I frequently visit Dog Tag Bakery as they are close to my work. The sandwiches and pastries are excellent! I also enjoy their tea when I need a little pick-me-up. The bakery has a very comfortable atmosphere and it’s a great place to meet with a friend or colleague. It’s a noble goal that Dog Tag has in supporting our troops. Im proud to be a patron of such a fine establishment.

The coffee scene has hit DC, but somehow it hasn’t hit Georgetown. Yes, there’s a few coffee shops/bakeries in G-town, but most don’t have wifi(I’m looking at you, Baked and Wired). That’s why my wife and I were excited to stumble upon Dog Tag Bakery on a recent shopping trip to the area. Not only do they make a great coffeecake and challah shallot bread, but they also have free, strong wifi and plenty of seating. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem finding a place to sit. If you’re in Georgetown and need a coffee shop/bakery to work at, come here!

I only ever get one thing here: iced hot chocolate. You might be thinking, «huh? isn’t that just chocolate milk?» NO. You are wrong. Try it the next time you go!

Taking down stars after my am experience. My breakfast sandwich wasn’t heated properly(cold egg), and they took it back to reheat it with no apologies. The idea of this is cool, but a part of running a business is also customer service.

Tried this place for lunch yesterday, and loved it. The environment is beautiful and open, service is friendly, prices are good(for Georgetown, which is crazy expensive), and the food is fantastic. I had a turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo, and it was great. The cranberry flavor really contrasted well with the turkey, and the bread was great too. Soft, but not mushy. I also love that the shop helps to provide disabled veterans with skills they can use to find employment virtually anywhere.

What a cute bakery! I was so pleasantly surprised at the open floor plan and great lighting. I love the concept behind the bakery — providing training and experience for war vets, it really adds to the charm of the place. My sister and I got a couple coupes(resembles a trifle), banana cream pie and pumpkin pie, that came in these cute little glass jars. The banana cream pie was my favorite, and it even came with a yummy Nilla wafer on top. I would love to come back and try some of their other desserts. Seems like the perfect place for all sorts of occasions from friendly meet-ups to business luncheons.

I love this place’s mission. It’s hard to criticize a place that offers a program for disable veterans to get and education and real world experience. I’ve needed to walk right past this place for work purposes, so it’s been convenient. It’s a little pricey, but I understand(well, I hope) the extra money is going towards a good cause. That being said, if I’m going to pay $ 5 for a fruit cup, the fruit should be good. Mine consisted of mostly unripe melon. The baked goods look good, but I try to stay healthy, so fruit or yogurt seem to be the only options here. The first time I went I had a cappuccino that was made more like a latte, so last time I stuck to espresso. There’s lots of people hanging out doing work, and the place has a pretty good vibe. I like the idea, but the execution could be improved a bit.

I’ve been here since they opened up last year I believe. I absolutely loved ordering their bacon egg and cheese in the morning on days I felt the craving. Unfortunately they did away with the bagels and you now have two options: crossaint or biscuit. Being a bakery place I did not expect getting a burned crossaint when I returned to my office. This is COMPLETELYUNACCEPTABLE. I will post a pic of how dark brown the crossaint was for reference. How does one think it’s acceptable to give to a customer??! I didn’t go back since I was busy at work so I lost a few bucks and had a terrible lunch. This place won’t last if they keep this up.

This is a café for humans, not dogs. Dog tags meaning army tags. They offer a really amazing program for vets to get real world experience and most of the servers are part of it. Such a genius idea. It’s tucked away on a side street in georgetown, but that just makes it better. It opens right at 8am, and there will often be people waiting to get in. Don’t be deterred though, they move people through the the line quickly. The inside is all red, white, and blue to go alongside the veteran theme. There’s a dog tag chandelier too, which is really unique. They have a variety of different breakfast items, and you can get them on any kind of bread. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese on a croissant. Delicious. I’m not a coffee drinker, but they were quick to suggest a chocolate milk(aka mocha and milk) which was really quite tasty. I’ll be back for sure!

Cute spot and good food but quite pricey. I had an iced coffee and a sandwich, which set me back about $ 10. The breakfast sandwich was super tasty and satisfying(holla at the«everything challah»!) though a tad small for the price. Love the cause, and I’m OK with paying more knowing it’s going to a worthy venture but probably would make this place a «sometimes» snack.

