Clear Internet Store – Clearwire

This has been a God send, all the negative review are from Comcast lackeys. Sadly, I just heard that Clear is no longer providing internet for the home. I thank the higher forces everyday that I discovered Clear when I did and escaped Comcast clutches.

Awful, awful, awful! Not a fan of clear at all. I was stoked when I saw the service being offered because I would really like internet only for a low price. If you get it with Verizon in my area you have to get a land line, if you get it with Comcast, it’s really expensive. This leaves bundling as the best option. OK, so back to the review I got the clear modem in the mail and set it up. Very poor signal. Spoke with tech support for about an hour. I think I was speaking with some guy with broken english in india who definitely wasn’t the sharpest tool in the tool box. He couldn’t help me and advised me to get an external antenna for the modem. He said it would work great then. So I go to Microcenter and buy an excellent external, it didn’t work with the modem but I think it was the modems fault as well as the service. Trust me, Clear offers a low quality piece of crap product and service. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

i just got mine today — and it’s excellent! I went to the Best Buy in Columbia Heights and Tonya, the Clear rep there, was great. She explained everything, was very honest about what it could and couldn’t do, and after I purchased it she walked me through setting it up. Now the walk home had me terrified — would it drop only three blocks away? NOPE! I’m here writing about it and streaming a movie on Netflix via my Wii all at the same time while it’s pouring like dogs and cats. I’ll update this post if service changes but I’m very happy so far!
(also I’d like to note the last post was written almost 6 mos ago so maybe they’ve fixed whatever the problem was — it’s all returnable so might as well give them a try if you need internet and Comcast is screwing you over like me)

About as good as you might expect internet delivered over cell phone signals would be. Which is to say: Horrible. Have two computers in your house? Don’t try using them at once! Want to download a podcast? You’ll have to wait half an hour! Want to watch a Youtube video? Forget about it!!! And, oddly, even though you’re basically plugging your wifi network up to a 3G network, your monthly bill will likely be higher than your cell phone’s data plan. Huh.
I don’t really understand why this service exists except because the contractor who built your building didn’t want to spring for the cost of installing intranet cables. If you have the choice (and I didn’t), don’t go with this internet service.

I started using clear back in Jan 2011 because it was cheap and served my internet needs. Yes, there were intermittent outages that lasted a day or two, but nothing that bothered me too much and kept me from living. After the derecho hit, I went about 5 days without service. I realized it wasn’t that big of deal since I still had power and cable. Service was restored but then a couple weeks later I completely lost all connectivity.
In the past week, I’ve spent 7 hours on the phone with Clear and it’s been a terrible waste of time.
First, you should know that the ‘support staff’ are reading off a script and will apologize profusely for bad service. Also, they do not have comprehension skills. Keep reading below for examples.
Second, they will continuously ask for your phone number, address and devise ID. Apparently each person you talk is incapable of realizing you’ve been on the phone for ages and they need to verify that your phone number hasn’t miraculously changed in the last 15 mins.
Third, no one knows anything. They will read off the script and blame you for connectivity issues. I was actually asked if I could keep the device outside the window. OUTSIDE! Their solution to my connectivity issues was that my device was faulty. Then they had the balls to tell me I had to pay for shipping. I got that resolved when I talked to the cancellation person. They sent me replacement device and guess what? Yup, the replacement can’t connect to their network either.
Fourth, the person you’re on the phone with cannot do anything. They will need to transfer you or put you on hold for 30 mins. And don’t even think about asking to speak to a supervisor. I was on the phone til midnight and was told the Supervisor would call me back in 2 hours, which would have been 2 am. Ridiculous.
Fifth, and my favorite, once you finally get to someone who can cancel your account, they’ll bend over backwards to keep your business. I was offered free access for a month. That would be great if I could actually connect to the internet!
In conclusion, Clear is the worst, the WORST!

