I came to Gregg about a year ago having never picked up a guitar, let alone any musical instrument in my entire life. I was very apprehensive at first since I was a total beginner and had no idea what to expect, but that feeling was soon alleviated by Gregg’s welcoming and easy going nature. Gregg has been able to make custom lesson plans based upon the pace at which I am progressing and what areas I desire to improve. I leave every lesson invigorated and motivated to try out the new tips and techniques reviewed in each session. I have continued to take lessons from Gregg for almost a year now and I can say that I have been extremely happy with the educational environment that he provides and would not hesitate to recommend him to any level of guitar player.

Like paying $ 60 for less than 45 minutes of time? This is your place. You’ll waste 10 minutes ‘warming up’ at the start of your lesson and then be asked to pack up with 5 minutes to go, as the next client is coming in through the revolving door. Or maybe your entire lesson will involve your guitar strings being changed. Luckily, I found a real artist with extremely reasonable rates and is generous with his time elsewhere. Not saying this guy isn’t nice or can’t play or isn’t a decent teacher. He’s fine. But if you want to feel like you matter and would rather not spend an obscene amount of money, go elsewhere.

I’ve just started taking lessons with Gregg after an unsuccessful attempt with another local shop. After only a few lessons, I’ve found Gregg to be very professional and dedicated — not only to music but to teaching. He is patient, and quite versatile. After only two lessons I’m playing chords but also a little bit of blues and a little bit of flamenco. Very enjoyable and his studio is a nice, comfortable set-up which provides one-on-one instruction. Highly recommend!

Gregg is great! I’ve been playing for a couple of years now and wanted to gain improvisation knowledge and get a rudimentary understanding of music theory. Thanks to Gregg, I’ve learned alot about these two areas in a short period of time. This man knows his stuff.

Gregg is a very patient, caring, kind, astute teacher. I have taken guitar from other teachers in the past and it never sticks. That has changed since I have taken guitar lessons from this man. He begins the lessons by asking you what you want to learn, where you’re coming from and how you’d like to proceed, how much time you have to practice and tailors his lessons and recommendations to what you can do, without ever making you feel guilty for being out of practice and if you’re busy like me, that’s much appreciated. Another very cool thing is that he has a bunch of guitars you can use while you’re taking your lesson so you don’t have to haul your guitar on the metro or bus. Gregg is very knowledgeable about different types of music and also continues his own training which makes him an even better teacher. On top of all this, he has a positive attitude, a love and passion for music and a great heart; recently he started a non-profit Guitars not Guns chapter in DC– check it out!

I’ve been taking lessons with Gregg for a little over 6 months, after finding him through craigslist. The lessons go as follows: Part 1) review last week’s assignment, whether it be a song or a scale; Part 2) learn a new scale; Part 3) learn part of a song that incorporates the newly-learned scale. For me, this is perfect, as I get a good blend of musical theory(scales) + a practical application of the theory(song). Gregg has an extremely solid foundation in music theory, and even more importantly, he can explain it to a novice in an easy-to-understand way. He’s very flexible in terms of the songs/scales curriculum, which I like. I’ve often brought sheet music for a particular song to a lesson, and Gregg has been able to incorporate the song into that week’s lesson on the spot. Additionally, Gregg is generous enough to host a weekly jam session at his home on Sunday evenings, where all his students can get together and play. The Sunday jam session, by far, has led to the most improvement in my playing. I would highly encourage anyone who has thought about taking guitar lessons to give Gregg a try.

I have been taking lessons from Gregg for a few months now. I look forward to my lessons each week. I have a disorder that makes it sometimes painful to play, but Gregg is extraordinarily patient. and encouraging. I give him my strongest recommendation! :-)

I’ve been taking lessons from Gregg for almost 2 years after finding him through Craigslist. I initially went to him to help me work out some solos in some songs my band is playing that I was having trouble with. Gregg took the time to learn the songs in between our lessons and came prepared with ideas and lessons based on those songs. I really appreciated that he was taking an obvious interest in what I wanted to learn. I also got MUCH more than just those solos. Gregg was really helpful in helping me understand the theory behind the songs(key, modes, etc.) and how to improvise and build on them. He also gave me good, practical exercises to help me build my technical skill. Gregg is really good at boiling down topics into easily understandable chunks and helping you apply them to your actual playing. His patience and lighthearted nature make him a perfect instructor for all skill levels, and I know he works well with kids as well.

I’ve been taking lessons with Gregg every couple weeks for a number of months now. He knows how to play all different styles of music, and he’s got plenty of extra guitars, which is handy since sometimes I don’t get the chance to stop at home to pick up my guitar before going to my lesson.
