers. The temperatures are colder than other rinks. There is also a small concession stand. There is only big reason why I love this ice arena, other than a lower admission fee, is that this rink attracts the most well behaved kids ever. While skating a fourth grader decided to tell me, «hey, I see a hockey player in your future». I don’t know you, kid, but I love your fortune telling. Of course you’re occassionally dodging a few bat out hell death defying small skaters on crack but in general they are usually not in your way. Along the same lines this is one of the more kid friendly ice rinks. They actually have a novel Kids on Ice community program designed to make skating more accessible to Washington area children. It is affordable and gives has an ice skate loaner program. Instead of dealing with craptastic loaner skates, kids can borrow actual figure skates/hockey skates. Is there a difference between rental skates and those? Yes, a world of difference. The public skate sessions are mostly mid day(lunch time). It’s worth a visit.

I ventured over here because my food coop Healthy Solutions delivers here. I was quite early so I went inside the ice rink. It’s pretty old and could use some updating. Also the public use hours are pretty slim. What I was impressed with were the classes. There was a group of young women there in a class. They looked very professional. This wasn’t just some basic class. They were twirling and jumping like professionals. Also some of the local high schools and colleges play their games here. So when I’m ready to get my Nancy Kerrigan on I will sign up here.