Agree with all previous reviews. Atrocious is a good term to describe this service. We live in Arlington and can’t even play a 2 minute youtube video without a 10 minute delay. Not to mention all the times we lose signal entirely. And, yes canceling service is a pain in the butt — set aside a few hours of your life for this. Truly horrible horrible service in all respects. We just switched to Comcast and are so glad we did. Comcast may have bad service but at least the internet speed is decent!

Two words for you:
Stay Away.
Another two words:
Don’t do it.

I have had this dismal download speed for a week. I’ve given a call to Clear’s technical staff many time over the year or so I’ve had the service for my home network.
Here’s a run down of what you will experience with their technical «help»
They will run a diagnostic on your modem, get you to move the modem around for a better signal and power cycle the modem. In hopes a better connection will occur.
But here’s the skinny, the technical «help» will do nothing for your bandwidth. And the reason why is because Clear’s pipe is clogged with users — there is just not enough bandwidth to go around, especially at peak times (read anytime during the evening hours).
Don’t think streaming is going to work. Netflix is bubkis. buffering for 30 seconds then playing for 30 seconds. Even standard web pages crawl.
Clear’s service is not even worth it if it was free, in my book. Comcast is 100% better. Even Comcast’s customer service is better because well, the data pipe is just a ton better. I’ve had Comcast in the past and I wish I still did.
And for the record, I’m not one of those Unilocal users that just hate on bad service (or perceived bad service).
In the case of Clear, it’s clearly just bad. Stay clear of Clear and you will be happy for it.

Unless you like super slow internet connections and horrible customer service when you call, don’t subscribe to Clear.

Just got off my 10^th call with Clear customer support. Painfully slow internet speeds in my first apartment in Capitol Hill; moved a few blocks away and the internet service was non-​existant.
We cancelled and have been trying to fight the $ 80 «restocking fee» that they are charging us for canceling our service early – despite the fact that they acknowledge we weren’t receiving any service.
Terrible product and even worse customer service.

Atrociously slow. Dial-​up slow. Well, almost.
1.2MBps down, 400k up. No kidding.
Don’t do it.

Service is dreadfully slow in DC, and I live 5 blocks from the 4G tower! The

Although it is advertised as unlimited, it truly isn’t. After using 10 GB, your service will be throttled during peak times-​so they say-​but it’s actually throttled as soon as you approach 10 GB, or use more bandwidth than a «standard user» in a given day-​whatever that means!
Canceling an account and general customer service is handled by the lowest cost Indian call center, and is time consuming and extremely frustrating. Even after canceling an account, most people continue to be billed!
If you want some more evidence on why Clear isn’t worth your time, head over to Clear’s Facebook page and see just how many unhappy campers there are! And if you see a super positive review on their Facebook page, click that person’s profile and make sure it isn’t one of Clear’s fake profiles!

I signed up for Unilocal just so I could give Clear a one-​star rating. Terrible customer service plus slower than promised connection speeds.

Dreadful service — it would take me hours upon hours to buffer a digital movie for streaming. Tech support always tells you it’s your router, or you need to put the modem next to a window. I heard there’s a class action suit bc they were misleading people about having fixed their service problems and they really did nothing to fix. The moment I switched to Comcast I had no problems whatsoever.
Save yourself a lot of trouble and money, Clear is a lemon!

Worst internet service ever.
Did speed tests for months and speed would never creep above 0.5 mbps (when I was paying for 6mbps!)
Called CLEAR and they said that they «manage» the speed of heavy users. So basically, if you want to watch Hulu, listen to music, or even watch a video on youtube, you won’t be able to.
Having internet service with CLEAR was like time traveling back to 1999. Awful. Slow speeds and incompetent tech support.
Cancelling my service today. (Now to battle it out on the phone in order to get my CLEAR contract cancelled without charges…)

You will NOT be able to download any multimedia or watch videos without delays.
DO NOT USE CLEAR.

Clear has the most HORRIBLE internet services and the WORST customer service! I wouldn’t recommend it to ANYONE.