This place is neatly tucked away on a side road off Wisconsin ave. I wish I could’ve visited sooner but they have very early closing hours that make visiting near impossible if you work. The inside is patriotic but tasteful. Everything is red white and blue but doesn’t look like Yankee Doodle punched you in the face. I had an iced black tea and ham scone with chives. They heated the scone up for me and it was a pleasant snack early morning. If it were more feasible to return I would try to.

Although it only shows that I have one check-in on Unilocal,I am actually a regular here visiting at least once a week. I come here because it is truly the Gem of Georgetown! Great food! I recommend the Chicken Salad Sandwich with soup combo, which is my favorite. It’s a great nonprofit business that offers both on-the-job and behind the scenes business training for both active duty and reserve service members and veterans. You get great food and support our troops at the same time!

My new favorite coffee place in Georgetown. Tucked behind a side street if Wisconsin Avenue is Dog Tag. I just tried the chicken salad sandwich and it was great and coffee is good as well.

This place is fantastic. I came here with my family the other weekend for dessert, and we were not disappointed. The ambiance of this place is very relaxed, and the tables and chairs are kept spotless. The workers are super helpful and incredibly nice, and I love that this place hires and trains veterans who are coming back from war. I had the marbled cheesecake, and wow did it melt in my mouth! Best cheesecake I’ve had in a long time. They even brought us some eclairs and bread on the house since it was near closing time! These free items were also perfect in every way. I am a bit biased since I personally know the Jesuit priest whose brainchild is the Dog Tag Bakery, but that won’t stop me from singing this bakery’s praises. Make an effort to come here the next time you are near M St!

A veteran based café/bakery had me here. Plus my friend said they had great food and coffee. After our bike ride into DC from Vienna I need a bite to eat and caffeine to keep me going. I ordered the croissant sandwich with eggs and bacon, a medium size coffee and 2 macaroons. The sandwich was good but very greasy. The coffee was strong and delicious. The chocolate macaroon was not that great but the original flavor was decent. The place is on the smaller size but perfect for the usually crowded it probably endures. It is a little tucked away and easily missed.

This Georgetown bakery has delicious lunch items and sweets, an upscale ambiance and a veteran-friendly mission. Went here for lunch and had the turkey and brie sandwich, which was delicious and cost less than a sandwich from nearby Best Sandwich Place. It came with free chips too, which is uncommon in GTown. I especially appreciated the citrus-and-cucumber-flavored water that is available for free when you eat in. On another day, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a piece of carrot cake. Both were excellent, especially the carrot cake, which was moist and had a creamy icing with a hint of citrus in it that made it pop and kept it from tasting too rich. On this second visit the water was flavored with watermelon. Delightful! Dog Tag has café-style seating for around 20 people. The walls are wood-paneled and painted white. The whole place looks like the inside of an upscale mansion in the Hamptons. It’s a nice place to spend time. This might just be the next Baked and Wired. Be sure to check it out!

Dog Tag Bakery has been on my list ever since they opened up, and I was ecstatic to finally check them out! This cute bakery provides a work-study program that offers education and experience for disabled veterans, so that the experience & the training they receive can help them obtain jobs post duty. The menu offers breakfast items(egg & cheese croissant sandwiches, bagels, biscuits, fruit cup, oatmeal with fruit, etc.), pastries(scones, brioche, muffins, and cinnamon buns), lunch options(salads, soups, and sandwiches), mini breads, and various desserts(whoopie pies, cheesecakes, apple pies, etc.). Everything in the bakery case looked enticing, but I ended up trying their Curried Chicken Salad on Challah Knot(oven-roasted chicken tossed with celery, parsley, curry powder, Greek yogurt, and mayo, all nestled in a sesame seed challah bun; this also came with a side of sea salt kettle chips; I thought the chicken itself was quite bland/dry, but definitely ‘healthy’ tasting; there were huge chunks of chicken, and the sesame challah was actually quite good!); 2 ‘TeaClairs’(traditional eclairs filled with tea-infused custard; they also change their fillings frequently — I tried the Crème Caramel Rooibos and the Matcha TeaClair — these were yummy, as they were not overly sweet; there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of custard filling inside, and I appreciated that they were mini-sized!); a Cranberry Mini Quick Bread(or a mini ‘loaf’ — this was a mini vanilla cake with a generous top layer of cranberry and raspberry compote — one of my favorites!!! The vanilla cake was very moist, and I loved the topping of the berry compote!); and, a Chocolate Chip Mint(two chocolate chip cookies with a light mint cream sandwiched in between; the cookies were nice and crunchy, and the mint cream was yummy and delicious!). I loved the fact that the sweets were not overly decadent and sugary, and you can really taste the love that is put in each baked batch. I even saw some baked treats for pups, so I am definitely going to check those out the next time I come! There are plenty of seats inside, and I saw people doing some work, catching up with friends, and/or getting their meals to-go. The staff were oh-so-sweet and oh-so-lovely :D Definitely check this cute bakery out and support a wonderful mission & cause!!! +Cranberry Mini Quick Bread(mini ‘loaf’) +Chocolate Chip Mint sandwich +TeaClairs +freshly-baked pup treats: D +friendly and sweet staff: D +provides training and experience for disabled veterans +limited metered-parking on Grace St

