I can only rate the China House lunches, which are above average for the neighborhood. The portions are generous, the sauces flavorful, and the spicy options have a kick. It’s reasonable, too, about $ 6 for a combo of fried rice, a main, and a drink. The place is well-lit and spacious, with tile floors, bench seating along the walls, and the usual panels of scarred bullet-resistant glass to put you at ease. Their Gen’l Tso’s special is typical of their offerings: good but eccentric. It comes in a big portion, with plenty of glossy, thick sauce mixed in with the chicken. They ask if you want it spicy when you order, which no one else around does, and it has a nice kick to it if you do. But the traditional broccoli and hot peppers that would complete the dish are absent. It’s partly made up for with the bits of bean sprout and onion in the fried rice, but this place really could be a contender with a tiny bit more effort. The special comes with a can of soda, which, unless you are explicit, defaults to whatever house brand flavor they have too much of that day. You don’t get a vote by default. Despite everything, this carry-out is still better than virtually all of its bretheren in the area. More so than the others, China House is not afraid of a little spice. As with most places, you have to ask for hot mustard and duck sauce if that’s your thing. Parking is easy on the block next door or the lot across the street.

They don’t have that $ 3.75 lunch special anymore, it’s now a whooping $ 4.99!!! I live off benning so when I’m not in the mood to wait 30 mins for H& pizza lat night munches I just stop in here. You can get 3 wings and an order of fried rice for $ 5 bucks! Downside is I guess they actually cook the food, so it takes like 10 – 15 minutes. but it’s totally worth it. drunk Chinese food = heaven in your mouth. Their fried rice is pretty plain, but seasoned well– has beansprouts in it, you can add shrimp for an extra $ 2. It comes with ample mambo sauce as well. Great for durnk food!

The best Chinese and American Carryout Food I’ve had in this area. If you’re heading to a Gangsta’s Paradise across town tonight think twice and don’t blink or you might miss this one. It’s right across from the old Hechinger Mall and from the outside doesn’t look as promising as the China Wok across the street, but trust me China House has got my American Chinese Soul Food down pat. I love how they have such sweet deals on large portions. You can get a lunch box of Bourbon Chicken or Teriaki Chicken with fried rice or french fries for $ 4.30. It’s always enough to fill me up, but if that isn’t enough for people who can SERIOUSLYEAT, they also have lunch combos for under $ 6 and plenty more $ 4.30 meat and rice/fries combos. China House carries snacks and beers as well. From Laffy Taffy, cigars, cigarettes, Bud Light, 20/20, Utz Chips, candy bars, to home made iced tea they’ve got it. Love Michelle the youngest daughter(most loveable little girl in the whole wide world), but watch out for Jia the elder daughter of the owner. She’s a feisty high schooler who doesn’t care if she comes across rude. The funky location and feisty girl gives my fave Chinese Carryout a 4 star rating. Yo’ homes you can pop em’ caps at me all ya want, but I’m goin’ cross town to get me some bad @$$ Chinese carryout food.
