Buyer Beware. Sadly, my experience echoes that of others here. Ultimately, I was only able to achieve resolution through intervention by the office of the Attorney General of the District of Columbia. For others victimized by Mr. Mitchell, you are not alone. David Mitchell did an outstanding job designing our home. We moved into a new townhouse, and David quickly understood what we wanted and keyed into our sensibilities and design aesthetic. Through meetings and conversations David came up with wonderful suggestions that I had never thought of. He brought color and new ideas to us, that made our home not just beautifully designed and(importantly) within our budget, but managed to make it ‘our home’ instead of a showcase of his work. He and his assistant designer Elizabeth were easy to reach and fun to work with. And David’s eye for accessories, using some of the things we collected through our travels, as well as finding just the right artwork, as well as other items we needed to fill in, is perfect. He simply has a great eye, and made our home a beautiful, warm, and most of all comfortable place to come home to.

David has designed several rooms of our home. He does gorgeous work(as his portfolio shows) and is truly a talented designer. The problem is lack of follow through and poor communication. His assistant Elizabeth fields all calls and emails, and if you are lucky enough to get a response from her it often takes several days to weeks. Inexplicably, deposits would be given for furniture, yet it would often take several months before orders were actually placed. They have extremely poor customer service skills and usually make you feel as if they’re doing you a favor to work with you. Giving them the benefit of the doubt… they may be too busy. Additionally, he left several rooms unfinished without accessories. When we asked about the finishing touches he told us we «should have fun picking out our own accessories». This was unacceptable considering we were paying him $ 300/hour to design the room, not just purchase furniture.

I should have flushed the money down the toilet. I wish I had listened to the other one star review. We had a horrible experience with David Mitchell. He took our money, gave us phony orders and receipts and failed to deliver about $ 30k worth of rugs and furniture. We were left with a half done project that was WAY over budget. I would sue this guy If I thought he was worth it.
