3⁄5 but to be fair, Dance Loft on 14 isn’t finished with renovations(plastic and paper still cover the floors). Pop-up classes are being held by Barre3. Regular classes are being held by District Heights Yoga(I’d personally recommend both studios in their respective disciplines). DC has the«murder capital» reputation despite not even making the Top 30 in 2015. Why does this matter? The exterior façade fits the«murder capital» stereotype with graffiti and steel doors. In my naiveté I equated Dance Loft on 14 in my mind to something more like Pacers, West Elm or other 14th Street chic remodel to retail location. I could see a future for the façade with an amazing mural reflecting it’s purpose, so again, if you are like myself with stereotypes based on appearances, reserve judgement. Once inside the building, it is difficult to know exactly«where» to go.(As you walk in, go up two flights of stairs and the door is on your left.) I loved the glass walled studio on entry. I found myself getting lost staring into the glass as I watched a dance troupe perform before Barre3 class. Benches line the hallway, but it was a fifty-fifty split as to leaving our shoes and bags unattended or bringing them into the studio we were using. All of the flooring is still covered in paper or plastic, but I could see hope underneath of natural wood floors.(I’d recommend wearing yoga toes or Nike Studio wraps as the floors do have dust from the nearby sheetrock work.) It isn’t perfect but you can see the«signs» of good things to come!