Visited Dog Tag Bakery for a fundraising event supporting our veterans. I wish I had taken pictures. It is a great place, with cool decorations(hint — there are some dog tags involved…), a friendly staff, a wonderful purpose, great coffee, and yummy treats. I recommend everyone visit at least once. They not only represent our veterans but they also help by offering small business and bakery experience for those interested in entering the workforce in those areas. Yummy treats and a noble purpose, you bet I am a FAN!

I started to use the Bookmark feature of Unilocal and had Dog Tag Bakery on it for a couple of weeks because I wanted to support cool, local places. From what I understand, the bakery was founded on the belief that no veteran who wants to work should be unemployed. When I finally decided to take a day off last Friday, I also made the decision to come to Georgetown to try this bakery and get some retail therapy. The bakery is kind of tucked away on Grace St. and about 1 – 2 blocks away from M St., but that’s what I love about it. Upon walking up to the entrance, automatic doors slide open, and you immediately see a pristine storefront inside with its crisp white walls and cabinetry and well-lit display cases. Off to the one side of the store is a small stage with a dog tag chandelier and some umbrellas for sale. On the other side are two booths that hold about four adults each and a nook to put the finishing touches on your drinks and grab some napkins. Near the registers are t-shirts, cookbooks, and dog treats for sale as well as biscotti and cookies. There is a drink menu written in chalk with a variety of coffees and teas and in three sizes. I opted for the small green chai latte($ 3.75). The cashier asked if I wanted it in a to go cup which I thought was nice since I also asked for a ham, cheddar and chive scone($ 3.85) to stay. I really do think that was nice. I would hate to not be able to finish the drink and have to waste two cups. I also decided to pick up a pre-packaged brownie($ 2.75). So, it took a few minutes to get everything fixed up. The scone needed some warming and the drink needed to be prepared. Meanwhile, I was debating whether I wanted to eat the brownie at 9 am. When I got my scone less than a minute later, I chose a seat at one of the 10 or so two seat tables and faced the registers. A steady stream of customers came through and I noticed people who worked upstairs coming down and helping themselves to coffee and chatting with staff. My drink was finished a few minutes later. The scone was so so and I though the latte was ok; it was too watery for me. However, the stand out is the brownie. Wow! I didn’t think it would be that great but I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did. It’s the perfect brownie with four edges of a slightly crunchy exterior and a perfectly moist, decadent interior. It was easily the best thing I enjoyed that morning. As for service, the cashier came by to grab people’s plates and silverware when they were done. When I was done, I walked my stuff up since I didn’t want to be rude and leave it on the table and didn’t see a proper place for returning used silverware and plates at the nook. He told me I didn’t need to do that and that I could leave it at my table and they’d come by and get it, but to me it’s like leaving a mess at someone’s nice house. Not cool. I was amazed to see a bunch of people on their laptops so I am assuming there is free wifi. One guy kept going up to buy more food and drinks for himself. Another tucked himself into a corner. I’d estimate about ten two seater tables, two booths that seat four people, and two three seater tables. Service is good, and I think the prices are pretty reasonable. Overall, they don’t have a huge selection of stuff but I enjoyed the service and found the cleanliness, lighting, and ambiance very welcoming. Moreover, it wasn’t crowded and chaotic like another neighbor… Anyway, please check this out and support our veterans!
