While visiting the Phillips Collection, my tummy started grumbling. I wasn’t in the mood for a big lunch, since I had dinner plans that night, so I picked up a quick lunch at the café inside the museum. The Phillips isn’t a big museum, so it’s not surprising that their food offerings are pretty limited. They’ve got a pastry case with various muffins and other pastries. Underneath, there’s a cold case with prepackaged sandwiches and bottled drinks. Behind the counter, they had big pots of soup. I wasn’t a fan of the day’s soup offering – lentil, I think? – so I opted for one of the prepackaged sandwiches. The sandwich I picked up was ham, Brie, spinach and honey mustard on a baguette. The baguette was a little chewy and had a lot of flour on it. The ham was pretty tasty, and the Brie had great flavor and the right little bit of a tart kick. It was a simple sandwich, but just what I was in the mood for. It was a little pricey – about $ 10 for my sandwich – but that seems about the going rate for lunch in the Dupont Circle area. If you’re looking for a quick lunch while visiting the Phillips, then their Foodarts Café will hit the spot. If you’re looking for something a little fancier, then best to look outside the museum.
