I just went, place is definitely still open, and definitely a positive experience. No lines, fast service, and a good quality product. Also, at $ 19, one of the cheapest places I’ve found in DC.

Although the linoleum floor tile and authentic vintage chairs lent a sense of male-ness about the place, the actual haircut was sub-par. In the interest of full disclosure, I did not have Mr. Yi. However, for my $ 18+tip, I wouldn’t say it was any better than a uni-sex salon with a hairdresser named Wanda. I’ll be trying out one of the other recommended barbers on the list next time — hopefully the head massage, warm lather and straight-razor will be waiting for me there.

Unfortunately, the space was sold and Corfu has now closed. Here’s a review of how it used to be: If you walked down Eye Street between 19th and 20th and didn’t know what you were looking for, you would probably miss it. Just past Kaz’s and under the travel agency next to Aroma, is a narrow stair case that leads you down below street level to a linoleum-floored, old fashioned barber shop right out of your childhood. It’s like walking back in time – barber chairs the size of Buicks, a TV in the corner and Playboys and Penthouses in the the magazine rack. I’ve been going to Corfu for about 10 years now, and absolutely love it. Why? Is it the fact that for 19 bucks you can get a layered razor cut? No. It’s the fact that for 19 bucks you get the haircut AND a neck and head massage. That is if you go to Mr. Yi, a Korean American barber. An affable, hard-working small businessman, Mr. Yi will treat you right at this little oasis of the past in the heart of the K Street world of lobbyists. Mr. Yi’s number is: 202−331−0566. Tell him Mr. Kurt sent you.
